There are many legends about the name of our village, picturesquely situated on the border of two lake districts - Iławskie and Brodnickie. We don't know which one is true. We know that at the time when East Prussia was here, these lands belonged to two Englishmen, the Albers brothers. In the manor house surrounded by a park and garden, a family cemetery built on a linden leaf plan and Merino sheep lazily nibbling on green grass, there are almost no traces left. The neo-gothic chapel, fragments of the fence and old linden trees and oaks that remember the past. There is always a lake with the same name as the village - Trupel. With an over 15-kilometer long coastline, gentle descents into the water, piers hidden among bulrush, hedgehogs and reeds, and an island inhabited by cormorants. And right next to its shore is our cottage for 4 people, built of coniferous wood, in the Scandinavian interiors of which we invite you.
It takes less than a minute to reach the private pier to start the day enjoying a coffee from the roasting room in Toruń or a refreshing bath. And in the evening, watch the pink sunset and forget about the whole world for a moment. Because that's what you come to see us for. To the views, to the lake, to peace.
In a house situated on a 1500-meter plot, right on the shore of a nearly 300-hectare lake. Surrounded by meadows and forests. A 38-meter space full of comfort and Scandinavian minimalism, we have created for 4 people. There will be two bedrooms at your disposal, one with a double bed and the other with two single beds. Both at the top, there are full-size stairs leading to them. In this space, with a spruce floor, please do not wear shoes. One of the bedrooms has a desk and chair. It is a space with a beautiful view that inspires you to write down your thoughts. But it's easier to do it in a notebook than on a computer, because the internet is meant to be average. Same as phone coverage.
Downstairs you will find a spacious living room with a comfortable sofa, a functional kitchenette and a round dining table. And also a bathroom with a shower.
We have refined the space in every detail so that you are comfortable with us, you do not run out of anything, and the interior full of light does not distract your attention, which we want to focus on the most important figure here - nature. Wood in the lead role, juxtaposed with the white walls and gray and black furniture, we have broken with cozy accessories in the form of blankets and pillows. The walls are decorated with paintings with organic abstraction by Alicja Grążawska. One of them was created with us and was inspired by the surroundings.
The cottage is open all year round, there is air conditioning with heating function downstairs and upstairs. And also a goat that can be kindled on cooler evenings. Inside, we mainly enjoy silence, so you will not find a TV or audio equipment. Instead, board games, books and magazines are waiting for you.
Outside there is a fireplace and barbecue area. On the terrace you will find a sofa, two armchairs and sun loungers.
We say our plot is bowing to the lake. The terrain slopes from about half of its length. This part is intact, we leave it natural with tall meadow grass. A public path to the lake runs next to the house. We are surrounded by meadows and trees, we also plant plants that will hide us even more, but on the one hand, our neighbor's buildings are visible.
Although the kitchenette at home is really well equipped, we encourage you to experiment and cook outdoors. For this purpose, we have prepared a barbecue for you and a place for a bonfire with a cauldron. In order to be able to make the dream of a coffee drunk on the pier overlooking the lake come true, we have equipped the kitchen with a coffee machine and delicious coffee from the Napar roaster in Toruń.
You will have approx. 2 km to the nearest village shop. Every morning you can buy delicious rolls there.
And if you don't feel like cooking, we are 18 kilometers away from Iława, and there you will find several restaurants.
Will I not be bored? If you're happy with the lake, you won't. If you want to wash off the city dust, go offline and enjoy the captivating silence, neither. If you want the days to flow at an unhurried pace and be filled with contact with nature, we'll shake our heads again.
In the cottage there is a set of time-lovers: delicious coffee and a selection of books, magazines and board games for long evenings, which may pass unnoticed into the night, to the sound of crackling wood in the fireplace.
The most important:
- 50 meters from the cottage, there is a private jetty where you can enjoy your morning coffee and sunset in the evening. The path leads up the steps to the gate and then through the forest to the lake. It is magical, because it reaches the shore in less than a minute, but it returns much longer, because you usually don't want to.
- Approx. We have 150 meters to the communal beach with a long pier and a gentle descent into the water. There are no crowds there. On the pier, you can lie down, soak up the views, observe nature and fish from it.
- Lake Trupel has numerous gentle descents and piers hidden among the rushes. In its southern part there are three islets, one is inhabited by cormorants.
We also have good news for active people. POPOKÓJ is a great starting point for cycling, walking and jogging. We especially recommend:
- A bicycle route to Rakowe Lake, and further to Kisielice.
- A picturesque road to the nearby village of Szwarcenowo. There you can see a wooden church from 1721. And the route is a good start for a bicycle trip around the area.
I, Marek, are an avid cyclist and I will be happy to share with you the routes and routes discovered here that you will not find on the Internet. You will be able to follow my footsteps by using the Strava app.
What else?
- 15 km separates us from the ruins of the castle in Szymbark, which can be walked around (and unfortunately only admired from the outside). They were the setting of the film King Alder and the prototype of the ruins of the lake castle, which Zbigniew Nienacki described in the novel Pan Samochodzik i Winnetou. It is the second largest gothic castle in Poland.
- There are two nature reserves nearby: Uroczysko Piotrowice Reserve and Karaś Lake Reserve.
- Less than 30 km is to Kurzętniki, where there is Kurza Góra with a 2-kilometer wooden walking path leading to a 35-meter observation tower, which offers a magnificent view of the Drwęca valley. In winter, Kurza Góra is the largest ski station in northern Poland with well-groomed slopes and the largest snow factory in Europe.
What’s there for children?
The youngest will also experience pleasure and bliss with us. In the shade of trees, so that the scorching sun does not interfere with any carefully prepared plans, we have created a space full of fun. There is an open house with a climbing frame and slide, a sandpit, a swing for the little ones and a stork's nest.
There are books for children at home. At the top of the stairs, we have installed a protective railing that prevents children from descending on their own. If you need a high chair and a travel cot, we can provide them.
We let you know that the lake is downhill here (more or less in the middle of the plot there is a natural slope) and we have stairs leading to the gate, through which you go to the lake.
