There are places in Poland that take your breath away at first sight, cause massive rainfall of jaws and group shouts: "how beautiful it is here!" This is what it is like in Żuławy, which are still waiting for their tourist boom. But we do not mind if the crowd passes us by and only enthusiasts of two wheels, windmills, juniper machandel and ... Four Panzer.
In the Middle Ages, Żuławy was inhabited by a strong representation of the Mennonite Olęders, later the German population moved here, and after the war, Kashubians, displaced people from Volhynia and the Vilnius Region, settled here - this mixture of cultures resulted in beautiful arcaded houses, wooden windmills and ornaments, i.e. ornaments, i.e. windows made with a laubzegue saw. We also inherit the excellent cheeses from Żuławy, a recipe for a hen rubbed with gingerbread, apple butter and excellent juniper. We invite you for a real break, for cycling trips, sunbathing and regional delicacies.
Groszkowo 6 is a large and comfortable family holiday home, in which we can comfortably accommodate up to 14 people. We already describe to you exactly what it looks like with us:
We have prepared 6 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and a separate toilet for you (nobody likes queues!). In addition, we have two spacious living rooms and a large kitchen with a dining room where everyone can fit. The truth is that you can come with a large group of friends or in 2-3 families and no one will get in your way. On the ground floor you will find: a kitchen with a dining room, a games room with a chaise longue and a round table, a lounge, a toilet and one bedroom with a bathroom. Steep stairs lead to the first floor (watch out for little ones), and there are 5 bedrooms (double and triple) and 2 bathrooms.
Our house is historic, pre-war, wooden and therefore it can be humorous. They manifest themselves in the creaking of doors, floors and traces of bark beetles as well as variable pressure in the tap. But thanks to its old age, we also have an orchard, a garden and a place to relax among the greenery and in the shade of trees - you can hide here with a book or rock in a hammock. Next to the house there is a barn with an additional space for relaxation and a ping pong table.
We are in the middle of the village, in front of us there are inhabited houses. Sometimes you can hear a car passing by and the occasional tractor. If you don't close the front door, your neighbors' dog or cat may come in. Swallows live under the roof, and from the morning you can hear the chirping of chicks. But we are totally reconciled with it - after all, we are in the countryside!
Our equipped kitchen allows for total culinary madness - you will find here everything you need to conjure up your favorite dishes. In the oven you bake a cake with fruit (those from the orchard near the house), everyone will fit at the table, and the dishwasher will do the "dirty job".
In the past, people used to work hard in Żuławy, ate fat and plentifully, and in order for the work in the field to go faster, a machandel was placed at the end of the field. We recommend nearby restaurants, where you will pamper your taste buds (and save yourself mixing in the saucepans). You can eat regionally (and deliciously) in Mały Holender, be sure to order crayfish soup, duck roasted in lard (heaven!), Potato cake and dessert from Żuławy railwaymen, and go for a fish to Kąty Rybackie or Sztutowo. You must try Żuławy cheeses and the local famous juniper.
Don't forget to shop for the grill - sausages and skewers roast by themselves!
It is simply impossible to be bored in Żuławy! Of course you can, because here nobody is punishing, forcing or chasing anything. So you can lie flat in the garden, wave a few asanas on the grass, swing in a hammock, read books and sip chilled lemonade. You can also lie down on the beach in Sztutowo, Stegna or in Kąty Rybackie and, moving from side to side, catch a golden tan.
You can also be more sporty: on a kayak or a sailboat along the Nogat River, which encourages fishing and sailing. You can rent a boat or a kayak and follow the meanders of the river to Malbork (and visit the castle), cross the Jagiellonian Channel to the Vistula Lagoon or moor at the marina in Biała Góra. In turn, from the marina in Osłonka and Żuławki on the Szkarpawa you can rent a yacht and go on a cruise on the Żuławy Loop for several days.
Żuławy is a mecca for cyclists and directly from home you can go on two wheels to the mouth of the Nogat, to the Vistula Lagoon (you go along dirt roads among fields, easy route, loop approx. 10 km). The famous international bicycle route R10 also runs through the nearby Mikoszewo. Its fragment on the Vistula Spit is considered to be one of the most beautiful of the entire loop, with a total length of over 8,500 km. It is worth taking a ride along a fragment of the Mennonite Trail (it runs through the Pomorskie and Warmińsko-Mazurskie voivodeships), which combines sightseeing attractions related to the history of settlement in the Vistula delta. The trail is flat and mostly runs on little frequented asphalt roads, so every cyclist (even beginners) should be able to do it.
We also recommend you to visit the Żuławy Museum and Żuławy Historical Park in Nowy Dwór Gdański (known as the capital of Żuławy). It is worth going for a ride in the open narrow-gauge railway carriages and visiting Nowy Staw with two markets and a characteristic pencil-shaped tower, and be sure to eat local lambs. Right next to Groszków there is a historic bridge on which the Four Tankers traveled in one of the episodes of the series. Manufaktura Hersztek in Nowa Kościelnica can significantly reduce the content of your wallets, because in the company's shop it is easy to lose your head for handmade tiles with windmills and other Dutch patterns. In Palczewo there is a small wooden church with beautiful paintings and beautiful sounding organs, and a Dutch windmill. The architecture of Żuławy, i.e. arcaded houses, can be seen in most towns, but you must go to Palczewo, Trutnowe and Marynowe. Ruins of churches can be found in Fiszewo and Steblewo, and one of the most beautiful castles in Malbork - book your whole day here for sightseeing. We are quite close to the Tri-City and all its attractions, if you are hungry for concerts, festivals, promenades, pubs and cafes - this is the right direction.
And if the weather turns out to be capricious, there is plenty of room in the house to hang out. Even with a dozen or so people, everyone will find space for themselves. The common area, consisting of two living rooms and a dining room, is over 70 m2 - you will not be crowded. You can play a game of ping-pong or play board games.
For children, we have a sand play set and a hammock in the garden that will rock you in the afternoon naps. Among the attractions in the area, we recommend: a narrow-gauge railway ride, canoeing (canoes for rent in the Sztutowo marina), the Mewia Łacha Reserve in Mikoszewo, a historic windmill in Mokry Dwór (there is also a mini zoo and a natural playground), windmills in Drewnica and Palczewo and trip to Gdańsk and Gdynia (40 min).
The garden is recommended for building secret bases, climbing trees and observing the night sky. For bad weather, we have board games and wooden toys.
