Here you will often hear the word "caldera." If you're not familiar with geology, you might think it's a local name. But the explanation is much more interesting. Let's start with the fact that we are on the western side of Santorini - the one that is a little less touristy, more mountainous and more spectacular. At first glance, it seems to be surrounded by the Aegean Sea just like the eastern part of the "croissant". And yet it is not quite so. It is even possible that tourists on the beaches of Perissa and Kamari do not know that on the opposite shore of the island there is one of the largest calderas in the world: in other words, a huge (the diameter is as much as ten kilometers) natural pool at the top of an underwater volcano. Translated into even simpler language, here you bathe right above the crater! As if that wasn't exciting enough, we remind you that the volcano is still active. Evidence of this are the hot springs on the islet of Nea Kameni in the middle of the caldera. The famous colorful beaches are also a reminder of the former volcanic activity - we are closest to the Red one.
Aura Marina is a complex of nine snow-white apartments above Santorini's caldera. Adults are invited to enjoy a peaceful holiday with their loved ones. Pets are welcome upon request.

Akrotiri is quiet and semi rural, with a couple of taverns with home cooking within walking distance, a couple of grocery stores, a souvlaki stand, a fruit stand and a pizzeria. Most of these places are concentrated in the centre of the village, around the St. Epifanios Traditional Orthodox Church - you will see its blue dome from a distance.

You will be in the south-west part of Santorini, on caldera side, with easy access to a bunch of places worth seeing. If climbing the rocks appeals to you, you will definitely not feel bored. The closest place of interest is the archeological site of the ancient Akrotiri city, also called the Aegean Pompeii. You may also visit Akrotiri Lighthouse, which is 4 km away (a free alternative to the Oia spot), or enjoy the colourful cliff panorama from Kokkinopetra peak.
Beaches are also accessible on foot: there are Caldera, Red, White and Black beaches within your reach on both sides of the island. The water from May through October here is gorgeous, clear and about 23-25 degrees Celsius. Please keep in mind that beach sand is quite rocky, we suggest wearing water shoes.
Having a car at your disposal may be convenient when going to Fira, Firostefani, Oia and Imerovigli - the most special places in Santorini. If you prefer a bus, there is a bus stop about 1,5 km from the apartments, in the village center.
We do not allow parties. The apartments are dedicated to slow and relaxing holiday only.
