The part of Andalusia, where our casa is located, captivated us primarily with its natural, far from civilization character. We are 20 minutes by car from the nearest seaside town, 45 minutes from Granada, and sometimes a single goat passes by the road that runs next to the house. However, you won't get here by goat sled - to be able to enjoy the local benefits, you will have to rent a car at the airport. As a last resort: from the seaside town of Salobreña, there is a bus to our village 2x a day, but this is a rather inconvenient option for staying and exploring the area.
AT LOCATION
Sue us for clichés, but time really slows down here. Before you stretch well in the morning, drink your first coffee and finish your breakfast on the terrace, it's noon. When we return to Poland after staying at Casa Algarrobo, we notice that our movements are somewhat slower, and all cars overtake us on the road. To achieve this state, from the unhurried Andalusian entertainment on site, we offer you:
– Spanish feasts on the terrace, until the very night, because the sun sets here late,
– splashing in the pool overlooking the nearby peaks,
– reading books on a deckchair that you wanted to finish a long time ago,
– terrace yoga with a view – unparalleled!; at home you will find exercise aids, because Marcin is a yoga instructor, and we only suggest that Casa Algarrobo is a great place for a yoga trip,
– walks to the nearby village: by the road you can pick limes, lemons, oranges, pomegranates or almonds,
– autumn-winter (by local standards) evenings by the fireplace in the living room: you can watch Netflix or just talk until dawn.
FOR SPORTS
We love sport, especially cycling. If you are too, we get along beautifully. The secret of the polystyrene is that we chose this house also because it is located on a great cycling route, Carretera de la Cabra. We are happy to share our knowledge and knowledge of the area with you. Write to us before your arrival and we will prepare maps for you with recommended cycling and trekking routes (GPX files).
Cycling
The part of Andalusia in which you will find yourself is, fortunately, still not very crowded, a cycling mecca. The conditions for cycling are the best here, regardless of whether you choose road cycling, gravel or maybe DH and MTB. From Algarrobo you can go for shorter loops and demanding routes with significant climbs, for example la Carretera de la Cabra or to the Alpujjarras. We also recommend gravel routes led along gravel paths cut into steep mountain slopes, where with each subsequent kilometer a spacious view of the sea opens.
You can also count on us for tools and accessories that will allow you to safely set off on the road. We have a mini-workshop where you will find:
– pump, tools, service stand,
– spare CO2 cartridges (you will not take them on the plane), inner tubes, tires,
– energy and regenerating drinks, gels, bars,
– food/smoothie mixer,
– water bottles.
We can also offer you: riding with us (we live separately then), renting bikes and guided tours (we have cyclist friends in the area), transporting bikes from/to the airport.
Other sports that you can indulge in in the area are:
– trekking,
– alpine skiing and snowboarding (we send you to the mountains, to Sierra Nevada, to the most exposed ski resort and downhill park in southern Europe),
– ski touring,
– diving,
– climbing,
– ferratas,
– swimming on a SUP,
– windsurfing and kitesurfing (preferably in autumn).
AWAY
Beaching and lounging
You may have ambitious plans to visit Andalusia and check off many points from the list, but when time slows down, as it happens here, the beach and the sea may be the first choice. For lovers of wild sunbathing, we recommend the direction to the west. There, among the steep slopes covered with pine forests, there are tiny beaches hidden in bays, such as Cala el Cañuelo and Cala del Pino. Going east, you will reach Playa Rijana.
Sightseeing and cultural entertainment
Andalusia is magical, and the local climate is inimitable. Rich culture, fascinating history and beautiful architecture will charm you from the first moment.
Granada
It is said that those who have not seen Granada have not seen anything. This historic city, named after the pomegranate fruit, was the center of the last Muslim state on the Iberian Peninsula in the late Middle Ages. The influence of Arab culture can be seen here in architecture and art. You go to Granada to see the scandalously beautiful Alhambra, called the 8th wonder of the world - a Moorish complex of palaces and gardens (be sure to book your visit in advance!), Generalife, the palace of Muslim kings; have a cup of tea in one of the Arab teahouses in Calderería Nueva and watch the sunset in the Albaicín district to the sounds of flamenco.
Seville
It is worth devoting more than one day to visiting the majestic capital of Andalusia, because the multitude of local monuments and museums is simply intimidating. The largest Gothic cathedral in the world combined with a former minaret: the Giralda, the royal palace Alcázar, the Museum of Fine Arts or the Central Archives of the Indies (the most important collection of documents regarding the Spanish administration in the New World and the Philippines) are just some of the many places worth visiting here. In spring, it's interesting to visit the Fería de Abril, an April fair whose tradition dates back to the 19th century.
Cordoba
The third city among the pearls of the Andalusian Golden Triangle attracts with monuments in the Mudéjar style, i.e. with a combination of Islamic and Christian elements. It is best to visit them in spring, because then the whole smells of orange blossoms and jasmine. While here, be sure to see the interior of the Grand Mosque (23,400 m²) or the Barrio de La Judería de Córdoba, the former Jewish quarter where Jews lived between the 10th and 15th centuries.
And when you get tired of big Andalusian cities, find an afternoon or two to wander around the smaller ones - Bubión, Capileira and Pampaneira, Lanjarón, La Calahorra are waiting. If you need more tips, just ask us. We are happy to share our love for this region and our knowledge about it.
