The whole world knows thermal baths, the bathing establishments from the time of the Roman Empire. In Acqui Terme, in northwestern Italy, there were thermal waters even before the arrival of the Romans, the city was founded by the Ligurians still in prehistory. Only afterwards, in the 2nd century BC, the Romans destroyed it in battle and rebuilt it. The aqueduct that has been uncovered in the south of the city, on the banks of the river Bormida, also dates back to this period. After the construction of the Roman road Aemilia Scaurii, the city gained economic importance. In the Roman Empire, until its fall, it was known for its thermal springs, which were even considered among the best in the whole Empire.
The thermal waters still bring many visitors to Acqui Terme today, not only to the thermal baths, but also when they - with colored lighting - create atmosphere in the evenings in Piazza Bollente. It is not for nothing that many concerts and events take place here. The heritage of the Roman times is also celebrated on the square every year with a historical chariot race. Acqui Terme and its surroundings owe also another achievement to the Romans: the cultivation of wine. Today, wine with the designation of origin "Monferrato" and "Barbera d'Asti" may be produced here. So that would be 1,2,3,... many reasons for you to visit Acqui! :-)
Verdmont offers several accommodation options, which makes it also perfect for larger groups and families. They are all located on the same property and each has a separate entrance, terrace and garden area. However, they share the property, pool and yoga deck.
The loft is 100 sqm and airy with two adjoining bedrooms, bathroom, open living room, kitchen with induction cooktop, oven and dishwasher. There is a large "island", meaning an open living and dining area inside and a large dining table outside on the terrace. It can accommodate a maximum of 8 people.
The Cabana is a 45 sqm studio in the house by the pool with large doors overlooking the water, a simple kitchen for meals with an induction cooktop, a refrigerator with freezer and all utensils, as well as a spacious indoor and outdoor dining area. A maximum of 4 people can sleep here.
The Glamping is a custom A-frame tent for 2-3 people in its own private garden with private walk-in shower and outdoor kitchen. It is perfect for a little adventure and comfortable at the same time.
The Room in turn is a luxurious large bedroom with lounge and bathroom. It offers tea and coffee making facilities, an outdoor terrace with sun loungers and a dining table. It can accommodate 2-4 people.
We also offer cooking & dining experiences at Verdmont, if you ever wanted to learn how to make pasta or pizza in a wood fired oven just ask.
In addition we have a trained therapist available for massage and relaxation.
Smoking is absolutely prohibited on the premises of Verdmont. Smoking stations are located in front of the entrance gate or the side gate. Please throw cigarette waste in the bins provided for this purpose.
The kitchen of the Loft offers induction hob, oven and dishwasher. In addition, the meals prepared here can be taken either directly adjacent in the living area or also at the large dining table on the terrace of the Loft. And also the Cabana has a kitchen with induction cooktop and refrigerator with freezer compartment.
But also in the other accommodations no one has to starve - we are happy to provide you with meals made from local products or our organically grown vegetables. To start the day for example you can have our breakfast basket delivered directly to your accommodation, which you can open on the terrace, in the garden or by the pool and eat the delicacies from it. Taste for instance our homemade honey or jam to sweeten your day. We can also provide lunch and dinner, just let us know in advance (also for your food preferences), but we point out that we cook mainly vegetarian.
If you get hungry during your visit to the city or would like to eat out anyway, we recommend two places in the center of Acqui Terme. The I Caffi di Chiriotti Sara offers not only delicious ristretto but also creative seasonal dishes such as "Fassone's raw meat, beaten with a knife", tagliatelle with duck ragout, rack of lamb in flower crust or veal ragout from Nice. The Da nonna Gina, on the other hand, awaits you with different antipasti variations, pasta as the first plate, meat dishes as the second and tempting desserts - optionally everything as a complete menu.
Oh, and while you're in the city, be sure to visit one of the ice cream parlors - in my opinion, they have the best ice cream in the world!
Once you've recharged your batteries in and around the pool, in the garden, or on one of the terraces, you can head out to explore the surrounding area. Acqui Terme itself is known for its hot sulfurous thermal springs, one of which is located in the center of town. This one was formed in the 1870s in the shape of an octagon, called La Bollente, and dispenses thermal water at about 75 °C. Of course there is also a thermal bath - why else would the city have the byname "Terme"? -, the Spa Lago delle Sorgenti, where you can relax in various pools and with various treatments.
Also worth a visit are the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, the Castle (Castello dei Paleologi) - today an archaeological museum - and the church Chiesa dell'Addolorata, which has been preserved in parts, as well as the Roman Aqueduct (Acquedotto).
Wine lovers and connoisseurs take note: Acqui is authorized for the cultivation and production of wines with controlled designation of origin of the Monferrato denomination. In addition, the wine with the state-controlled denomination of origin Barbera d'Asti may be produced here. Accordingly, you will find many wine producers here, who will offer you their best drops during a tour. We are happy to help you plan your trip, just ask us! We also have maps if you want to take a walk along the UNESCO protected vineyards of Monferrato.
Speaking of wine: while walking through those vineyards, you'll see a bench you want to rest on - but as you approach it, it gets bigger and bigger! No, you haven't had too much wine or a sunstroke, it's a work by artist Chris Bangle as part of a community project, and its dimensions invite you to feel like a little kid again while enjoying the view.
And many more great places are within minutes of our grounds. But also, if you want to make a trip by car, Asti with its sparkling wines (1 hour by car), Alba with its white truffles (also 1 hour by car), or Alessandria with its Cittadella and old town (40 minutes) are waiting for you.
What’s there for children?
From the pool, which is poor in chemicals, with its shallow walkways for children, to the sculpture garden, the hideout, the small playground with, among other things, swings and trampoline, or the biodiversity area - there is a lot for the little ones to discover here. In addition, with a little luck - since we are a little quieter and away from the city - they can observe the native animals that can be seen here from time to time. You can also watch the stars through a telescope.
Entertainment in the house is provided by various children's toys and books.
You can also have fun away from Verdmont, for example on the already mentioned giant benches in the vineyards or swimming in the nearby river Bormida - we will gladly give you the coordinates of a safe place to do so!
And one more special offer: if parents want to spend time as a couple, we will organize childcare so that the time for two will be worry-free. Just let us know!
