Adega do Fogo
Agrotourism

On Pico, everything moves at its own pace. The lava cools, the vines twist, and aguardente matures slowly, as if it were in no rush. Right here, in Cabrito, where the island’s strongest spirits once flowed, Adega do Fogo was born. Benedita Branco spotted the abandoned distillery, felt a spark of excitement, and instead of walking away – she bought it.
Today, it’s a luxurious house with six rooms, a pool, and a stunning view of the majestic Pico, but it still holds the soul of the old distillery. The ancient alembic stands proudly, and between November and February, you can watch (and taste!) the process of crafting aguardente. This potent local "fuel" has been distilled here for centuries – first, fermented fruits are placed in a large kettle over the fire, then their essence moves to a smaller alembic, and finally, it's cooled with sea water. The result? A drink enriched with local ingredients like bananas, pineapples, medronho berries, and sweet potatoes. It tastes 100% Pico – a fiery spirit that warms you better than any stove.
In summer, you can enjoy the ocean view, a glass of good wine, and even better company. Or settle into a cozy chair with a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice, and listen to the sound of the waves crashing against the black rocks of the coast.
