On the border of the Beskid Wyspowy and the Gorce Mountains, at the mouth of the Głębieniec stream to Kamienica, at the attention of the tectonic window, Szczawa, known for its healing waters, is located. And in Szczawa, a house that went down in history. Those with a happy ending. The house was built in 1937 and during the war, a kitchen for partisans hiding in the nearby forests was working well. Thanks to the natural camouflage and the location in the hollow of the stream, he saved a few lives - if someone did not know where to look, the house was invisible to him. In gratitude for saving Poles and Jews who were hiding here, a chapel was erected next to the house, which still stands today.
This house is like a talisman - it attracts good people and helps to write good stories. As it turns out, it was for him that we moved to the Beskids from the Tri-City. And we do not regret it. There is no reason to count on noise and crowds here, but peace is shared by everyone. Sometimes a moth will spin here, some curious mouse will come in or a neighbor will ask about the weather. It is worth pausing for a chat - maybe he will just tell some unknown story from the past of Flądrówka?
In Flądrówka there are three bedrooms, which we have named after their size. In the large bedroom you will find a large double bed, in the medium bedroom there is also a double bed (slightly narrower), and in the small one there is a bunk bed (which even adults sometimes fight over). The house is old, it was built just before World War II and despite our renovation, you can hear the roof working, and sometimes you may hear the water heater and radiators working - don't panic! Grandparents are like that.
We have stunning views from the windows of the Gorce and Tatras, but the best views are from the bathtub in the upper bathroom (you will have to queue for this comfortable viewpoint). If you are cold, the living room, dining room with kitchen, medium and small bedroom can be heated by the fireplace. In the summer, the attic becomes a natural sauna.
You can get to the house by two roads. One of them is asphalt, but steep (in winter, 4x4 drive and chains are necessary, the last few hundred meters are a dirt road). The other is less steep, but with a questionable surface quality, i.e. a dirt road through the forest. It may happen that without a 4x4 car in winter you won't get directly to the house, due to the large amount of snow (in January and February even 1 m). Flądrówka also includes a barn, which stands next to the house and is waiting for its turn to be renovated. Sometimes a neighbor comes to the house next door and hangs around the yard. If you feel like it, you can pop over to his place for a chat - he'll be happy to tell you about Flądrówka, because he used to live there.
Since we work remotely ourselves, our house offers everything you need for Workation - a table with a comfortable armchair, a monitor, a mouse, a keyboard, a printer. Mobile Internet 40/20 Mb/s is sufficient for VIDEO conversations with the camera on, using TEAMs and of course sending emails. It is not very suitable for sending very large attachments. If you want to use Netflix and Video at the same time, you can do it, but the image quality may be a bit lower.
We don't have any shops or restaurants nearby, so do your shopping on your way to us. It is true that in the forests and meadows next to the house you can pick blueberries, wild strawberries and mushrooms, but it will probably not be the basis of your meals. If you dream about country eggs, you can ask local farmers about them. If you want good quality cheese - go to the nearest shepherds' huts (they are in Obidza and Ochotnica), while you can buy goat's cheese 5 minutes from the house. In orchards several kilometers away from us, you can buy pears and apples directly from producers, and home-made butter and cottage cheese from a friendly hostess. Delicious wines can be bought in the surrounding vineyards, and spirits in Tłocznia Maurera (we also know where to buy slivovitz, but it will probably be better if we keep this information for ourselves).
All the restaurants we have checked are listed below.
The best thing about us is that you can come to us and spend your vacation in two ways: on the move or still. The stillness is supported by the views from the hammock, fireplace, comfortable sofas, wifi and netflix, which also works on the TV in the bathroom (the one with the bathtub!). In turn, fantastic walking routes speak for movement:
- in Zalesie - Wyrębiska,
- cross-country and bicycle route (cross-country skiing in winter) around Mogielica,
- educational and historical paths around Mogielica (partly overlapping the PTTK trail and the running and cycling route)
- PTTK trail to Mogielica and other routes of the Beskid Wyspowy (the nearest peak "Hala" is 20-30 minutes away from us, over Flądrówka) and Gorców,
through the Gorce National Park,
- mountain routes to the peaks: Mogielica (can be reached from home), Modyń (lookout tower), Jasień, Gorc (lookout tower), Turbacz, Magurki (lookout tower) - it's better to drive up a bit by car,
- a bit further: routes in the Pieniny and Beskid Sądecki, Rabka-Zdrój, Krościenko, Szczawnica, Piwniczna-Zdrój, Łomnica-Zdrój,
- cyclists appreciate the nearby route: LIMANOWA - OLD VILLAGE - ZALESIE - TENEMENT HOUSE - SZCZAWA
In the vicinity, it is worth going to:
- Mineral Water Pump Room in Szczawa,
- Museum of the 1st Podhale Rifle Regiment of the Home Army in Szczawa,
- Łącka and take a walk along the promenade on the Dunajec River,
- Stary Sącz with a historic market square and beavers,
- Nowy Sącz,
- Open-air museum in Jędrzejkówka in Laskowa.
If you like organized games, we also recommend you to participate in the historical staging in Szczewo - the Allied airdrops on Szczawa. They are held 1-2 times a year at varying dates, there are aviation shows ending with the drop of candies for children. Local summer festivals are organized in various towns of the Beskid and Gorce Mountains, but you really need to see the famous Polish redyki in Szczawnica, Obidza and Ochotnica.
What’s there for children?
Toddlers sit in the sandbox or play in the stream flowing from the gutter. The more patient ones try to train cats that come to us or use toys. In winter, kids can go tobogganing, because the area around the house is very sloping, we even had a toboggan run here. There are kids-friendly ski slopes nearby (e.g. Kubuś). We have board games for bad weather.
What’s there for employees?
Our kitchen has several functions. It is a place of shared meals, long conversations, but also a place of work. There is a large table for eight people, where you can sit comfortably with a laptop and get into the whirlwind of work. For people whose work requires more concentration, we offer a semi-professional position in a large bedroom. Here you will find a desk with a monitor, a keyboard, a mouse, a lamp and an armchair. The second place is in a small bedroom, but only a desk with a chair is available here. Our internet allows you to make video calls, team meetings and send e-mails. Unfortunately, it is not very suitable for sending very large attachments. If you want to use Netflix and video at the same time, you can, but the picture quality may be a bit lower.
