Frýdlant nad Ostravicí is often referred to as the gateway to the Beskydy Mountains. It fits perfectly into the Slow Travel concept for us, because its name was created by combining two German words: Land (land) and, above all, Frieden (peace). The past of this city may sound rather unpoetic. Frýdlant became famous for its iron production - the blows of hammers resounded, scorching heat radiated from the foundries. And from the surrounding forests, instead of birdsong, you could hear a relentless staccato, flawlessly played by the axes of the local woodcutters. And yet Frýdlant nad Ostravicí is full of charm. The proof is, for example, "Flower" in the park near the post office.

This is a statue of the internationally recognized Czech artist Magdalena Jetelová, who has been living in Germany since 1985. As was common in Czechoslovakia in the 1970s and 1980s, public space was filled with experimental sculptures by great artists. Every hospital, housing estate or park created during this period is decorated with one or more original and often monumental sculptures. The contracting authority for these contracts was the state. The artists thus had to deal with the task themselves, which aimed to depict the (often hated by them) ideals of the Communist Party. And so the artists decided to wrap realistic, straightforward themes in an abstract guise. In this way, an art direction unseen in the world was born, which is worth your attention.

Slow down in Frýdlant nad Ostravicí with a view of the majestic Beskydy peaks. Discover the beauty of the Neo-Renaissance town hall by the architect Židlický, a rare baroque column with a statue of the Virgin Mary of Carmel, and smell the normalizing Flower of Magdalena Jetelová. And then set off through the famous gate into the unfettered nature of the Beskydy Mountains.

Our cottage still smells of newness. The reconstruction went well from the floor to the roof. All this according to our years of experience and wishes expressed by our lovely guests.

KITCHEN & COMMON ROOM

The heart of every proper cottage is a kitchen with a beautiful dining table. The dining room is connected to the living room with a sofa. In ours, however, attention is still drawn to the fireplace stove, in which you can gaze into the hypnotizing flickering flames. Of course you can. We chopped the wood and stacked it right next to the fireplace so you don't have to work.

2 BEDROOMS

Both bedrooms are located upstairs. In the larger one, we placed a double bed, a sofa bed with a coffee table and a TV. Even in the smaller bedroom you will find a double bed, even if the room is more modest in space.

2 BATHROOMS

Don't be ashamed that you want to spend long hours in the bathroom with us. In the elegant upstairs bathroom, you can take a hot bath in a freestanding, designer bathtub. However, this is a weak brew compared to what the downstairs bathroom has in store for you. That's where we hid a genuine Finnish sauna. Yes it's right.

GARDEN & TERRACE

The extensive garden is fenced, so you don't have to worry about uninvited visitors. Children run around here and have fun on the trampoline. In the evening, you can toast burritos here and listen to the sounds of the Ostravice river, which flows behind the cottage. A beautiful seating area with tables is also hidden on the terrace with a wooden pergola.

The large social space on the ground floor serves as a living room, dining room and kitchen. You can boldly prepare appetizers and main course at the same time on two separate kitchen units. The kitchen is modern and clearly equipped, so you shouldn't miss anything.

Sit together at the beautiful dining table by the window and enjoy the moments together. Our garden and river bank invite you to have a picnic, weather permitting. In the evening, everyone settles down around the fire, grill some burritos, or throw some slaw and vegetables on the grill. There is a pleasant wine shop right in Frýdlant & pivotéka, so spice up your evening with a refined glass.

There are a few very good restaurants in the area, so if you want to take a break from the stove, you have plenty of options to enjoy.

We have good news for sports enthusiasts. In the surroundings there are wonderful cycle paths, hiking trails, slopes of various difficulties and cross-country tracks.

You can cycle around the Šance water reservoir, for example. The route itself measures about 30 kilometers and leads along a paved road along the plains, so if you approach the reservoir by car, even children can easily manage the route. On the way you will see the Masaryk Valley, Staré Hamry and the monument to Maryčka Magdonová.

In the nearby golf & in the Ostravice ski resort, you can enjoy sports in winter and summer. And if you accidentally overdo it with the activity, remember that we have a beautiful Finnish sauna at the cottage. It regenerates the muscles once or twice and you can continue exercising the next day.

Go on foot to the highest mountain of the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy. 400 meters from the cottage, you can jump onto the Okolo Tisu educational trail, which is followed by the Lysohorský bestiář educational trail. So you will arrive at the top of Lysá hora a little sweaty, but properly educated! And when the sky is cloudless, you can see all the way to the Tatras from here.

If you are a fan of the anarchist rioter Petr Bezruč, you can visit his cabin. The Silesian Regional Museum has kept the interior of the log cabin in its original form, which was designed by the poet himself. You can thus walk in his footsteps and touch the past of the Beskydy Mountains, which are so closely connected with his work. There is also a woodshed in close proximity to the log cabin, in which the museum exhibition is located. And by the way, Petr Bezruč regularly climbed Lysa hora even in his 80s. So don't be embarrassed...

The Beskydy Mountains are ideal for trips with children. You can go "on the bear's paws", which are color-marked routes, also suitable for children. For example, you can handle the green "hare" trail even with a stroller.

In the summer, you can go to the nearby swimming pools with your children. The closest one is located in Frýdlant nad Ostravicí. But if you prefer a place where you can frolic in chemical-free water, we recommend the beautiful Bečva biotope, where water purification is the concern of cleverly planted aquatic plants.

The rope maze Opičárna is 7 kilometers away from the cottage, and the tricky routes full of obstacles will torment not only children, but also adults. If you complete more than one route, your muscles will make themselves known in the evening and the next day. Although we have the sauna!
