The land we live on looks like someone has sprinkled flour on it. The same variety of soil - chalky, is in Champagne. Chardonnay is successfully grown there, and we were told that it was a strain that would not survive near Chełm because of the climate. Not at all. Even though there were years when our wine broke and the grapevines froze, we also know that Chardonnay near Chełm can rock.
We've probably made all possible mistakes in running the vineyard, so we can tell you a lot about how not to do it. We started ours while still living in Warsaw and looking after it with great effort. But we have the feature that failures flow down us like wine down the walls of the lamp. In the meantime, we finished oenological and agricultural studies, I got the WSET3 certificate, and today we are waiting for our fifth Chardonnay, which we will gladly give you. You will be able to taste them on the terrace of the house that my grandfather once built. We have just renovated it, arranged it and invite you to visit us - for wine stories, bicycle trips and walks on the chalky soil of our Lublin region.
We invite you to the house located in our habitat by the vineyard. This is the family land of my grandparents, and the house was just built by Grandpa Czaus. Now we have renovated it and arranged it nicely to host you. So that you can see how quiet and peaceful it is here and taste our wines from the vineyard that we are still developing.
The cottage has:
– 55 m²,
– 3 bedrooms:
· downstairs: with a 140 cm bed and a work desk,
· upstairs - green mezzanine - with a 180 cm mattress and a work desk,
· upstairs - white mezzanine - with a 160 cm mattress, a work desk and a telescope to watch the stars.
In the seating area downstairs you will find a sofa, an armchair, a goat and a TV.
In front of the house there is a terrace with lounge furniture, where you can sit by the grill in the evenings or eat leisurely breakfasts in the summer.
Our area consists of a vineyard, a habitat where we also live in a separate house, and a hectare of field behind the fence, where one day we will also plant vines.
We live next door on a daily basis - we work remotely, so if you need help or tips on what to do in the area, just talk to us. Our house is about 100 m from the house you will be renting, but it is separated by trees and facing the other way. So everyone has a space for themselves here and you don't have to worry about privacy.
The sanctuary is guarded by the dog Kiper, whom you will see in the photos. This is a dog who loves all people (even the vet) and other animals. Feel free to come to us with your kids and your pets.
If you want to work with us, no problem. The internet works flawlessly and there is a work desk in each of the bedrooms.
The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need for cooking. We don't just have a coffee machine.
We will be happy to handle country eggs for you, and when it is high season: home-grown vegetables and fruits (not always available). Just let us know you want them.
We can also recommend local restaurants: Pstrągowo the closest, and in Chełm Kwiat Paproci and the Edels Restaurant.
The main attractions with us are rest, peace and quiet. You don't come here for crazy adventures (unless you include testing our wines and verifying what we got this year - it can be an adventure!). But seriously, we know wine, because since we started our adventure with the vineyard, we have learned everything (we have the WSET3 certificate, and I graduated from oenology studies at the Jagiellonian University). We will be happy to tell you about viticulture, wine production, wine tasting, we can also conduct training.
In addition, you can:
– read books in a hammock or on a lounger,
– play badminton in the garden,
- kick the ball
– observe the stars through a telescope at night,
– arrange an evening bonfire (we can light it for you),
- play board games,
– ride a bike around the area (2 adult bikes and 3 children's bikes are waiting for you to rent)
– go to the beach at the bathing beach in Żółtańce, 4 km from here, it is a great place to spend a day by the water.
We have nice cycling routes here. The Green Velo trail runs nearby, and we personally recommend:
– a 10-kilometre trip to Chełm – on the spot we will suggest you 2 picturesque trails, you can also travel them on foot,
– a 50-kilometer trip to Zamość with beautiful views along the way and return by train or overnight stay in this city.
What else can you do in the area? In your place we would see:
– Chełm Chalk Underground – with a guide, you can visit an unusual labyrinth: the remains of a medieval chalk mine. For hundreds of years, the inhabitants of the city were engaged in obtaining chalk - they dug tunnels under their houses and thus created a multi-level network of labyrinths.
– Ravines in Stary Majdan – you have probably heard of the ravine in Kazimierz Dolny or Nałęczów, but maybe you are not familiar with the picturesque ravine in Stary Majdan. It is a route that is about 2.5 km long and can be covered in about 70 minutes. There are rare and protected species of plants.
– Zamość – a city inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, erected by Jan Zamoyski. They are called the Polish pearl of the Renaissance. Be sure to see the Zamość market square with the oldest pharmacy operating in Poland (from the beginning of the 17th century). It is also worth visiting the exhibition of historical costumes, the best-preserved late-Renaissance synagogue in Poland, or the house where Marek Grechuta was born.
– Poleski National Park – visit it in autumn to see beautiful heaths, and in the second half of August to see cranes getting ready to leave. The Polesie National Park is rich in educational and nature trails (we especially recommend Perehod), observation towers for bird watching, and above all, amazing views of peat bogs, meadows, lakes and forests.
And remember that you can always talk to us and ask for recommendations. We will be happy to recommend you trips and pleasant places in the area, taking into account your needs.
What’s there for children?
We have a large green area here, a sprawling walnut with climbing branches, soccer goals, and a bonfire site. We also have 3 children's bikes of different sizes for rent. And Kiper's dog will surely be delighted with a playful company.
And one more interesting fact: I can organize Korean language lessons for older children - I am a master of Korean studies :)
What’s there for employees?
The perfect place to work remotely. Super fast fiber optic internet, two desks overlooking the greenery - it makes you want to work!
