In our pueblo it is like this: between 9.00 and 9.15 a van with fresh bread cheerfully honks in the main square. Whoever stares, does not eat, and after a night of feasting in the bodega, you can get a glimpse of it. Then it remains to pick grapefruits and avocados from the backyard garden and treat them to company with amigos. And then just go to the seaside, to the mountains or to explore Granada. Where specifically, you will decide on a regular basis, because things are not planned here. Here, in our Andalusian house surrounded by almond groves, all life dilemmas are solved on the terrace over morning coffee.
We would call the novel of our origins from Sorvilán "Love in a Time of Plague". At the start of the lockdown, we came across an offer to sell a traditional country house in Andalusia. Hola guapo! - it was a fiery and difficult feeling. Because apart from the big dream, we had even greater doubts and the hill was higher than the one on which the house stands. Closed borders and offices, canceled flights and we do not speak Spanish. Our newly met Spanish amigo, Javier, with whom we got along with the help of a translator, helped. Now we have more amigos: there is Cora from Ireland, our neighbor, where you will go yoga, or Pablo from Argentina, who will be happy to invite you to tango. Here in Andalusia, at 800 meters above sea level, people, nature, good music and even better food count. Give up your cares, take your Camaradas and come over. Sorvillan will welcome you with the sun and blooming almond trees, and you will return to your Polish pueblo with warmth in your heart.
We invite you to our house situated on the slopes of Appujara in Pueblo Sorvilán. It is a traditional mountain house, a typical example of Andalusian architecture. It is made of local stone and some walls are even 1 m wide.
The house consists of a ground floor and a second floor and is fully let to you. A total of 7 people will sleep in three bedrooms with a different arrangement of beds. All 3 bedrooms are located on the ground floor and there is also a toilet on the ground floor.
The first floor consists of a living room with fireplace, spacious kitchen, bathroom, balcony and large terrace. This terrace of ours is a great thing - possibly the most wonderful thing in the house. On it, you will eat lazy breakfasts, indulge in a siesta, and in the evenings you will sit comfortably with a glass of wine. And something tells us that you will remember the view from this terrace for a long time.
As if that was not enough, there is also a garden with a view of the sea and mountains at your disposal. You dash lemons and pomegranates in it, and there is also an avocado for morning guacamole. At your disposal is also a bodega with the possibility of an independent entrance from the garden. It is a traditional place for feasting and making music in an Andalusian atmosphere.
Sorvilán, where we are located, is a charming Andalusian town with Islamic roots, not far from Granada and even closer to the Mediterranean Sea. We have a subtropical climate here, and the local hills are covered with almond trees and grapevines. In 20 min. you will get from us to the Alboran Sea. Time flows lazily here, apart from the hustle and bustle and pace of the modern world. This is a great advantage of this place, although sometimes it can be a challenge for visitors.
Please see our driving directions and where and when to buy something to eat.
One more thing: if you want to come to us for a job, no problem. There is high-speed internet at home, there is also a printer, you can work remotely without worries.
You will have to take care of the food yourself. You can buy fresh vegetables and fruits at the Saturday market in Sorvilán, bread is delivered every morning, and for more shopping, it's better to go to the Dia supermarket in Albuñol on your way to the beach. At home, a spacious and well-equipped kitchen awaits you, and meals are best eaten, of course, on the terrace.
A handful of nutritional tips from us:
- Shops in Spain are closed on Sunday and open until around 2pm on Saturday,
- You can buy bread every day around 9.00-9.15 in Plaza Alta Square. A van carrying fresh bread always beeps happily before arriving so that no one gets confused.
- Vegetables and fruit arrive every Saturday from around 9.00 am. A truck welcomes you at the aforementioned square. At this stall on big wheels you can buy literally everything.
- A doorstep shop opens every Wednesday from 9.00 am to 11.00 am. You can buy all the basic things to eat, household chemicals, but also e.g. batteries. There is only dairy and meat in the shop.
- There is a small local pub by the church in the village. You can meet the inhabitants, drink coffee, beer or wine.
- Every Sunday around 2 p.m. the bar next to the church serves absolutely delicious lunches for 10 euros per person.
- We also encourage you to visit the newly opened vegan / vegetarian restaurant - the nearby town of Polopos
- Lovers of wine and traditional Spanish food, we encourage you to visit the restaurant and vineyard at the same time - Haza del Lino
Siesta - yes, but nobody here has ever heard of boredom. Immediately after landing at the airport in Granada, you throw yourself into the slack, put on a mental sombrero and you switch to Amigos de Sorvilán mode. You can do a lot here, you do not need anything, and all this is to relax as much as possible: enjoying the Spanish sun, a charming town and the company of your favorite amigos.
Let's start with the house itself. In it, not boredom takes many forms: you can indulge in it on the terrace, catching up on books, or simply admiring the views of the sea and the hills. You can use the garden, stroll around the town lazily, and in the evenings, feast with your friends with Spanish cuisine, with conversations over wine that last until the night.
For those willing and seeking complete relaxation, we offer a professional massage on site at home or literally 100 meters away in the charming El Jazmin created especially for your comfort :-).
We can also offer yoga and meditation classes :-). Just let us know what you want :-)!
We have many amigos in the town, with which you will also become friends soon:
- with Pablo from Argentina, you will learn to dance tango,
- we recommend a visit to the friendly restaurant Haza del Lino, where you can also visit the vineyard and buy local wines,
- and our Dutch friends Tysa and Wijnand in Polopos will invite you to a cooking course combined with a tasting.
And now the attractions that our neighborhood has to offer - something tells us that you will be satisfied:
- In 20 min. you will reach the Alboran Sea by car and relax on one of its beautiful beaches. You can also take advantage of the opportunities offered by diving centers for underwater adventures.
- Such an advantage of this area that, in addition to the sea, we also have mountains here: the Appujarski Mountains. You can cross it on foot, bike or motorbike, and go skiing in the nearby Sierra Nevada.
- It would be a sin not to visit the nearby Granada - but we probably do not have to persuade you to do so. It is said that whoever has not seen Granada has seen nothing. This historic city, named after the pomegranate, was the center of the last Muslim state in the Iberian Peninsula in the late Middle Ages. The influence of Arab culture can be seen here in architecture and art. Make sure to visit the Alhambra, the historic palace complex (note: tickets must be booked many months in advance!), The local cathedral from the 16th century, and the Albaicín district, with its atmosphere like in Marrakesh.
PS The bus to Granada departs from the square on Calle Careterra at 9.00 am; return 16.50.
- You are only 1.5 hours from Sorvilán to Malaga. And there is no shortage of attractions in Málaga. There you will see Picasso's birthplace, visit the Center Pompidou contemporary art museum, go back in time at the 8th-century citadel and taste delicious dishes with Moorish influences. Moreover, it is only 140 km from Malaga to Gibraltar, so if you dream of a further trip ...
What’s there for children?
We do not have special attractions prepared for kids, but they also deserve Spanish holidays from life and are equally welcome as all adults. Take them to the beach or bike and show them the charms of living in an Andalusian town. In the house, there is a beach set with umbrellas and mattresses waiting for guests to make their stay on the beach relaxing and fun. For the evenings, we have prepared a collection of board games and interesting books in various languages :-).
What’s there for employees?
What if you drop everything and go to Spain? It's a good plan, but wouldn't it be better to take a laptop and come here for longer, for workation. Working combined with sunbathing on the terrace and overlooking the sea sounds too beautiful, but here it is possible. You can already imagine the envious glances of your co-workers when you come to video conferences relaxed and tanned. After making up for vitamin D deficiency, finish your e-mails in a separate room, the so-called bodega, which is located on a separate floor and also has an independent entrance from the outside.
In our house, we have already hosted 3 people who worked at the same time and for everyone there was a quiet and comfortable corner to work.
