There was some work with this school. It's been over 10 years for us. About an old building for sale
we found out during one of the motorcycle trips. From the outside, the school looked dignified. We had a lot of work to do inside. We ourselves did not realize how much... We wondered if it was really a good idea to start restoring an old, over 130-year-old Prussian building? However, today, when guests visit us, our friends come to visit us, and the loved ones come to spend time here, we feel that we are in the right place.
The green door will lead you to the rustic interiors of the former school, filled with trinkets, family souvenirs and traces of history, but above all peace and cordiality. You can start the day with a walk to the orchard. Preferably barefoot, before breakfast, walk through the dew. Then let yourself be seduced by a filling breakfast that we prepare for you as a family. We serve our guests homemade spreads, preserves and jams, dandelion syrup made by Edyta, Kamil's homely specialties, Ola's banana pancakes and Czarka's plum pie. We will also have home-made raspberries. As well as care to make your holidays here like at home.
Here life takes on a different pace, color and peace. If you feel this is your vibe, come. We will treat you with tenderness, leave you with a smile and help you experience the Masuria we fell in love with.
Coming to us, head to Wide Ostrów. This is how you will get to Zdor, a village of medieval origin, located on the Sesty Lake, which is a branch of the Śniardwy Lake. Here, at number 13, a red brick house with a red tile roof is waiting for you. The green door will lead you to cozy interiors that used to be filled with school desks. Today there are 7 comfortable rooms, a common kitchen and dining room and a living room with sofas, a library full of books and board games and a projector for evening film screenings.
We offer 5 rooms with bathrooms (showers or bathtubs). We always leave the other 2 at the disposal of our family members. We have prepared double, triple and rooms that can accommodate a family of four. They are all named after the names or roles of people close to us. When arranging them, we thought about our guests and in the decor we tried to refer to their passions, characters or abilities. Therefore, individual interiors differ in decor and climate. They can also surprise with unobvious details, interesting details and family souvenirs. We will be happy to tell you more about all of them. In the building there are also references to the times when it was a primary school - we have an old bench, an inkwell, plates with class numbers and a commemorative photo of students and teachers.
Rooms with bathtubs are: Ola and Kamil's room and Bartosz's room. Bartosz's room is the only one with a balcony. On the ground floor there are: Agnieszka and Kuba's room and Kamil and Ola's room, the other rooms are on the first floor of the house.
Our house stands on a half-hectare plot, a large part of which is an orchard with old varieties of apples and plums. Among the greenery, we have created a lot of corners to sit and a place for a bonfire, and we have hung hammocks among the trees.
Breakfasts are on our plate and we make every effort to ensure that you don't think about your next meal until well into the afternoon. There is a lot of food, and the guiding principle is that the plates should be: healthy, local and tasty. We bring fresh vegetables and fruits in season straight from the vegetable garden, we close summer and autumn in jars, we have homemade cold cuts, we smoke fish and bake cakes ourselves. We serve you delicious cheeses, spreads, chutneys, jams and jams. We have our own dandelion syrup, wine vinegar from our own apples and our own raspberry vodka. We cook as a family and we like it very much.
At your disposal there will be: an electric kettle, an overflow coffee maker, a fridge with a freezer compartment and various types of dishes. You will find them in the kitchenette, which is at your disposal - however, there is no possibility to cook meals there.
In our beautiful corner of Masuria, we have meadows for you to smell, forests for walking and lakes for swimming. But most of all, we have a house with history and soul, where we will welcome you and take care of your well-being with tenderness.
In the old orchard we hung hammocks and prepared places to hang out. You can hide here with a book that you haven't had time to read for a long time or one taken from our library. We will be happy to tell you about the history of our place and spend time with you, we will treat you with homemade raspberry soup, and in the evening we will light a bonfire together. Or we'll just be nearby if you need some distance.
Right behind our gate runs the Masurian Bicycle Loop, an over 300-kilometre loop running through the Land of the Great Masurian Lakes. It leads along asphalt, gravel, dirt and forest roads. There are special places equipped with infrastructure for cyclists and 9 observation towers.
Wide Ostrów - once the largest of the 8 islands on Lake Śniardwy, today a peninsula connected to the mainland by a causeway - is 2.5 km away (it's a 45-minute walk, a 10-minute bike ride or a little longer by car). Until 1944, it was only accessible by ferry. There was a village on the island, today it is an uninhabited area. You will get there by a dirt road through the fields called Odolaska. We will show you the way.
If your stay with us touches a summer Saturday, you will be able to go to Saturday in Sad. It is a local fair of good food, which takes place in orchards in various Masurian towns. This is a great opportunity to try locally produced food, talk to its producers and blissfully spend time discovering new flavors.
