The Museum of Western Małopolska in Wygiełzów is located in the western part of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, in Chrzanów County. Why is it worth spending 2 interesting hours here? Because we have 5 hectares of picturesquely shaped area with as many as 27 historic wooden buildings. Here you will see both 19th-century residential and farm buildings from the areas once inhabited by Western Krakow, and even a 17th-century church moved from Ryczów and a wooden manor house from Droginia from the 18th century. The open-air museum buildings are dominated by the ruins of the medieval Lipowiec Castle, which initially served as a guard tower controlling the old trade route leading from Krakow to Silesia. The role of the castle changed over time. Initially, it was the summer residence of the Krakow bishops, then a gloomy prison for clergy and those convicted of offenses against church law.
Dogs are allowed, but please keep them on a leash.
