Nový Jičín is a hatter's town, which is why a hatter's workshop and shop also operated in this house. Today, however, you can no longer buy a hat in the area. On the other hand, you can enjoy the hospitality of the family cafe, located on the ground floor, and rest your body on the bed of one of the 6 originally designed apartments. Although you are within easy reach of hiking trails to Radhošt and Lysa Hora, bike paths and walks around the surrounding tourist spots, here the day starts with a home-made cake - fresh out of the oven, exclusive scrambled eggs and specialty coffee in the romantic brick courtyard.

All this in the house that the academic painter (and a native of Novi Jičín) Hugo Baar had built for his wife Leonia. He honed his artistic sensibilities at schools in Vienna and Munich, in order to project them into an apartment building in the center of Nové Jičín more than 100 years ago. The recent complete reconstruction of the house followed this artistic direction and the result is distinctive and surprising in terms of design. Just beautiful.

The accommodation architecturally respects and acknowledges the building elements that were imprinted on them by their builder, the academic painter Hugo Baar. The apartments are unique and original, but at the same time they do not suppress the functionality of the accommodation. So, in short, you will relax wonderfully in them.

In each apartment you will find a comfortable double bed, an equipped kitchenette and an elegant private bathroom. The walls and windows are carefully soundproofed so that you only hear your own thoughts. The sofa is excellent for sitting, sleeping and taking an afternoon nap.

A great day starts with a perfect breakfast. And we will gladly indulge you every day in our cafe on the ground floor of the building. Cafe Kovárna BAAR has excellent coffee, homemade cakes and an à la carte breakfast prepared for you. All day long, the doors are open for you both to sit directly in the cafe and to meditate in the romantic, historic courtyard.

When you get tired of us, which happens very rarely, you can stand by the stove in the apartment yourself. The kitchens are not only beautiful to look at, but also very well equipped.

And there are also plenty of restaurants in the city to choose from. Or our staff in the cafe will be happy to recommend one.

If you are looking for a place where you can combine your love of walking in nature and the city, then Nový Jičín is a brilliant choice. The historic city with many beautiful monuments is strategically located near the Beskydy Mountains. The region welcomes cyclists, skiers and other athletes, while not neglecting the desires of art lovers.

In 2015, the city of Nový Jičín received awards for the Most Beautiful Square in the Czech Republic and the Most Beautiful Railway Station in the Czech Republic. The entire historical core of the city is a city conservation reserve. On the square Masaryk Square with its arcade, you will find a number of historic town houses, each of which hides an interesting story. The original wooden houses were destroyed by fire, as were most of their Renaissance and Baroque successors. That is why a large number of classicist and historical architectural gems can be seen on the square today.

The square is also decorated with the so-called Fountain of Time. Every quarter of an hour, a beautiful performance from 9 water fountains will unfold before your eyes. Dominating the square is the plague column with a statue of the Virgin Mary, Saint John of Nepomuck and other figures, the most mysterious of which is certainly the sleeping hermit from Palermo. A fountain with a sculpture of dancing peasants by Franz Barwig can be seen close to the column. Feel free to ask the locals why Barwig's work once divided the residents of this otherwise peaceful town.

Nový Jičín also invites you to take a walk among the trees. Visit the Skalky forest park, the Zvěkrukhová garden or the Smetana orchards. In Sady Janáčeková, you will find not only a bust of this musical great, but also a commemorative plaque to Karl Kryl, who was born in Nové Jičín.

In addition, the surroundings of the city are part of the PODBESKYDÍ Nature Park. You can explore it on foot or by bike. The KOLEJE cycle path is particularly beautiful - it was created on the site of a 120-year-old local railway line that was destroyed by a flood. It leads from Nové Jičín to Hostašovice and is adapted for cross-country skiing in winter.
