The history of this area is a story of disappearance. Post-war depopulation was 97% here, and it's good that at least the bats have moved into the abandoned tunnels. However, if we go back a few pages, we will end up in the mining village of Johannesberg at the foot of Śnieżnik. We would go to one of the mines with a pickaxe on our shoulder. They sped up their pace slightly at the school, from which a group of children had just fallen, and nodded to the blacksmith behind the fence. It was not the second Wilhelmsthal or the Landeck health resort, but it was still life here. Franz Lindenthal tilled the land, Karl Werner was logging, and Paul Wolf was making a quiet retirement by sharing breakfast with his cat "last time today!". However, in 1946 the place of Johannesberg was taken by Janów Góra, which is still present on maps. And the whole life was closed to a dozen new residents.
Not much has changed here since then. Apparently, a ski center was built behind the mountain, a lookout tower was built on Śnieżnik, and an underground route was built in Kletno. The Kłodzko Land shakes off the many years of dust, but little of this noise reaches us. Because in Friendówka, everything revolves around silence. We do not organize parties, we have 400 meters to our closest neighbors and we invite only children over 10 years of age. In two apartments - built entirely by us - a total of up to eight guests will sleep comfortably. For your privacy, each of them has a dining room with a kitchenette and bathrooms. Gustaw the goat or the almost tame deer Felek will keep unobtrusive company over breakfast in the garden.
Pack your favorite slippers, a good book and come for real silence.
We are waiting with homemade bread.
We wanted to live high. The Karkonosze Mountains turned out to be too crowded, the Bieszczady Mountains are quite distant, and the Kłodzko Land somehow just right. During one of the many searches for a place for a house, we were intrigued by the path leading upstairs. We followed in her footsteps, saw the old ruins and knew that this was it. After a year of attempts, we managed to buy the plot and live on it, although initially only in a tent. We built the friend's ball ourselves, without the help of professionals. Every stone, every brick - it's all our job.
Generally, we are a bit like a silence zone in Pendolino, the wagon of which is stuck somewhere near Śnieżnik. Around it there is a meadow with corncrakes and orchids. There is a brook, you can also see the forest from the windows, and the closest neighbors are 400 meters from us. They also rent rooms and invite them to each other without children, so we felt a bit of a zone free from little people in the village.
We have 2 apartments for guests. There are kitchenettes, a cozy dining room, a bathroom and an open bedroom. They allow for complete independence, but if necessary, we live next door, so we will always come to your aid. You can - and should - spend your free time outside, for example in a quiet garden.
Each apartment has its own basic kitchenette. For Slowhop guests, delicious bread baked by me will also be available on site. Within a radius of 10 km there are shops, both smaller and larger. Fresh eggs, honey, tinctures and herbs can usually be found at Maria's in Gierałtów Gallery on the Trail (12.6 km), where they share shelves with souvenirs from local artists. In Sienna, under the Mała Gubałówka ski lift, there is a shepherd's hut with oscypek and bundz made on the spot. The open-air museum Gottwaldówka operates from April to October, where you can buy traditional wholemeal bread on Saturdays from approx. 11:00.
For years, the Puchaczówka restaurant has been collecting warm opinions from nearby restaurants (in high season, in hot hours, you will probably have to wait for a table). For fresh fish and more, it is worth visiting the Nad Stawami farm in Kletno. When visiting the area of Jagodna, do not miss a visit to the shelter. Iconic pastries can be found in the Marianna Café in Międzygórze. And in Lądek Zdrój itself, it is best to make a culinary tour, starting with drinking coffee on a swing at Coffee Ride and ending with a visit to the Creativity Cafe under Adam. In both, concerts and other artistic events take place from time to time.
So much is said now about the increasingly diverse forms of tourism. There is culinary, hiking and sightseeing tourism. We add something from ourselves: the tourism of silence. We have several varieties and accompanying attractions here. Quiet walks in the forest visible from the windows, quiet conversations on (un) important topics, quiet breakfasts in the company of Gustaw or Felek.
You can also experience silence more actively, so it's worth knowing that:
- there are great bicycle routes on Czarna Góra and around Rudka
- the road from the house leads straight to the forest
- we have a total of 5 hiking trails in the vicinity
- there is an underground tourist route leading to the old Uranium mine nearby
- in Kletno there is the longest cave in the Sudetes, open to the public
- it is worth spending one day climbing to the scenic Śnieżnik, descending for lunch to Międzygórze, and then returning home (route for the more ambitious - 24 km to go)
- in winter, you can venture into the forgotten Bialskie Mountains, which have great routes for cross-country skiers
- Międzygórze and its architecture, resembling an Austrian town, are delightful all year round (for nice souvenirs visit the Kotlin gallery, and for a great cake at the Marianna Cafe)
- for the sleepy mood of the spa town, it is worth visiting Lądek-Zdrój
You can find interesting events in the calendar on the website of the Center for Culture and Recreation in Lądek (https://ckirladek.pl/layout-b/). You will find there, among others concerts under the clouds, poets' nights or local flea markets. From April to October, the Gottwaldówka Open-Air Museum is open, where you can not only see folk items, but also take part in bread baking workshops.
What’s there for children?
Due to the love of silence, we invite children over 10 years of age. Next to the house, we have attractive both for adults and older children: ski slopes, hiking trails, singletrack (bicycle routes), uranium mine and caves.
What’s there for employees?
We are an oasis of peace and quiet, where not many people reach, but the internet has found us. The large table in the living room is next to the kitchenette. You can sit at the table on a chair/on a sofa/in a wicker armchair. Each apartment has a balcony with a table and chairs.
