This is a home for lovers of secrets. For orphans after Mr Samochodzik and all those who will appreciate stories and legends. Stop here on the way to the coast, dig into the Vistula Delta delta, find us in the village of Marynowy. We promise you that you will come back home with a fascinating story.
In the middle of the village stands a house, which is a showcase of Żuławy. A beautiful, arcaded building from 1803 built by Peter Loewen for Johann Jacob Ziemer. After Ziemerow, the estate was owned by the Pohlmann family, Kling
and Mennonite families, Claassen and Brucks, who came to this land as settlers from the Netherlands. Over the years, the house passed from hand to hand, it survived war turmoil, marches of troops and visits of woodworms.
We will not say much more, we will leave for dessert, and there are many threads in this story that taste best long after dinner ... Welcome.
Zosia i Andrzej
The idea of making the house available to guests arose from suggestions and questions about the surrounding area about the possibility of accommodation. The building has always aroused curiosity and there is nothing strange in it. It is a typical arcaded house characteristic of the buildings of Żuławy at the beginning of the 19th century. Established in 1803, commissioned by the then owner of the estate, Johann Jacob Ziemer. Over the next decades, he passed from hand to hand until after the Second World War he came into the hands of my family. My grandfather was resettled from eastern Kresy, in 1947 he settled in Marynow. My dad was lucky to be brought up in this house and so finally I became the owner of the building together with a part of the habitat.
At the beginning I was not convinced about the idea of living in Żuławy and taking care of a 200-year-old home. We lived with my husband in Belgium and I really came back to take care of renewing my family heritage. I wanted to take... care of matters, renovations and have a 100% eye on what is happening with the house. We devoted parts of space to our own flat, and renovating our corners, we also renovated the rest of the house. This is how large rooms were created with a soul and volumes of history hidden in beams, walls and boards. We are pleased that the huge efforts of the whole family have not been in vain, and this historical monument can serve the next generations.more
3 comfortable rooms for a total of 12 people
arcaded house from 1802 with several volumes of history in the walls
20 year old pony in the garden and chickens behind the house
kitchen available for guests and local products under the nose
You will enter the framework of history through intricately carved doors. Outside, it's like 200 years ago with a professional, or checkered, half-timbered construction that adorns the forehead. 10 wooden columns with Ionic heads support the house, and the builder's inscriptions on the lintel and beams... have been memorized and are a beautiful sign of the times.
In the middle of the house, at number 19, a new chapter begins with you in the lead role. After "staircase" for generations, you will enter a space that favors relaxation and tranquility. From the windows you can admire the cultural landscape of the village, storks in the nest, our "wild mustang" and the pond. In 3 rooms we can cater for up to 12 people together with the kids.
2 rooms with bathrooms with shower, one with no bathroom, which is just in the corridor next door.
On the ground floor:
- a 4-person room with a bathroom, and in it two continental beds plus a 2-person sofa bed.
On the floor:
- 2 bed room without bathroom with two continental beds, extra bed,
- a large 5-person room with a bathroom, three continental beds plus a sofa bed for 2 people.
The house has a fully equipped guest kitchen. Each room has a TV, towels, and the bathrooms have hair dryers. WiFi will also be found.
Animals - yes, yes. Come and walk.
On the ground floor, in part with arcades, we organized a small "museum" of our house and its history. You will find there restored furniture from 1803, Żuławy chests, materials about Mennonites, Żuławy and nearby tourist attractions. We collect old objects, tools, everyday articles from old times. We have mysterious items that serve, for example, to sow flour, sausages, and laundry and ironing. These are things found in nearby farms, friends, friends or purchased at the flea markets. This part is also open to outside guests. You can come sit down to read, drink coffee, tea, eat a cake.more
What will I eat?
The common kitchen available to guests is totally free. You can cook, cut, stir, fry. You will buy ingredients and local products in our village. For eggs from Żuławy happy hens come to us - we have our own hens. Friends have honey and will be happy to share it. I bake bread myself, so you can order... fresh breakfast with crispy crust for breakfast.
If you want a breakfast with a nose delivery, let us know - we will conjure up fresh country delicacies.
The closest to good food we have to Nowy Dwór Gdański about 5 km. There to the Willa Joker restaurant. Nothing but 5 stars. Delicious food, served as in Masterchef, and the taste like the Michelin guide. It is diverse and very tasty.
A tasty fish jumping 18 km to Stegna, and a tasty slice of bread with lard at the Teutonic Castle in Malbork.
12 km from us in Żelichów you will find the Mały Holender restaurant. This is an arcade house from the 18th century where you can buy and taste regional cheeses, eat well and breathe in history. Żuławy cheese, among others the legendary Werderkäse, Szeneker with a mild, slightly nutty flavor and other delicacies from the Skarszewy Mleczarnia, meatball soup, Mennonite kettle, desserts, Żuławy lager with sweet flag, beer from Browar Gościszewo, nettle soup served with toast and sour cream or chicken farm roasted in flavored butter Lilac flower, served with dumplings with young chives. You will not die here for sure.more
How will I be entertained?
Marinowy is a beautiful village, in which there are lots of monuments, so boredom is not an option. To top it all, several ponds, stork nests, Mennonite stories, local legends, evangelical cemeteries, arcaded houses and the Polish sea in close proximity.
In the village, apart from ours, there are also... four other arcaded houses. One built by Hermann Hekker in 1804, second, older, from 1773, but thoroughly rebuilt in 1939. The other two houses, unfortunately, have lost the arcade. Be sure to get to know their history, look through the windows of history and learn about the unique architecture of Żuławy.
A stroll around Marynow is the first thing you should do after arriving. And in the village a church from the fourteenth century. The temple is attracted by a wooden, painted, flat ceiling, as well as carved benches, doors from the beginning of the 16th century and organs. On the tiny church one can find Mennonite tomb monuments. We will also direct you to the forgotten, overgrown Evangelical cemetery - in this place once stood a half-timbered church, about which the world forgot.
Meet the Żuławy with the Mennonite trail, who came to the Vistula Delta a long time ago. They were settlers from the Netherlands, who escaped repression in their country, and Poland as an open and tolerant country offered them a scrap of land just in Żuławy. They built channels, embankments and embankments that protected the fields against flooding. Żuławy flourished literally and figuratively. Then the story showed a claw in the form of partitions of Poland, wars, and after the Second World War, the Mennonite minority had to flee from these areas. In its place, displaced people from Wołyń, Wileńszczyzna and southern regions of Poland were brought.
Churches are not usually at the top of the list of places to visit, but those in Żuławy simply have to be seen. In addition to those in Marynowach, it is worth visiting the church in the village of Wróblewo. Here, on the Motława River, among lush trees, there is a picturesquely situated temple from the 16th century. Once you could come to him by boat and moor at the nearby pier. A magical place that many tourists do not know about.
Hand-painted white and blue tiles were a characteristic feature of Żuławy houses. In Manufaktura, Hersztek in Nowa Kościelnica is a real wonder, these hand-made tiles with windmills and patterns taken from the Netherlands can decorate your interiors. A mandatory point on the travel map.
What else is worth seeing?
- Ruins of the lock in Marzęcin.
- The mouth of the Vistula between Mikoszew and Świbne.
- Skarpa - a cliff shore on the Vistula Lagoon.
- Cormorant Reserve - one of the largest breeding colonies in Europe, and at the same time located not far from the road leading to the beach, it is several hundred meters from the sea.more
What's for children?
We have a 5-year-old sweety, so toys and company are here. Bike, scooter, rollers and a lot of place for fikołków. For the summer, we plan to develop a garden with a sandpit and a small monkey grove. In front of the house you can meet our 20-year-old pony, which has already passed the years of riding.... When retired, he became a wild mustang and likes to be admired from afar. A morning walk in search of chicken eggs can be a success, then a pond, a bicycle on a meadow and our home museum.
We will not talk about beaches because they are all around. Like the forests, the waters of the Vistula Lagoon, coastal air and waffles in tourist resorts. Take your kids to the narrow-gauge railway. The transport is carried out by the Pomeranian Society of Iron Railway Enthusiasts, and the route leads through Sztutowo, Stegna, and Jantar to Mikoszew. The railway runs in season and on special occasions - for example on a long weekend. Attraction as if for children, but it should be fun for many parentmore
