The desire for a place of my own that provides holistic well-being took up residence in me many years ago in Pennsylvania. Over time, it matured, and finally made me quit my current job and follow my dream. One day in May, while driving around the area in search of a plot of land, I came across a local store. There, my conversation with a real estate agent was overheard by Mr. Tomasz, who offered to sell me his property. My husband's scouting past made it possible to locate her in a jiffy, and my jaw dropped lower and lower with excitement when, on the way to the place, we crossed the ravine leading from Wierzchoniów to Witoszyn. This lush greenery, these hills cut with loess ravines, this piece of forest with trees that you can climb, made me decide to create a space that brings bliss and allows you to experience regenerating rest.
At the planning stage, I fell in love with the green architecture straight from Taschen's albums. Images of grass-covered roofs, houses partly embedded in the ground, and forms revolving following the sun were painted in my head. But we have a village here! So a new one stood in the place of the old barn, but not modern, but resembling a traditional one. In the interiors embodying the concept of hygge, there are waiting for you: a common space with a fireplace, a spacious terrace immersed in greenery, an intimate workshop room and five cozy bedrooms. We are surrounded by a meadow mown only once a year (thanks to which it produces as much oxygen as a forest), a garden and trees, and one of the loess ravines begins right next to the house. In addition to the admiration raised in honor of nature, one can also hear murmurs of satisfaction from filling breakfasts composed of local products.
I invite you to a place where all things happen at their own pace, and you can experience peace from A to Zieleni.
Our habitat is surrounded by the Kazimierz Landscape Park and hidden among the forested hills and loess ravines of the Lublin region. We created them in the place where the farm used to be. The main building was erected where the barn used to stand and refers to it with its shape. The architectural assumptions put merging with nature in the first place, it was also important to refer to the local art of construction. We built the house with respect for the surrounding nature and the environment. It is year-round, heated by a heat pump.
A graphite, wooden façade with the addition of Kazimierz stone covers a multi-storey house with luminous interiors, built on a slope. Its heart is a spacious common space with a seating area and fireplace, dining room and kitchen, and a terrace. The interiors are calm and characterized by subdued colors and natural materials (wood, linen and cotton). The space is thought out so that nothing distracts you and does not distract you from rest. Some of the furniture, after being renovated, has a second life here. Some were made locally, some elements come from boards left over from an old barn.
In the attic there are:
– 2-person BŁOGOSTAN with two 90 cm wide beds that can be combined into one, a bathroom with a bathtub and a shower, and a terrace in the trees with a view of the meadow and the nearby habitat,
– two triple rooms (SILENCE and PEACE) with three beds 90 cm wide, which can be freely configured, a bathroom with a shower and a terrace with a view of the trees.
Each of the rooms is 23 m².
From the common space, you go down to the mezzanine floor, where there is a large workshop room, and on the lower level there are bedrooms, from which you can go out barefoot into the morning dew. It's WELL-BEING and JOY, perfect for 2 people. Each with two 90 cm wide beds that can be put together and a bathroom with a shower. Our own exercise room has warm oak parquet flooring and a scenic view of the valley. Mats are waiting on site.
The beds in the bedrooms, created by a local carpenter, have wooden frames, but they can be freely combined and combined with each other, thanks to the wheels in their legs. Under them are drawers that become bedside tables.
We have over a hectare of land here, with its own forest and ravine, natural meadow and garden. There are three different roads leading to us: an asphalt road that turns into a gravel road and two leading through asphalt-covered gorges, which can be quite a surprise. This is the moment when the eyes open in amazement and the jaws start to drop. It only gets better :)
In our opinion, there are many beautiful promises in the words "sit down to the table". The opportunity to get to know new flavors, new people, get to know those we already know, and take a closer look at ourselves. We could talk endlessly about the importance of the kitchen in our lives. We are what we eat after all. We can argue about it anywhere, including in the kitchen. You must know about ours that it is healthy, vegetarian and based on local products. On the tables you can find: cow's cheese from Mrs. Grażynka from Witoszyn, eggs from Mrs. Edytka from Wojciechów, vegetables from Mrs. Lucynka from Celejów, goat cheese from the factory "By Kózka". I get to know the area, I search, I choose so that what goes to our table satisfies the body and feeds the senses. We invite you for breakfast included in the price of your stay.
Our plates include, among others: spreads (made of roasted carrot, pumpkin, beans with roasted zucchini and lemon zest), lettuces, buffalo tomatoes served on labneh, eggs on grilled Roman lettuce, shakshoukas, brioches and onions baked by us. Whenever possible, we shower them with edible flowers, because we like to feed them not only well, but also beautifully.
The hygge season lasts all year round in Witoszyn. In atmospheric and comfortable interiors, surrounded by greenery, you can practice the art of achieving inner balance. Our standard habitat allows you to hide and hide, communing with nature that forces its way through the windows and surrounds us. And sometimes this is enough to fully regenerate, feel blissful and experience well-being.
The essence of Witoszyn is space, lots of space. On an area of over one hectare, you will enjoy a natural meadow, mowed only once a year (did you know that such a meadow produces as much oxygen as a forest?), which deer like to run into. We also have a piece of our own forest, where you can find various species of mushrooms, including black mushrooms (they are edible and very tasty when they are young, closed and entirely white). You can enjoy the space of the garden, where you can take out sun loungers, and terraces with an endless view of nature. During the glaciations, the wind brought here loess covers of up to 30 meters. The loess is prone to washing away, so it has been dissected by countless ravines. One of them also belongs to our habitat and starts right next to the house. Long walks, during which you absorb the beauty of the area or take a forest bath, are everyday life here.
The surroundings of Witoszyn are best explored on your own. I will show you paths where you may not meet anyone if you look for it. They all lead among forested hills and numerous ravines. In the vicinity of Bochotnica their density is the highest in Europe and exceeds 10 km per square kilometer. On the other side of the road there is a forest that you can walk around in gorges. Going down to Witoszyn, you will come across Potok Witoszyński (called the Green Ribbon), a tributary of the Bystra River, which flows along the village. There are numerous springs on it, you can also look at the beavers or at least the buildings they erect. In the crystal clear and icy (about 9.5 degrees) waters, you can meet rainbow trout.
There are several vineyards in the area, which you can reach on foot. I will show you the way to them.
For rainy afternoons, lazy evenings and for any other occasion, we have a common space with comfortable sofas, where you can enjoy the glow and warmth of the fireplace. You can reach for books from the shelves of our library or indulge in inspiring conversations at the table, which is also great for board games.
Our space is conducive to tranquility, meditation and yoga practices. The house has a spacious and quiet exercise room that you can use. Our guests also like to train on the terrace and on the lush green grass.
Witoszyn is located 8 km from Kazimierz Dolny. In the summer, there (and in Janowiec, located on the other side of the Vistula River) the Dwa Brzegi Film and Art Festival is held, which is worth visiting. The city with its Renaissance market square is full of charming cafes, art galleries and streets where you can get lost. In Kazimierz, be sure to visit the art studio and Sarzyński bakery, where Kazimierz roosters are baked. You can also go on a trip to Janowiec and Nałęczów, and go a bit further - to Kozłówka or Lublin.
In winter you can be tempted not only by beautiful views, but also by three nearby ski lifts: in Rąblów, in Kazimierz Dolny and in Parchatka.
