When you've been trying for one place for 20 years, between one decade and the next you finally start to wonder: is it really worth it? Father-in-law, however, answered in the affirmative and sent countless requests over the following years for the opportunity to become the host of the old gamekeeper's lodge, built under the German. He stubbornly sent, and the competitor for the gamekeeper's keys stubbornly hid all these requests. However, someone finally rewarded this stubbornness of the mother-in-law, thanks to which today we invite guests to our Masurian thresholds. We run these thresholds as a family or even in a village. The father-in-law will say good morning from his beloved onion patches, the brother-in-law will bring a Russian banya, and the neighbors will prepare homemade cottage cheese and dumplings on request.
Slowhop, we share two apartments and the gamekeeper's lodge for exclusive use. Apparently, terrace hammocks and a shared sauna are great enough to spend the entire holiday within the boundaries of the backyard. However, once you are on a forest road, you never know where your legs will take you. Maybe to Lake Mamry? Or to Węgorzewo, for the smell of freshly fried bream and perch? Or to the bunkers where Colonel Claus Stauffenberg and a group of conspirators were preparing explosives to assassinate Hitler?
This will be revealed upon arrival. So come. The whole family and a piece of the village invites you.
It all started with an over 100-year-old gamekeeper's lodge hidden in a small forest settlement near Węgorzewo. Today, Janusz's father-in-law lives there, a retired forester who, after years of efforts to take care of this place, is reluctant to leave it for more than a few hours. The two apartments we provide are located in a renovated outbuilding.

In the common spaces of the gamekeeper's lodge there are remnants of hunting traditions. There are no such apartments.
We do not serve breakfast or other meals, but in return we help in obtaining delicious, rural delicacies. When you visit us, ask for dumplings from Mrs. Pierogowa, cottage cheese from her sister - Mrs. Twarogowa, and for bread from Mrs. Ania.
There is quite a large kitchen in the Wilcza Polana apartment, and a very decent kitchenette in Śnie Gajowego. Besides the kettle style obvious, there is also a hob, microwave, fridge, dishwasher and oven. And those who like roasted sausages should be satisfied with the garden grill.
There are some interesting restaurants in the area, a few of which are listed below.
If you like city life, you may actually be disappointed. The morning run to the bus turns into an aimless run through the forest. A lot of towns on the map are three houses on the cross, the memory of which Google Street View shrugs. But if you want to drop everything and hide from the world in the forest, take evening baths in the lake, and spend your days cycling, in a hammock or sledding in winter, Gajówka opens up countless possibilities for you.
#walks
Around us there is a forest, a forest and even more forest, which smoothly turns into fields or ends on the shores of Lake Mamry. The lack of hiking trails means that there are few random walkers here, so sometimes you have the impression that you have this whole forest to yourself.
#Fishing
The first place to use the fishing rod is 300 meters from Gajówka. A little further is the intimate lake Rydzówka and the more popular Mamry.
#Fun and games on site
In the backyard, we throw a frisbee or bounce a shuttlecock in badminton. However, on rainy days we take out board games and cards in the living room. Macao and makale, boring!
#Doing nothing in the jacuzzi
Is there anyone who doesn't like to use the sauna from time to time? Or jump into the jacuzzi on the terrace after a day of swallowing more kilometers on a bike? We do not know such people, so we provide guests with these hedonistic attractions on site for an additional fee. For those willing, it is also possible to rent a Russian banya from my brother-in-law.
#Swimming in the lakes
Only 3 km from us there is a recreation and sports complex with piers, and there is also an option to rent kayaks, water bikes or an Omega boat. You can also visit the quiet, small beach at Lake Silec (11 km by car). And of course there are the vast Mamry!
#Historical tours
History buffs will find themselves in Masurian areas like nowhere else. Bunkers are hidden on the other side of the gamekeeper's forest, and a Masurian canal with historic locks and the ruins of a bridge flows nearby. An ethnographic park stopped by Węgorapa, and a Teutonic castle in Węgorzewo.
#Eating local delicacies
Be it from the housekeepers from the area on the gamekeeper's terrace, or in nearby restaurants and Masurian taverns, overlooking the port.
#Lazing around
Some of our guests get out of bed at 11, slowly prepare breakfast, take a book and return to this bed for the rest of the day. Will you join them?
What’s there for children?
Children who leave us most often have memories of:
- jogging in the woods and the yard
- making mud and sand castles
- swimming in lakes and contests for the longest air-hold under water
- discovering German bunkers
- sledding and skating
- speeding on bikes (we provide a few on the spot, we also have bicycle seats)
- climbing in the rope park in nearby Leśniewo
- tearing off hot heels of homemade bread and spreading them generously with honey
