In 1905, German workers built a house in a mysterious narrow gorge on the bank of a stream. But what a house! The beautiful multi-storey stone building served as a gas station. However, it was only 20 years useful. Then the gas was replaced by electricity in the surrounding houses. And the house began to fall into disrepair.
It was not until the 1960s that it was rebuilt into a family house, but unfortunately it continued to fall into disrepair. That the ghost of one of the workers, who is allegedly buried 200 m from the gas plant, would have his fingers in it? Hard to say.
Fortunately, it has been more than 20 years since the building functions as a guest house. And the new owner Hanka has decided to make it a fascinating place with beautiful views of the rocks and waterfall, where every Slow Travel lover can dream. We keep our fingers crossed that the building flourishes, the guests are relaxed and the spirit of the worker finally comes to rest and does not disturb anyone.
The whole stone house is hidden in a narrow gorge. Each window thus represents a beautiful original painting that no impressionist would be ashamed of. The theme in this area is rocks, waterfalls and soothing greenery.
You can choose from one of 4 rooms. On the first floor you will find a 2-BED ROOM and a FAMILY ROOM - an atypical room with 1 bedroom, a seating area, wooden beams and irregular windows.
On the second floor, it is made for you in a 3-BED ROOM with a private bathroom and narrow windows. And upstairs, nicely under the roof, there's a ROMANTIC TOWER. You can enter here 4, but you will definitely not be sad at two.
Behind the house is wild, untamed nature, a gurgling stream and cool air. In front of the house a pleasant outdoor seating area, from where you can observe the beauty with a glass of wine. Our guests have one more terrace behind the house so that they do not have to associate with random passers-by.
When you wake up in the morning, come to us for breakfast. You can start your day in the beautiful, industrial-style dining room, in your room or on the terrace. If you like your specialty at breakfast, you can keep it in the fridge in your room so that no one can eat it for you. This also applies to a bottle of wine, of course.
Part of Stará Plynárna is a famous restaurant, where you have the door open all day. If you want to enjoy a holiday without tourists, use the private terrace, where you can have breakfast, drink, and even barbecue.
Although the house in the photos looks like it has been cut off from civilization, it is not. A few steps from the main entrance you will connect to the main road to the village Hřensko. It is rightly called the gateway to Bohemian Switzerland.
It is a beautiful 5 kilometers from us to the famous Pravčická gate. Surely you know that it is the largest sandstone rock gate in Europe. But you may not know that according to legend, the gate is named after the hermit Prebiš, who lived in a nearby cave. He shunned the people and enjoyed the peace that was in the wild. And then a terrifying image of a monumental rock gate, which crowds of people come to, appeared in his head. He also asked God not to live to see the procession in his favorite, quiet place. And so, once he prayed, a huge boulder was released from the large overhang, which overwhelmed the hermit, thus creating the basis for the Pravčice Gate from the overhang. But Prebiš, which he wished, had never seen.
If you love meditation on natural beauty, do not miss the Elbe canyon, decorated with massive rock walls, gorges and caves. And, of course, the nearby Elbe Sandstone Protected Landscape Area, which resembles popular national parks in the USA. The only difference is that "our" rock formations are mostly covered with forests.
The river Kamenice offers a beautiful boat trip - of course with an experienced gondolier. Edmund's Gorge and Wild Gorge are one of the biggest attractions of the Bohemian Switzerland National Park and an unforgettable romantic experience.
What’s there for children?
Kids love walks, but you have to choose a sufficiently attractive destination. The Rural Agricultural Museum in Srbská Kamenice is one of them. It is located directly on the nature trail, in a sandstone cave. The children will love the "primitive" agricultural machines from the last century and they will also meet a woman who is cheerfully farming in the museum.
An easy circuit that children can handle is the path to the Three Springs, the Pravčická Gate and further along the Gabriela Trail. This is a wonderful day trip, part of which you will complete on the rafts of the Wild and Edmund gorges. An unforgettable experience!
For creative activities, take part in a workshop in the Rubens soap factory, where you will have a fragrant joy. And with smaller children, definitely go to the forest adventure area on Mezní louka.
