The Montaña Roja ("Red Mountain") in the very south of Tenerife was highly respected by the natives of the Canaries, the Guanches. Another height very close is the Montaña Bocinegro, an outcrop of the Red mountain. At the time of the conquest by the Spanish at the beginning of the 15th century, very little has been reported about that area. Perhaps witches of the indigenous people held their coven by the relatively calm beach Playa La Tejita and bathed in the ocean under a full moon.
What is known for a fact is that there were water sports and games at El Médano, a town in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona. At the Montaña Bocinegro it must have been ideal because calmer seas wash up at Playa La Tejita. After the collection of the harvest during the first full moon of August, the Guanches celebrated “Beñesmen”/”Beñesmer”, their most important festival that was considered the “New Year”. On that day they thanked and asked their gods by performing the ritual of breaking the gánigo – small handmade clay pots – full of milk and honey, and the ritual of green candles. Elements of the festivity were later Christianized, but various groups today still have cultural events to mark the Beñesmen/-mer.

I have been working in hotel accommodation and tourist apartments for more than 15 years. In the past year I have started a business in which I manage tourist homes, rural houses and tourist apartments. Casa el Escaño is the nicest one of them. From guests our team has received only good feedback so far, but we work like a locomotive to keep it like that. We start little by little, giving priority to the quality of service to the guests.
