In this manor, Czesław Miłosz argued with Jan Józef Szczepański about the meaning of the Warsaw Uprising. Thirty years earlier, the first patrol of Piłsudski's Legions stopped here to march from Goszyce to independence. The manor, which once belonged to the family of Jerzy Turowicz, co-founder and editor-in-chief of Tygodnik Powszechny, is now run by his descendants - and they invite guests to it, ”wrote Andrzej Franaszek, literary scholar and author of the biography of Czesław Miłosz and Zbigniew Herbert about Goszyce.
Indeed, our manor house is a historical place. Kazimierz Wielki, Jadwiga Andegaweńska and Władysław Jagiełło already mentioned Goszyce. In 1914, the commander of the legionary cavalry, Władysław Belina-Prażmowski, stayed in the manor, Józef Piłsudski visited here in the interwar period, and Czesław Miłosz also found shelter during World War II. Our manor house has seen and experienced a lot - that's why we forgive its squeaky floors and work all the time to restore its splendor. Come to our doorsteps to rest in a place of living history.
We invite you to the historic manor house, which dates back to the 19th century. The manor house was built by my great-great-grandfather Artur Zawisza, probably according to the design of the famous Kraków-Lviv architect Teodor Talowski. The place is connected with the history of Poland primarily because of the figure of its last pre-war owner, Zofia née Zawisza Kernowa. Zofia Zawiszanka was the only daughter of Maria Wolska and Artur Zawisza, a poet and writer, an independence activist, an intelligence officer of the First Brigade of Piłsudski's Legions.
In the manor house we have five rooms for you: on the ground floor - Dworskie Klimaty with a double bed, a fold-out double sofa bed and a bathroom, on the first floor - Atelier with a double bed, two single beds and a bathroom,
- Niebieski with two single beds and a bathroom,
- Z Widokiem with a double bed, three ⁸ single beds, a bathroom and the only balcony in the house,
- Miedły with three single beds and a bathroom.
Up to 18 people can stay with us.
The entire building consists of a 300-meter high ground floor, a 200-meter attic and extensive, window-lit basements in the process of adaptation. On the ground floor there are 8 rooms: a library, a living room with a fireplace, a hall with a dining room, a kitchen, three rooms and three bathrooms and a separate toilet. In the attic we have 4 rooms with bathrooms. Not all rooms are available to guests. From the house you can conveniently exit to the southern and northern terraces and to the garden, where you usually sit all day long. We have internet and coverage here, but we pretend they don't exist and throw our phones in the corner - we advise you to do the same.
The house is surrounded by a park with ponds and then 20 hectares of fields and meadows.
On hot, humid days, mosquitoes and flies appear outside, but they are not particularly bothersome. During the day, you can sometimes hear the sounds of a tractor, saw or hammer. And during the harvest, a combine harvester appears in the nearby fields.
One thing is certain - you will not leave us either hungry or thinner. Leave your diets for the next season, because we serve Mediterranean delicacies here. The kitchen is ruled by Marta, who successfully pampered Polish and French taste buds. Our cuisine is very varied - you will eat brilliant meat here, but we will also take care of vegetarians. We like recipes with lots of vegetables and fruit available seasonally, and we take them from our backyard. Some of the products, including dairy products and meat, are obtained from local farmers and processors who have been known to us for many years. We pay special attention to the quality of the products we use, their taste, nutritional values and, in the case of vegetables and fruit, an ecological way of growing. At the same time, we make all kinds of preserves, preserves, jams and tinctures, which we then use when preparing meals. Gluten lovers have a paradise here, because Marta also bakes her own spelled and rye sourdough bread.
You can order breakfast, lunch and dinner on site.
However, if you want to eat in a restaurant, we will tell you where to go.
First of all, you can sleep in here, laze around and relax for all your time. Secondly, catch up on books from the last ten years or write your own. Thirdly, we encourage you to take walks in our garden and the nearby forest. Fourthly, it is worth getting on a bike and doing as many kilometers as you feel like. Fifthly... we won't tell you everything, but believe us, you can do a lot here.
The main cultural, historical and musical attractions are located primarily in nearby Krakow, where numerous events also take place every year (e.g. Miłosz Festival, Jewish Culture Festival, Conrad Festival, Book Fair, Street Theatre Festival, etc.), it is worth checking the calendar of events in the guide on an ongoing basis. We will be happy to advise you on what and where to find in Krakow at the moment, because we are there almost every day. Once you have seen the dragon, taken a walk along the Planty Park or the Vistula Boulevards, visited the Wieliczka Salt Mine, had a coffee in Lanckorona, or visited the Niepołomice Castle or the Tyniec Monastery, you can also visit the sulphur pools in Kazimierza Wielka.
