From the 1930s, the Smederov farm belonged to the Novák family. The first owner was a renowned physician, František Vladimír Novák, who after the First World War contributed to the research and development of medical radiology and worked at Prague's Bulovka. He and his wife, also a doctor, were looking for rural peace and a break from a demanding mission in Smeder's. The farm was very modern for its time and provided 100 cattle, as well as working and riding horses. The complex also had its own bakery, orchard and vegetable garden.
Dr. Novák died at the age of 46 as a result of many years of work at the Institute of Radiology. His mistress and children managed the difficult war years, mainly due to the self-sufficiency of the Smederov farm. After 1948, however, came nationalization and with it a great decline. The last nail in the coffin was a fire in the 1970s that engulfed the bakery and cowshed. The farm was deserted and instead of a rural paradise, it looked more like a dump.
After 1989, what was left of the farm returned to the hands of Dr. Novák's children and, in time, their grandchildren. And it was they who contributed to what the farm looks like today. Preparations began in 2009 and in 2016 an expensive reconstruction of all buildings that could still be saved took place.
Everyone who tries to save old places with history and devotes their time and money to the reconstruction of ancient memories has our admiration. That is also the farm in Smederov, which is proudly named Novák's Court.
