Once an olive farm, then the sanctuary of a great pianist who drew inspiration here, and now it is our home, rustic and totally authentic. Located by the national park, on a ridge, from where the view is breathtaking. The uninterrupted panorama of the Mediterranean Sea, the Tajeda Mountains, olive orchards and avocado plantations spreads before your eyes. Over the years, El Jardin has grown in splendour. We restored it with love for the history and style of the region, using stone, warm terracotta and old wood. Thick walls and hand-painted tiles are the quintessence of local Mudejar architecture. The house hides many beautiful corners. A library with an interesting collection of books, a music room with a high ceiling for good acoustics, a wonderful panorama outside the window and a piano that remembers the pianist owner. Three separate apartments for 3 families or one large team. And our favorite place: Cordoba Patio, where, among exotic plants and the sound of water, sipping Rioja, you will discover the essence of Spain. Traveling, we have always been drawn to side paths, lost settlements and olive groves, far from the hustle and bustle of cities. We peeked through the walls and fences to swallow a bit of truth, the soul. Today we do not remember numerous dinners in restaurants, but the taste of pomegranate, which we ate with my grandmother in a black dress, on her porch, will stay with us forever. El Jardin is what we've been chasing all our lives. We no longer have to timidly peek through the shutters, we have everything that restless senses were looking for. If you want to taste oranges from our orchard, lemons straight from the tree, munch almonds in the shade of a ficus, lie half a day by the pool, listen to Spanish classics on black vinyl, we invite you. If you want to prepare Paella, pickle olives and taste Sangirije, come by. If you want to feel the warmth of the Andalusian sun, take a siesta on the terrace that smells of terracotta and herbs, pack your bags.

'Unique' sums up this home. Set in an area which is famous for its beautiful villas. 'El Jardin' is a rare treasure. Rustic and completely authentic, it has one of the finest locations in Andalucia. The house was originally a traditional farmhouse rediscovered by a great musician and you can see why she chose this enclave to be her sanctuary. The first thing that strikes you is the magnificent location, south facing, perched on the top of a hill. Splendid panorama of Mediterranean Sea spreads out in front of your eyes. Majestic mountains of Sierra de Tajeda Natural Park set breath taking scenery. Surrounding hills, wide spread valleys filled with farms and orchards entwine all around you. It's absolutely wonderful. From the moment you walk through the front door you realise this is so much more than a regular holiday home. Bright colours, vibrant art and joyfull Spanish feel contrast with solid wood and warm terracota. The colour scheme of warm oranges, earthy reds and emerald greens fill open spaces. Sizable windows make the living areas of this spacious property bright you could ever wish for. It is an autentic Andalusian house that is not posh and doesn't try to be, it is compellingly unique. Tranquil library in the center of the house is a perfect spot to calm your body and emotions. It offers a retreat after an intense day. In a spacious music room you will find musical instruments and a collection of vinyl and CD records to play to your tastes. Cordoba style patio with its charm and romantic ambiance is popular escape from a full summer sun. Shaded and airy with lush greenery it stays fresh even in the hottest days. The swimming pool is set on elevated patio area, from where in every direction, the views are superb. There are three appartments in this house, each of them independently accessable. Each one can be made completely private or joined with one or two of the others to accommodate larger groups. We named the apartments after the most beautiful gardens in Andalusia - EL PATIO (Cordoba Gardens), EL REAL ALCAZAR (Seville Gardens), AL ALHAMBRA (Granada Gardens). 1. EL PATIO An ideal place for 2/4 adults, couples, friends and families with children. As its name implies, one of the delightful features of this ground floor apartment is its private Cordoba style patio. This beautifull place has a feel of a romantic and personal dinning area and it is carefully overplanted with exotic plants. It has its own small kitchen sufficiently equipped to cater for family needs. The hub of 'El Patio' appartment is a grand living room, which also functions as a music room. With high celing for great acoustics, music living room is purpose built to accommodate family entertainment. It offers panoramic views that extend over the surrounding hills and valleys to distant farms and avocado orchards. This living room with its sofa bed could be used as an addtional sleeping area or as a venue for medium sized groups of guests. The master double bedroom in 'El Patio' is very spacious with antique woodburner and special sleeping area for children. To sum up, 'El Patio' contains a double sofabed in the music room, its own bathroom and kittchen, master double bedroom with extra sleeping space for kids, common gardens and common pool. The pool area is accessible from Music Room, situated in the center of the garden, seen from most of the windows. Shared with the other guests, it's inviting and large enough for all. Sunloungers and sun shades are set around the pool terrace and the southerly views are fabulous. 2. EL REAL ALCAZAR 2/4 adults or a family with children will live here comfortably. 'El Real Alcazar' is probably the most conveniante of all the apartments we are offering. It is located in the oldest part of the house. Its thick walls provide first class insulation, keeping the house cool and calm in summer and warm and cosy later in the year. Entrance to this apartment is closest to the parking. Access is via eleveted front garden and a porch. This is the main entrance to 'El Jardin' house with an outdoor sitting area surrounded by a Medditerean garden. The main door leads straight to the hart of 'El Real Alcazar' - a spacious living room. The living room opens to kitchen, bedroom, terrace and library. The living room is furnished with antique cabinets, dining table that can seat four people, armchairs and an open fire place. A colorfull and inviting traditional country kitchen with brick arches and hand crafted doors complete genuine Andalusian ambiance. From this vibrant space you enter a terrace where incredible panoramic views over Mediterian Sea will keep you happy and smilling with every meal. The terrace is fitted with a table for six and an outdoor BBQ. The main double bedroom has en suite bathroom. The bathroom has a full-size bath tub with shower over. In the living room there is a sofabed, an additional sleeping area can be compromised in conjoined Library Room which has a second sofa bed. 3. AL ALHAMBRA Perfect place for 1/2 adults or a couple. A first floor studio appartment is accessed by a beautiful Moorish style staircase. It is always popular retreat for couples. Uniquly shaped and beautifly decorated bedroom echoes colour scheme and architecture of famous Alhambra Palace. Happy torquise, pistachio green and warm orange, Arabic arches and star shaped tiles create unforgetable Moorish ambiance. An amazing Andalusian bathroom, with walk in shower, is kept is same style. For winter months the appartment is equiped with a woodburner stove. What differentiate 'Al Alhambra' from the rest of the house is a multi leveled terrace, almost as big as the whole house itself. It offers 360 degrees views over the sea, coastline, mountains, white Frigiliana village, orchards and gardens. A truly unbeatable, breath taking view - you will not find a better one. In this most remote place of the house it is easy to de-stress, relax and get your body in tune with your mind as if in the best yoga retreat. For al fresco cooking and eating there is a compact, outdoor kitchen and dining area. Sipping Sangria with tapas is the quintessential joy of eating out. Life doesn't get much better. At night a million stars shine like diamonds on a pollution free sky. It's a brilliant spectacle, a show which has to be seen to be believed. Once seen, never forgotten. This apartment is not suitable for children.

What will I eat?

Go to photo editor Photo edit

Andalusian cuisine is light and healthy. Largely based on seafood, fish, vegetables and exotic fruit. Rabbit and poultry of all meat are most widely available and eaten here. We share Spanish love for their famous northern red wines and lighter Andalusian whites. Our favourite local meals that we never get tired are: la plancha grill, Paela and Gambas 'Piri-Piri'. If you want to taste citrus or exotic fruit from our orchard, nibble on almonds in the shade of the ficus tree, make a Paela or to pickle olives - you have come to the right place. El Jardin is situated between olive, mango and avocado plantations, there will never be a shortage of these fruit on your plate. We eat on charming terraces where every meal is an unforgettable experiance, in the garden surrounded by fragrant flowers or on a shaded patio when the sun is in zenith. We drink Spanish cafe con leche, and go to the coast for an ice cream. Each apartment has its own well equipped kitchen, so you can cook in your private. In El Patio there is a functional kitchen with a dining area on the patio. At El Real Alcazar there is a traditional Spanish kitchen. In Al Alhambra there is a huge multi level terrace with an open air summer kitchen and dining space, designed only for you.

What’s there for children?

Go to photo editor Photo edit

We are the parents of an 10-year-old Teo. He has been diving on Spanish beaches since he started walking. We have dozens of ways to make him forget about his tablet. It's not too hard in Spain! Beautiful weather is perfect for family trips and games in the garden. In a shadow of a giant ficus, kids can play here with water and sand all day long, they collect sticks and crystals, climb Olive trees and paint with chalk. There in the music living room there are instruments for the little ones. Castanets, accordion, cymbals, tambourine, drums and ukulele. The Library has a collection of books for children in various languages, you will find here board games, puzzles, toys, Lego bricks and crayons. It all belongs to Teo, who is willing to share it. There are beach toys, swimming boards and balls for you. Children's favorite spot is the swimming pool! The swimming pool is open to guests from April to October. In cooler periods, the pool is covered. The pool is not fenced, therefore children may never be left unattended near the pool.

There is no wi-fi at home, we use (for work, movies or "zoom school") a local sim card with internet, if you need access to the network, take your laptop and let me know in advance, everything will be ready for your arrival. It's not some super fast mega internet, but it's enough for Netflix, Zoom or my Teo's games. You'll get your own card. Free internet is available throughout Frigiliana, in squares, main streets, at playgrounds, at the church. Frigiliana has been covered by the European Program: Free Wi-Fi (password available at the Tourist Information in Frigiliana).

How do I get there?

Icon Car

Our address: La Palmera 136, Torrox, Andalusia, Spain

You have to have a car to reach us. El Jardin is situated between two white villages, Frigiliana and Torrox. We are in Campo - that means in the countryside with well spaced neighboring houses. There is good privacy here, but not seclusion. Driving from Malaga airport, about an hour on the highway, you will reach the beautiful white village of Frigiliana. There is a local road from here that meanders among villas and orchards. On the way breath taking landscape impresses. After 14 minutes of stunning views and undoubtedly a few photos taken, you will reach a rather narrow gravel road. From here, 3 minutes down the road, you pass a few bends and a few houses and you are on the crest of the ridge beneath El Jardin. Any car driven by an experienced driver will reach us. On the last 3 minutes the road is narrow and you have to bear in mind that other drivers may come from the opposite direction.

El Jardin is an old historic house, if it is looked after it will pay you back with a wonderful vacation. Water in the Spanish countryside is relatively cheap, but limited. The water tanks are refilled once a week. Together we try to respect water. If we use up specified water limit, we may end up left without it. The garden and the pool are supervised by the gardener Mr. Rafael, he is an elderly man and if he is unable to help us due to the heat, we will water the garden together and take the leaves out of the pool with a net on a stick. Unfortunately, the garbage truck does not come to the Spanish campo, so every morning, when going to the beach, for a trip or for shopping, please take your segregated rubbish and throw it into the municipal garbage cans. They are located on the main road. If you forget about it, when you return your kitchen will turn into a zoo, there will be ants and other bugs. Bonfires and garden grilling are strictly forbidden in summer. If you smoke, all butts must end their lives in a jar of water. Andalusia is struggling with extreme drought and wild fires are a big threat here. We respect the curfew and the siesta time. In the common areas, i.e. in the garden, library and pool area, we show respect for other guests. So we do not swear, we do not make noise above the norm. We help each other in case of trouble. Rules by the pool: El Jardin is our family home, not a hotel. There are rules like in any Spanish house with a swimming pool. When using the swimming pool, please remember that glassware, such as glasses or plates, is absolutely not allowed at the swimming pool. Each kitchen has plastic cutlery, plates and cups for use by the pool. In case someone accidentally breaks the glass by the water, it is necessary to close the pool and filter all the water, it will take several days. There is a shower by the pool, we rinse ourselves and the children each time we enter the water. Young children must wear a pool nappy. Together, we take care of it and keep good order at the pool, we do not leave wet towels, sunbeds and clothes anywhere, we clean up children's toys and snack plates. Everyone knows, of course, that we do not sunbathe and bathe topless or naked in front of other guests, including children. We never leave children unattended near the swimming pool. Thank you for respecting our rules and for your understanding. We wish you a pleasant stay.

Trudno znaleść słowa opisujące to miejsce - po prostu trzeba przyjechać. 1. Piękny andaluzyjski dom już od progu przenosi Ciebie do Hiszpanii. Cudne widoki z domu na Morze i góry. 2. Właściciele nie tylko mili i pomocni. Zawsze znajdą czas na kawę z Tobą. Zanim wyjedźcie podpytajcie Age o wycieczki, jakie dla Was może zorganizować jako przewodnik - my polecamy kąpiel w wodospadach Rio verde. 3. Okolica mniej zatłoczona - plaże czy miasteczka. Dobra baza wypadowa do środkowej Andaluzji. Nad ocena to już 3-4h. 4. Świetnie wyposażona kuchnia. 5. U mnie nie było to minusem, ale do 20 min nic nie ma sklepu czy restauracji. Widoki z tarasu Wam to wynagrodzą.

Aby poznać Agnieszkę, Olgierda i Teo trzeba tam przyjechać.
