Gospoda Mały Holender w domu podcieniowym
Restaurant

The Mały Holender Inn is located in a historic, 300-year-old arcaded house in the heart of Żuławy. It is located approximately 30 km from Gdańsk and 20 km from Elbląg, on the road leading to Mierzeja. The history of our house began in 2003, when we bought it for the price of firewood and started moving it from Elbląg to the village of Żelichowo, in the bend of the Tuga River, next to the ruins of the rectory, in the vicinity of the medieval church of St. Nicholas. The house was reconstructed while maintaining the original layout of the rooms. It has the so-called great room, i.e. a representative room, a bedroom, a black kitchen, a servant's room (the host's office), a utility corridor and arcades - a granary and a kitchen. It was a guesthouse for five years, and in 2018 we opened an inn there. We took the name "Little Dutchman" from the inn that was established in our village in the Middle Ages. The house quickly became a meeting place for lovers of Żuławy, exchanging experiences and collecting culinary recipes. Here we recreated the recipe of the legendary Werderkäse cheese, forgotten for over 70 years. We also continue the tradition of eating Mennonite juniper, i.e. machandla, with the authorization of pre-war producers - the Stobbe family. When it comes to the regional cuisine of Żuławy, we are interested in characteristic and famous dishes from the times of the Teutonic Knights, Polish and Prussian rule, as well as from the recent times when our grandmothers and grandfathers settled after 1945. Therefore, our proposals include Königsberg meatballs, sturgeon meat, goose meat, crayfish, meatball soup from the Mennonite Andres family, settlement dumplings and potato cake, as well as our original inspirations from the region, such as the dessert of Żuławy railway workers or Podcieniowe beer. Our search for old recipes is still ongoing. We try to ensure that the Little Dutchman's menu takes into account new discoveries and the seasonality of rural life. We make sure that our dishes are prepared with ingredients from proven, local suppliers and, above all, full of the authentic taste of Żuławy cuisine. We invite both individual guests and tourist groups to an unforgettable feast. For those interested, we organize a tour of the house and the surrounding area, combined with a story about the history of Żuławy, its former inhabitants and their customs. We also organize unique special events and various types of workshops, not only on culinary topics. There is also a shop in the inn, where we have a selection of local specialties such as cheese, beer, honey, preserves, Żuławy publications and regional souvenirs. Our inn is open all year round from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., longer in the season, until 7 p.m. or 8 p.m.
