In Warmia, the Mill grows out of the Kośna River. Once powered by water, it conjured up flour from grains, now powered by human energy, it creates an extraordinary space for relaxation. When we came here, we immediately had a vision of sharing this place with others. Later, it took us a few good years to renovate the mill from 1880, until we were finally ready to open the doors, kitchen and terrace to visitors. The greatest joy gives us delight in the eyes of guests. Because it's hard not to be impressed here. We are still captivated. In the summer, which makes a forest appear in the garden: tomato, pea, lettuce. The fact that although the Internet signal is not so easy to catch, food is growing like crazy everywhere. We are moved by the view of the river, the island, the hipster hens that are around. The fact that we can serve you dinner on the terrace, and that it will be meatballs in dill sauce with green beans or zucchini and chanterelle lasagne. Or anything that will play in the soul of the cook-miller Andrzej.
We invite you to a place where life flows in a calm stream, inversely proportional to the pace of Kośna. Where guests not only play bridge, read in a hammock, compose limericks or go down the river. After forest bike trips, there is also time for bathing, napping, painting, and sauna. That's what we're all about. May you be happy and peaceful here.
We have five double rooms (including a large suite), each with its own bathroom (all include towels and a hairdryer), all overlooking the river, and all filled with books.
Four rooms have comfortable double beds, and one has two single beds. The SUITE (with a double bed, also known as a queen-size bed) can accommodate an extra bed. Each room is different, so it's worth checking out the photos to find the one you like best. We like them all!
MEALS are served either in the living room or, weather permitting, on the riverside terrace. You can also grab a bite to eat in the gazebo overlooking the river (with a comfortable large table, electric kettle, coffee maker, coffee and tea, and all the necessary utensils).
And we'll warn you right away – there's no TV, and the phones are spotty and very slow, but the internet is already working (we recently connected fiber optic). We do, however, recommend books and board games (we have quite a few).
We have a FINNISH SAUNA for our guests. An added bonus is that you can cool off by jumping straight into the river! We provide large towels, but you should wear pool shoes/flip-flops.
We do not accept guests for team-building trips or stag parties 😔
OUR MILL CUISINE isn't just about cooking. It's about SLOW cooking. Based on natural ingredients, avoiding preservatives, and using traditional, local produce. Our recipes capture the flavors and aromas of our childhood, but we're also open to all new ideas. And when a dish gains our appreciation, we serve it to our guests. We use a variety of herbs—some from our own herb garden, others imported from various corners of the world.
We constantly modify OUR RECIPES, adapting them to the seasons, using seasonal fruits and vegetables—many from our orchard and garden. We use our own preserves, often baking breads and cakes, making jams, juices, wine, and liqueurs. When we use the word "we," we mean miller Andrzej. Because he reigns supreme in our kitchen. He is passionate about inventing dishes and flavors, constantly experimenting, and this passion is shared by our guests. He believes in not adhering to rigid rules if cooking is to be enjoyable.
While we, like Milan Kundera, have our own dietary guidelines – we rigorously avoid all foods we don't like, we understand that allergies can occur. Minor restrictions are not a problem for us, but because we need to prepare appropriately, we need advance notice. Vegetarians are, of course, welcome, but we do not cook for vegans.
Dinners (served at 6:00 PM) – PLN 100 per person. Coffee and tea are available all day.
When asked what to have for dinner, there's only one answer – whatever the chef/miller is passionate about. But for example, guests have already eaten here:
🟢 sweet potato soup with pancake pasta;
🟢 cream of fennel soup with smoked salmon strips;
🟢 Cream of broccoli and zucchini with eggs Benedict;
🟢 Cream of tomato soup with carrots and celery and rice;
🟢 Lasagna with salmon and spinach;
🟢 Ravioloni stuffed with pumpkin puree and egg yolk (the yolk remains runny after cooking), drizzled with sage butter and sprinkled with Parmesan;
🟢 Entrecote on a roasted pepper salsa with zucchini and za'atar;
🟢 Baked eggplant with tomato sauce, feta cheese, and rice with cranberries;
🟢 Baked camembert with pumpkin seeds and chives, pan-fried zucchini with pumpkin seeds;
🟢 Zucchini pancakes with green beans and bulgur;
🟢 Meatballs in dill sauce with spelt, green beans and walnuts.
This is a place for occasional boredom. Because boredom has its benefits: it relieves stress, has a beneficial effect on creativity and reflection, and makes us want to act. Boredom can be avoided in many ways – soaking up nature on the riverside terrace, finding your own spot on the island and choosing your own views, in a hammock by the river, on the bridge, by the fireplace, in the sauna... In short, everyone can enjoy the taste, smell, and surroundings in a way that suits them best.
And if you've had enough of this boredom, you can:
🟩SWIM IN OUR RIVER (the current near the mill is so strong that you have to work hard not to wash the water into Gdańsk :)) or the nearby lake (we recently had guests swim in a river that was 6 degrees Celsius in December! Is it possible? Is it possible! 😊);
🟩HIKING IN THE FORESTS. We are surrounded by meadows, fields, and forests, including the extraordinary Napiwodzko-Ramucka Forest, a Natura 2000 site. Within its boundaries are small rivers and streams, numerous lakes, ponds, and peat bogs. A characteristic feature of the refuge is the large number of lakes, about 100 of which are over 1 hectare in size. And our dogs will gladly show us not only where the deer live, but also the way back;
🟩 🟩CYCLING. Patryki is the starting point of the 13.5 km blue cycling trail (Patryki-Purda-Gilawy). The routes around Lake Serwent (16 km), Kośno (22 km), and Kalwa (29 km) are beautiful. We've cycled around the mill and can help you choose the right route.
🟩RENT A KAYAK AND RIDE DOWN OUR RIVER. The Kośna River, which flows past us, originates in Lake Kośno, located within a nature reserve. Organized kayaking trips can last a few hours or a whole day; we'll provide the contact information.
🟩GO HORSE RIDING at the nearby, friendly stud farm "Pajtuński Młyn" (2 km from us). And after intense sports activities, relax in our SAUNA;
🟩PLAY: boules, board games, bridge, puzzles;
🟩SOAK in the Warmia Thermal Baths;
🟩SEE LIFE IN THE HEN COTTAGE on the island. And what's happening there is, oh my! There are love affairs, leadership battles, crowing competitions – who's the loudest, who's the most beautiful? Herding the chicks...;
🟩WRITE A LIMERIC, which we will later illustrate and post on INSTA and FB. We already have a rich collection of limericks created by our guests!
🟩And of course, READ, READ, READ! We have plenty of books for you here. There's no need to bring them with you. And if you don't finish one during your stay, you might even be able to take it with you. We're fans of freeing books.
Truth be told, nothing here is designed with children in mind 🤷♀️.
We only serve two meals to our guests: breakfast and a mill dinner (around 6:00 PM). We have stairs (not child-safe), a fireplace (although it's closed, but the glass must not be touched), and railings on the terrace, which are safe, but not for such young children. Finally, there's a river. Furthermore, the mill is a wooden building and lacks excellent soundproofing.
So, we only welcome families with small children when we don't have other guests, which is rather difficult for us. And because we want to give adults a break, those who, sleep-deprived, stressed, and drained of energy, come to us to do nothing and reset in an atmosphere of silence, blissful peace, and relaxation, we try not to mix children with adults.
Patryki's Mill is a wonderful place for a slow-paced retreat – leisurely contemplation of nature, complete tranquility, resetting, lazy walks, hours by the fireplace. Doing nothing!
But if you absolutely must get some work done, you'll find a comfortable spot in every room. Even on the terrace or porch. And if absolutely necessary, we provide a secret 😉 password to our Wi-Fi. However, we recommend putting cell phones and laptops aside for the duration of your stay.
