So Krakonoš lived in our Hájenka, dear children. In the summer he rested here and went on trips, in the winter he built snowmen, bobsledded and looked stern as he walked around his Krkonoše estate. All the rooms in Hájenka smell of wood , as Krakonoš likes it, and we left the old stove with which he flooded. The wood cracks, creaks, lives… and accompanies this symphony with magnificent views of the mountain scenery . We have 10 beds in Hájenka, so follow us (and Krakonoš) on a family vacation or a discovery trip with friends.
Harrachov is today called a derogatory nickname tourist center, but there is so much unprecedented beauty and history that is worth discovering. The village has been called Harrachov since the 18th century after the Harrach family . Their emblem - three peacock feathers tucked in a golden ball - can still be seen, for example, above the portal of the neo-Gothic Chapel of St. Elizabeth, which is located in the part of Harrachov called the New World. You can follow in the footsteps of the glassmaking tradition and see under the hands of experienced craftsmen in a 123-year-old grinding workshop. And who has never ridden on Zubačka , as if he had never actually been in the Giant Mountains. The steepest track in the Czech Republic will offer passengers fantastic views and railway lovers a bit of inner satisfaction.
For your comfort and a sweet night's sleep, there are 3 separate bedrooms in Hájenka, made of wood. Each has a fragrant double bed , complete with 1-2 comfortable single beds . Most of the furniture is original to preserve the atmosphere of the chalet. But some pieces are replicas, because comfort is sometimes just more than atmosphere. And if you ask, we will be happy to tell you in which of the beds Krakonoš himself dozed off!
The windows offer mountain or garden views and pleasant mountain air behind them. In order to let him into the cottage in summer and winter, the rooms are equipped with central heating . You can also flood the living room with original stones . The wood is prepared in a woodshed by the cottage and you can get pleasantly tired in the evening by chopping it.
The bathroom and toilets have been renovated and you can comfortably fit in them even if the cottage is fully occupied by 10 people.
The kitchen on the ground floor of Hájenka is fully equipped and the original sideboard, which takes you back to your grandmother's time in the countryside, contains all the tools, utensils and cutlery you could need. For comfortable cooking, however, only one person can fit in it - a maximum of two. So we recommend to use the hospitality of the Krkonoše natives and go around the area for a good sour, sorghum, mushroom, dill, cabbages, breadcrumbs or kumoch.
Wake up to a fresh coffee on a day full of mountains. A modern coffee machine is available in the kitchen, and even in winter we must say that the coffee tastes best outside, complemented by a view of the snow-capped peaks. Whoever gets up first can surprise the others with fresh pastries, which will be baked for you in the newly opened bakery in the Karolína hotel. You are there by bike in 3 minutes.
Especially in summer you will use the common sitting and garden . There is a fireplace and a functional grill waiting for you, so you can enjoy mild evenings with the smell of roasted meat. Children's eyes light up a little like a burrow pierced on a stick
Let's start with the worst possible variant: If it happened to be such weather that even Krakonoš would not want to go out. For such cases, there is a pleasant sitting in the cottage, where you can flood in the stove and drink and sit together. We recommend that you bring cards or board games for these cases. Or run a movie marathon. The living room has a flat TV screen with DVD player .
Otherwise, you will definitely enjoy skiing in the winter. It will suit you especially that the lift is literally away from the cottage, which would throw a snowball, and even the cross-country trail can be jumped directly behind Hájenka. In the summer, have a good snack, put on your hiking boots or jump in the saddle of your bike and set out to explore places that tourists don't even have a pair about.
The Black Pond , reflecting the surrounding trees on its surface, is a wonderful place to meditate. For many years, local glassmakers have been used to soak wood for molds in which glass is then blown. That is why it is sometimes called Huťský rybník. If you are interested in details, ask the locals at the nearby glassworks. Maybe the ghosts in the forgotten glass settlement of Orle , founded by the Preussler family in 1754, will tell you this. But you can always have fun with someone more lively in the Museum of Glass , which is less than a kilometer from Hájenka.
If you like mysterious stories, visit The Rosary Garden . Boulders arranged in the shape of rose petals are actually such a Stonehenge in the Krkonoše Mountains. In addition, you will find a signpost that will show you the way to Dvoračky, Vrbatova bouda, Labská bouda or Pramen Labe.
If you like the Czech "best", you will have three here. The highest mountain is clear, but what about the largest underground lake? It is located in the beautiful Bozkov Dolomite Caves (which are also the longest in our country). Let yourself be drawn into the beautiful Midnight Cave and see the place where the Petrified Eagle is hiding.
One kilometer from Labská bouda there is also the largest and highest waterfall in the Czech Republic . In the Pančavský waterfall, water flows over a steep slope to the bottom of the Elbe mine. The view is beautiful. And the nearby Ambrožova vyhlídka , that you can see the Labský důl, Kozí hřbety, Kotel and Lysá hora, is definitely worth a stop.
What’s there for children?
You don't have to worry about children with us. You just go crazy . You can sled and bob sled right next to the cottage, and the best thing to do is announce a competition for the best snowman.
In summer, take a walk to the Mumlavské waterfalls , sit together and rub your feet in the icy water. In the Mumlavská bouda, which was built by Count Harrach himself in 1879, reward yourself with a trip with hot chocolate and beer and hope that they will have the famous blueberry pie or pancakes on offer.
In the nearby Ranch pod Štěpánkou, children can admire sleepy horses, but also many other animals , such as Cameroon goats. Under the supervision of an instructor, you can improve your horse riding in the riding hall. If you have already left something, go on a trip to nature yourself. From the horse's back, the Giant Mountains are even more breathtaking.
Lovers of railways (and here we are not necessarily just talking about children) can not miss a ride through Zubačka. The steepest railway lines in the Czech Republic . (And another "best"!). The line from Tanvald to Harrachov, called the "Root Zubačka" will take you through 5 tunnels, the longest of which is 940 m long. And a museum is open in Kořenov for true connoisseurs.
And if the children find Zubačka slow, let them onto the bobsleigh track , which can be reached in 10 minutes from our Hájenka. The area also includes the Monkey Park rope center .
