Between Olomouc and Ostrava, you'll find a lot of things unloved by mass tourism. Although it may not seem so at first glance...

One of such rarities and historical monuments is the Wesselsky Water Mill. Today, Mr. Jaroslav and his wife Věra reign here. They are rare people who decided to give a more than 500-year-old dilapidated homestead, together with the mill, a second life. And they took a difficult task on their shoulders - step by step, for more than 25 years, they have been patiently repairing, saving and enhancing this piece of history.

If we wanted to go back in time to the time when the whole story began, we would have to go back to 1571. That's when we would find the first mention of the mill in Loučky. We do not want to tell you about the fate of the mill or the people during these five centuries. We will leave that to Mr. Jaroslav and Mrs. Věra, who will tell you these complicated stories. About the first millers or how the Wesselský mill became the Pazder mill. About the bitter fate of its owners during and after the war. It will portray a real story in front of you that even Netflix wouldn't dare to.

And even though they would like to see the reconstruction of the entire homestead at a successful end and for everything to be repaired and also modified, Mr. Jaroslav says for now: "We are only halfway there". Please don't look for perfection, colorful plasters or ideal order like in an English movie here. Instead, step back in time, walk through an orchard with old varieties, listen to the clatter of a watermill or listen to true stories.

Who wants to experience something different, alive, full of history - become a part of the extraordinary story of the Wesselsky mill, at least for a while. Together with the hosts, create the atmosphere to continue the story and save this special place.

Well, where else but in the heart of the old farmhouse and mill!
And there is not only a mill, there is much more.
In this mill, in addition to the exposition and parts accessible to the public, the owners have hidden private rooms and suites that they invite you to.

Climb the wooden stairs and travel back in time!

Theoretically, we could divide the apartment into two parts. The lower part is a veranda, where you can enjoy a romantic sitting above the water surface in the warm months. Kingfishers may fly under the porch floor, fish will swim in the stream, and the morning sun will shine into your cup of coffee while you have breakfast. And even if it's a tempting idea and you're already thinking about where to sit, come on! Further stairs lead you directly to the main part of the apartment, where you can enjoy life in the mill as if cut out from the beginning of the 20th century. And, of course, the spaces and period furniture will also correspond to this.

In modest square meters you will find:
- kitchen with period furniture and Siemens electric stove from 1920
- a small room/bedroom with a bunk bed, where you can also sleep with 2 adults and 2 children
- bathroom with bathtub and toilet; running water for heating

Since the entire building is largely built of wood, we must and want to pay maximum attention to fire safety - that's why smoking is prohibited in the entire area of the water mill. Indeed throughout, that is that a possible cigarette is only possible on the main road.

ORCHARD WITH OLD VARIETIES
Who doesn't get lazy, gets green! In this case it was no different. The mill and outbuildings are joined by a large plot of land of 9 hectares with other outbuildings, a field where vegetables and vines are grown and on which an orchard with old varieties of apples, pears, plums, cherries and other trees and shrubs has grown. We have to tell you that they planted a total of 1000 of them. And while they may not look huge now due to their youth, close your eyes and imagine what they will look like in a few years.

SHOP
You will also find a small shop here. Come here for a coffee, a pleasant chat or just to see what seasonal goodies nature has brought us. For example, apples from our orchard, nuts, maybe even potatoes or maybe eggs. Feel free to ask what goodies are up for grabs. :)

PICNIC
Since the surrounding landscape is really beautiful (we like to say it's like a canvas), try to think about a picnic. To make your picnic experience and packing perfect, we have prepared a real wicker picnic basket for you. You will find all the essentials such as ceramic plates, cups, stainless steel cutlery, a wine opener, salt and pepper shakers, as well as plenty of storage space for food. You can buy them yourself or we will buy them for you according to your requirements. Alternatively, we can replenish them for a fee from our own resources, depending on seasonal availability.

We can think of two things you can try right away. Or actually three.

1. In the warm months you can sit on the veranda above the dam and listen to the hypnotic sound of the water and the mill wheel.
2. Pack a picnic blanket with your picnic basket and go relax somewhere in the meadow, laze around and let the sun shine.
3. Take advantage of being right in the heart of the 500-year-old mill and homestead and take a tour. They have some really rare pieces here and are happy to tell you not only about them but also about the history of this ancient mill. A mill drive with a water wheel, a barn connected by a transmission to the mill, a yard with stables and stables, an exchange house and other buildings await you. Are you ready?

You can easily reach Hynčice by bike, where Johann Gregor Mendel's birthplace and museum are located. Does that tell you something? He was the most famous native of the Oder region, the founder of genetics and the discoverer of the basic laws of heredity.

In the spring, pick up a herbarium and collect herbs for tea. We grow hollyhocks, primroses, daisies... If you prefer more exotic flowers, head to Královka, a local orchid reserve.

And you know what? You don't have to do anything at all... Sit in the backyard, listen to the clatter of the mill and clear your head.

Maybe our apartment is not fully adapted for the smallest guests and we are not ultra-modern equipped, but bring them along. At least it will take them away from their phones and computers for a while and show them how life used to be when wifi and social media didn't rule the world.

Maybe they'll meet Rarášek the sprite and we'll show them how to make a slate sheet. Together, follow the footsteps of ancient times and discover period objects and their uses. Let yourself be drawn into the story of how sacks full of grain were once carried to the miller so that they could take away the ground flour. Check that the mill wheel is turning in the right direction, or simply pack your picnic gear and go for a walk in the nearby meadows or woods.
