Good morning from Southern Podlasie, and more specifically from Siedlce, located between Muchówka, Liwiec, Bug and Helenka. More specifically, from the riverside garden at Stary Młyn. We are sheltered from the rest of the world by a hedge of old willows (we have at least six kinds of them!), The smell of lilacs and herbs is everywhere, and in the evenings, beavers come to the mill. We have been saying for years that it is so idyllic here that the pressure drops on its own.
Żeromski described our mill on the front pages of Przedwiośnia (he even lived here for a while), the November insurgents were stationed here and we know that the mill even remembers August III. Sometimes TV, musicians or other artists want to visit the garden, but we still appreciate the local silence, space, the possibility of unhurriedly fishing and collecting shells of river mussels. We invite you to our country house and garden, which we are proud of.
In our Stary Młyn we can comfortably fit up to 12 people. We will prepare 4 bedrooms for you, clean 3 living rooms, a kitchen and two bathrooms. We already know that: "you will be satisfied".
We have 9 beds for you (including 3 double), 11 places in the bedrooms and one in the living room on the first floor. Two extra beds are exceptionally possible. There is a double bed in the first bedroom, three single beds in the second, a double and one single bed in the third, and two single beds in the fourth. In addition, you can still sleep on the couch in the living room.
We also have two bathrooms (we don't like morning queues to the toilet!) Including one bathing room where bathing and relaxing are synonymous. In the evenings, we recommend heating sessions by the fireplace or film sessions (we have a screen and projector). We have designated a special place for shisha lovers to smoke.
A large terrace adjoins the mill, which hangs over the river at its end. We've cleverly fenced one of the lawns so it's safe for small children - there's a shaded corner that smells of lilacs and herbs with willows and a sandbox. In the garden there are hammocks, places with benches, a riverside bridge, a wooden pier along the river, a gazebo with sofas and a gas grill. If you have sensitive ears, then in June you have to get ready for frog concerts coming from the pond. Usually we do not have mosquitoes (despite the proximity of the river and pond), but take anti-mosquitoes with you just in case. In the morning you can hear cars passing by - otherwise there is silence.
The apple of our eye is the garden, which begins to bloom in May. Over 100 species of plants are planted in the garden and in the meadow. It is a naturalistic garden - strongly connected with the river and the surrounding meadows. The most important element of nature in this place are different types of willows: purple, creeping, brittle (this is the most), weeping, energetic, bushy. You will also see how beavers deal with willows, which every year enter the garden and eat everything they find on their way. We also have a blueberry with over a dozen types of different berries (raspberries, currants, gooseberries, blueberries, cranberries, blackberries, etc.). There are also perennial beds blooming continuously from April to October), as well as various fruit trees - including cherries, apple trees, pear trees, plum trees, peaches, dogwoods. There is a large lawn to play, nooks for reading a book and hanging in a hammock. A huge gazebo by the river with sofas and a fireplace. Horses from the farm near the mill run in the neighboring meadows. You'll see the rest on the spot.
I provide the Mill in its entirety, so we will not bother you in the kitchen. You cook yourself and whatever you want on a given day. And if you don't feel like cooking, then in the neighborhood
there are many restaurants that deliver orders (or directly by phone, but via the delicious.pl portal).
We also recommend our befriended company Panderosa, which provides delicious (!) Catering, but only when a minimum of 10 meals is ordered over several days. In addition, in the area, we recommend Polish food in Dworek Mościbrody, fusion cuisine in Cicha Stanica and eastern delicacies from Smmakowity Zakątek.
One thing is certain - you will not starve here.
It is more than certain that you will not get bored. Starting from the immediate area, you can go on a trip through the surrounding meadows, through the woods and to the Gołobórz reserve or along the river. We often make coffee for thermal mugs and exhaust all topics of conversation during such trips.
We recommend a trip to the manor in Mościbród - take a walk around their great ponds. On the way back, it is worth visiting Stok Wiśniewski - an atmospheric, wooden village with a vineyard (you can buy wine). You can also go to the nearby "Jata" reserve and the nearby village of Jagodno, whose unpleasant history of displacement of people by the communist regime is still alive among the local residents. A slightly further trip to Siedlce should stop at the Diocesan Museum, where you can admire the Ecstasy of St. Francis by El Greco, in the park, palace and town hall.
Athletes will be pleased that in the area you can go canoeing on the Liwiec river (start in Wólka Proszewska) and then have lunch at the canoe base. You can also swim on the Bug (it is worth getting provisions and baseball caps here), and visit the Sanctuary in Kodeń beforehand. We also have interesting and varied bicycle routes. The lighter version of the route leads through meadows and villages on the Liwiec river, and the more difficult route leads through the Bug - although it is a bit more demanding, we highly recommend it. It leads through wooden villages and along the river.
If you have a bit further trips in your mind, head to Święta Góra Grabarka and the beautiful Drohiczyn, have a picnic on the bank of the Bug and visit Janów Podlaski.
What’s there for children?
First, a few words of warning: the mill is built in three intertwining galleries and you have to be careful with the stairs, although they are largely properly secured (we raised the kids here ourselves), but you have to be careful with the little ones.
Kids love mysterious nooks, old furniture and mill machines - they feel like in a cave full of adventures and sometimes we can't find them all day long. Mutual benefits. For bad weather, we have swings, board games, books and films in the mill. On the other hand, outside, the number one attraction is the so-called "small mill", i.e. a water toy with a water reservoir, water wheel, obstacles and an 8-meter aqueduct.
Little athletes can get tired on a trampoline, a swing, a sandbox or a soccer goal. We have a living willow gazebo, a blueberry with all the fruits that can be found in Polish gardens and hammocks where you can browse comics for hours, set games and create plans for secret bases. Horses from neighboring farms run around the surrounding meadows, so little animal lovers can freely watch them. If they would like to try their hand at the saddle, there are several stables and equestrian centers in the area.
