When engineer Vilibald Lang built the Vratimov water tower in 1931, he had no idea what a jewel it would become 90 years later. The original design of a three-story apartment with a breathtaking atmosphere has been modernly equipped and colorfully decorated. However, the technical details still remind us of the original purpose of the tower, i.e. to supply the city with drinking water.
Before entering the tower, you will be greeted by the "Mischievous" woman, carved by the phenomenal Czech artist Josef Nálepa. Apparently, he is the only person in the world whom Salvador Dalí allowed to create his likeness. Behind the entrance door you will be surprised by the unusual acoustics and the first, slightly industrial impression: reinforced concrete stairs, at the end of which there is a rasterized ceiling and a hatch to the tank. It will open automatically, thus creating a gate to a completely different world. Original valves, parts of a cast-iron pipe or a float cutting off the water supply to the reinforced concrete tank will take you back to the past. But the cozy and original interiors will allow you to relax in a completely unique film atmosphere.
The creative reconstruction of the inner part of the water tower pays tribute to its technical past. When you go up the reinforced concrete staircase to the living area, which was originally a water reservoir, you will see a successful combination of modern equipment with authentic elements.
The original pipes weave through all 3 floors, furnished for your unforgettable stay, which outline the idea of what was the initial fate of the Vratimo reservoir. You will also find countless books and information on the given topic.
SECOND FLOOR
The middle floor in the tambour of the tower is used for sleeping and resting. It has a double bed and a sofa bed. The industrial elements are lightened by a glass floor that gives you a glimpse into the social space.
The second floor also includes a stylish bathroom with a bathtub and a sink. The white ceramic mosaic radiates purity and reflects the nearly century-old history of the water tower. The inner wall of the reservoir was covered with these tiles in 1931. The spectacular circular entrance to the bathroom can be covered with a curtain for greater privacy.
THIRD FLOOR
On the third floor, there is a minimalist double bed (a comfortable wide mattress on the floor) and two identical single beds. The inner circular space is dominated by an unconventional shower with a glass floor that offers a view of the tower below. We guarantee you won't see anything like it anywhere else.
The part intended for rest is optically separated by a stylish textile curtain. There are also two sitting areas where you can enjoy a private moment with a book or games with the children. In addition to the shower, there is also a separate toilet and urinal, which do not offer views in or out, don't worry.
Hot air accumulates on the upper floor. Therefore, we recommend not to overheat in winter. In the steamy summer months, the newly installed air conditioning will help you from the heat.
Whether you want to have a picnic on the grass under the tower, sit on the walkway, or hide in the cozy circular room, it's guaranteed to be an experience.
FIRST FLOOR
The entire first floor is a circular room with a wooden floor, an oak desk, a bookcase, a cast iron stove and a cozy sitting area. There is also an equipped kitchen and a minibar. A two-burner stove and a microwave oven are intended for basic cooking, and of course all the necessary dishes and cutlery are provided. Since breakfast is the most important meal on vacation, you also have a toaster and a modern capsule coffee machine at your disposal. You can use wine glasses especially when sitting by the stove in the evening or with romantic views from the balcony.
In good weather, our grill is also available on the walkway. You can find fresh game within walking distance, so we promise not only an unusual environment, but also tastes.
When the wanderlust strikes you, head out to see the wooden church of St. Michael the Archangel in Řepiště. During the two-hour walk, you can also explore the remains of the castle Zaryje and Zapadlisko.
Vratimov itself in the Ostrava Basin does not offer many architectural gems, but you can find picturesque corners in the vicinity of the Ostravice River. But you will have to travel either by car or by bike for beautiful trips. There is a bike and scooter rental right in Vratimov on the cycle path, so you don't have to struggle with your own sports equipment - if you're interested, we'll prepare it for you right in the tower. Maybe this is a good opportunity to rent and try out a tandem bike, what do you think?
The Olešná reservoir, for example, is worth a trip. A quiet cycle path, also intended for skaters, leads around the impressive body of water. In summer, you can enjoy swimming, windsurfing and relaxing on the grassy beach. For the brave, there is also a nudist beach here. You will relax while looking at the picturesque Palkovické Hűrky and, in good weather, you will also see the Beskydy Mountains.
Whoever comes to our tower will not miss a visit to the Lower Vítkovice area, which is a UNESCO monument and is the place where the spectacular Colors of Ostrava music festival takes place every year. In this destination, you cannot miss the Bolt Tower, from which you can see back to the Art Tower. You can see both towers from the vantage point of the Ostrava Town Hall.
Take a romantic walk to the arboretum in Frýdek-Místek. Blooming azaleas and rhododendrons will soften even hardened opponents of romance, and evening sitting on the promenade with a glass of wine will be all the more intense.
And if you come with friends and want to enjoy an exuberant party with everything, then know that the legendary Stodolní street is located only a quarter of an hour away from us. The only question then is who will drive back...
What’s there for children?
Children can run around the water tower to their heart's content. Board games and television are available for them inside. We are also happy to lend you badminton equipment, pétanque and balls.
If the children don't do otherwise, you can spend hot days at the local swimming pool or go together to the nearby water park. There are also wonderful bicycle tours in the area, which children can easily ride.
You can devote one whole afternoon to visiting the Chotěbuz archeopark, and another to visiting the open-air museum in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm. Animal lovers can visit the Lašský Dvůr minizoo or the Ostrava Zoo.
