Gentle hills, original villages, old trees and many castles and manor houses - Mecklenburg Switzerland invites you to take a deep breath. Pohnstorf is right in the heart of this picturesque region. The manor house is also surrounded by forests and meadows that are ideal for excursions. It is a vast landscape with an endless view to the horizon. An environment for nature and animal lovers, but also a painter of the 19th century would feel very comfortable here and be able to work in the open air.
Our historic and listed building is in this picturesque setting. Outwardly it is reminiscent of the 16th century, but has remained young at heart. Also thanks to some subtle technical innovations such as WiFi, electric bikes or charging stations for electric cars.
We host families, sometimes yoga groups, but sometimes entire company teams who come to work. Our house offers them all a lot of time and space for shared experiences and memories. You can fish with the family in the house pond and meet animals, with colleagues you hold company events in the hall of the manor house or cook together with regional products in the manor kitchen, you can focus on yourself and do sports in the area. Or you can celebrate the most beautiful day of your life with us with a festive wedding.
Good for sleeping - our house offers six suites and one double room, all of which are named after women who shaped society in the 19th century (when the house was built). You can choose to stay with the writer Malwida von Meysenbug, toy manufacturer Margarete Steiff, physicist and chemist Marie Curie, women's rights activist Bertha Pappenheim, writer and women's rights activist Hedwig Dohm, pianist and composer Clara Schumann, or writer and women's rights activist Louise Otto-Peters.
MALWIDA is a bright and sunny suite on the “Beletage”, 130 square meters in size and stately. It consists of three rooms of approx. 30 square meters, which are connected by double doors. There is a fireplace in the living room. The kitchen is centrally located with a dining table, gas stove and a kitchenette with a dishwasher. The manor garden can be reached directly via a terrace.
MARGARETE is like your own little house: The suite is an independent living unit in the extension of the manor house, which was built later, with its own entrance. It extends to about 130 square meters over two floors and has four rooms. The kitchen is equipped with a dining table, kitchenette, gas stove and dishwasher. The bathroom in the basement has a large bathtub. There is a fireplace in the living room and the manor garden can be reached directly via the balcony stairs.
MARIE is located on the first floor at the north-east gable of the manor house and has a large roof terrace. The 90 square meter suite consists of a large living area with open half-timbered elements. Adjacent to this is a semi-open kitchen with a kitchenette, dishwasher and kitchen table. The 100 square meter roof terrace with dining area, deck chairs and wooden floor is accessible from the living room and bedroom. The bedroom with a double bed leads to a smaller bedroom with two single beds.
BERTHA is located on the first floor of the manor house. The 90 square meter suite is sunny and offers a view of the landscape all the way to Lake Teterower. The large room with open half-timbered elements is divided into kitchen, dining room, living room and bedroom. The loft area can be reached via a small hallway from which another bedroom (with a plateau for children to play) and a large bathroom with bathtub and shower lead off.
HEDWIG is the 85 square meter suite and is located on the first floor in the middle projection of the manor house. From here, three large windows offer a wide view of the landscape, even with sunsets in summer. The two bedrooms, each with two beds, lead off from the large living area with parquet floor and kitchen unit with dishwasher. The bathroom is accessible from the double bedroom.
LOUISE, the 30 square meter double room is located on the garden side of the central risalite, is sunny and offers a view of the garden. The landlady's original room has a parquet floor and a small kitchenette, from which a bathroom with shower leads off.
CLARA is 60 square meters and is located right at the top of the central projection of the house. The visible, whitewashed roof beams, many large skylights and six round windows at ground level on the gable sides offer a loft-like ambience. You can watch the starry sky through the skylights. All skylights can also be darkened. The loft has a kitchenette with a stove and dishwasher and a small bathroom with a hip bathtub.
The entrée, the hall and the blue salon of the manor house are available to each room for shared use. The manor garden with its shady dining areas, sun loungers and the boules alley can also be used. We are happy to provide you with a grill free of charge.
Good for hunger - With us you can start the day with breakfast with products from our garden or the area. Especially with vegetables, eggs and meat we make sure that the ingredients are mostly regional. With eggs, this even goes so far that you can personally thank the chickens that live down the street for the breakfast egg in the morning. We are happy to prepare a breakfast buffet for guests in the manor house kitchen, and then the meal is often taken in the Blue Salon. And there are enough chairs and tables in the garden for a breakfast in the green.
Or would you rather have someone cook for you? Then you can feast on the culinary offerings in the area. We are happy to give you tips from us and our guests. We also organize catering for parties or ensure that a slump or a rumbling stomach does not hamper creativity during a workshop.
What’s there for children?
The 10,000 m² estate garden is a perfect outdoor playground. In summer, children can climb trees there, swing, balance on the balance board or slackline, play ball or just run around. For refreshment, everyone jump into the small swimming lake, which is right next to the property. In autumn there are leaf battles or wheelbarrow races. In winter, snowmen are built and sledges are used.
A cat and several cute French Quessant sheep, the smallest breed in Europe, live on the estate.
Pohnstorf also has alpacas, horses, chickens and geese. With the alpacas there is even the possibility of going on a hike. Children can discover even more animals in the Lelkendorf Pet Park. The place can be reached in just 10 minutes by car or as an excursion by bike. Bicycles, e-bikes, customer bikes and bike trailers can be borrowed.
In the evening you can watch the stars, because constellations are clearly visible. The Milky Way is more clearly visible than anywhere else in Germany. Due to its low light pollution, Pohnstorf is one of the darkest places in the interior.
Gut Pohnstorf is for children like Villa Kunterbunt. They paint together in the entrance hall, play hide and seek in the large rooms of the manor house or disappear into the undergrowth and often only come back when they get hungry.
