A Casa de Estremoz
House

Rugs, white-and-blue houses, and a circular castle. That’s Arraiolos, a small Portuguese village famous for crafting national treasures. And yes, you can actually lay them on the floor! These handwoven carpets, adorned with floral and geometric patterns, have been part of local tradition since the 16th century. Head east, and you’ll find Estremoz. This white city is famous for its marble production, and its stone-paved streets have a unique charm. Take a stroll through the market square, then on Saturday visit the Antique Market at Rossio Square. In the meantime, treat yourself to some delicious local specialties.
Where will you stay? At A Casa de Estremoz. You’ll spot it by its four chimneys and white walls. This 1939 house, renovated by João and Maria, is inspired by their Alentejo holiday memories—sun, cork oak forests, vineyards, and olive groves. Sheep and goats roam freely, and you’re welcome to explore the property and pick fruit, herbs, and veggies when the cooking mood strikes. João has equipped the kitchen with everything you need for culinary fun. Outside, there’s a wood-burning Ofyr for unforgettable grills. With a pool and space for 10, it’s perfect for unwinding with friends or discovering the hidden gems of eastern Portugal.
