If they ever resume Indiana Jones movies, I'm sure they'll shoot them in the Kaczawskie Foothills. Only the choice of the main plot raises doubts, because there are many possibilities. It can be, for example, a story about the Schwenckfeldists who lived in the surrounding communes, but in the 18th century had to flee from persecution to the United States. Or about medieval crosses hidden in the woods. One is unique on a European scale. The imagination is also stimulated by gold from the gold-bearing Kaczawa river and the Nazi treasure, supposedly hidden under the Wielisławka mountain in 1945. As for the fight scenes, I recommend the raw rocks of Kingsajz, 15 meters high, or one of the ruins of a church or castle. There are dozens of them here, so there's plenty to choose from. And the chase along the basalt steps of Ostrzyca, i.e. our Polish volcano Mount Fuji. And that's how the Oscars are ours.

Four generations of my family have been associated with the Kaczawskie Foothills. My grandparents were the first to get here, bringing with them a lot of uncertainty and my several-month-old dad in a bathtub. They lived in a post-German farm with a barn from 1911 and an even older house. I invite you to this barn, which I rent exclusively. Two bedrooms - including one specially designed for children - and a mezzanine can comfortably accommodate up to 6 guests. On the other hand, even a regiment could fit in the yard.

It gets cozy already in the vestibule, where you can not only hang your clothes on a hanger, but also sit in an armchair with a book. Then you go to the living room connected to the kitchen and dining room. Downstairs there is also a bathroom with a SPA zone, where I can organize for you, for example, a kobido massage. Going up the stairs, you will see an open mezzanine with a sofa bed for 2 people and a TV. From there you will go to two separate bedrooms and a bathroom. With full occupancy of beds and sofas, the house can accommodate 12 people. However, it will be more comfortable for up to 10 guests, without treating the living room on the ground floor as an additional bedroom.

Before arriving, just keep in mind that the rest of the farm is still standing, but in the form of secured ruins. Maybe someday I'll throw myself at the sun with a hammer and renovate it too? Who knows... For now, they are a great scenery for playing and an incentive to exercise your imagination :)

In the house there is a fully equipped kitchen at your disposal, but in the garden there is a vegetable garden and a fruit garden. In terms of food, however, I have much more to offer you. In fact, the neighbors have:
- fresh milk in replacement bottles
- homemade butter and cheese
- country bread
- eggs from happy hens
- preserves
- real honeys

I can organize the whole thing, for example, in the form of breakfast baskets. When it comes to more dinner dishes, I give the plates to Anna Komsta, the author of the book "Tales of the Table. From the East to the West". Mrs. Anna is famous for her kitchen full of delicious, borderland sentiments and she will be happy to prepare something for you. One of my friends cooks a great Asian dish - she can also bring it to you.

For me, the most valuable thing about this place is the view. From the windows of the house you can see meadows and the border of the Bóbr Valley landscape park, and hills, taken straight from Tolkien's Shire, add idyll. The first glance at the map, however, may give the wrong impression that only this idyllic view we have to show. Meanwhile, much, much more is happening with us!

ROUTE OF EXTINCED VOLCANOES - Ostrzyca

Ostrzyca is the highest hill of the Kaczawskie Foothills. Although it has a volcanic origin (which can be clearly seen from its characteristic shape), it is not a dormant volcano, but the so-called nekiem. Well, yes: we have a volcano with a chimney, which thanks to the lava creates a crater. When the lava solidifies in the chimney, the nek is formed. Over time, erosion processes can lead to the fact that the rocks forming the cone will break down, and only a harder neck will remain of the old volcano. Concluding this geography lesson, I will add that a tourist trail leads to Ostrzyca, ending with stone stairs. Once, on the slopes of the hill, Home Army soldiers, called the band of Black Janek, were hiding. From Dłużec, the entire route to the top and back is about 12 km.

BOBRO VALLEY LANDSCAPE PARK

This is just a picturesque gem that stretches from the Jeleniogórska Valley, through the Kaczawskie Mountains, to the Izerskie Foothills. If you go to the map.cz website and change the version to "outdoor" at the top, you will see how many interesting rocks, ruins or hillforts are in the park. There is also an old railway viaduct over the Bóbr, which Tom Cruise was supposed to blow up in Mission Impossible. These are beautiful walking areas, although still little discovered by the wider public.

THE SCHWENCKFELDIST TRIP

Caspar Schwenckfeld von Ossig was a religious reformer who began his "theological career" as a Lutheran. However, after years of study and direct confrontation with Martin Luther, he established his own doctrine. Its basic assumptions, such as the ban on carrying weapons or the claim that only consciously received baptism (and therefore not in infancy) has value, led to the persecution of Caspar and his followers.

In the nearby town of Twardocice you will find a monument erected in the place of the former burial place of the Schwenckfelders, at the so-called the cattle path (Schwenckfeldists were not allowed to bury their dead on holy ground). The monument was founded in 1863 by the descendants of the Schwenckfelders who once lived here, who had to flee from increasingly terrible persecution in the 18th century. With the help of the Dutch Mennonites, they got to America and are there to this day (the number of followers of Caspar's thought is estimated at less than 3,000 people). In Twardocice, there are also the ruins of a church, which some associate with Schwenckfeldists, and others with Evangelicals who come here to preach from Silesia.

THE TRAIL OF STONE CROSSES

The trail is approx. 14 km long and takes you on a journey in the footsteps of 7 medieval crosses. Some of them are penitential crosses, also known as reconciliation crosses, which the killers funded as part of an agreement with the victim's family. According to tradition, the murder weapon was drawn on such crosses. Walking along the trail, you can see the carving of a spear, a sword, and even a spirit level and a trowel. The latter two are located on one cross and are unique on a European scale - no other stone cross with such engravings has been discovered so far.

SINGLETRACK

We have three singletracks nearby. Both the "Zielonki" and "Pod Ostrzycą" routes are considered very easy and pleasant, perfect for the first encounter with this type of bicycle trails. More demanding is ''Ostrzyca'', where there are already rounded hills and narrowings.

LWÓWEC SWITZERLAND

This is our own little Szczeliniec, a group of several sand towers. The walk with the start and finish at the free car park located under the rocks will take about an hour. It is worth going up for the interesting views, although unfortunately a few years ago colorful barriers were put in this place, spoiling the charm a bit.
