In Warmia, the Mill grows out of the Kośna River. Once powered by water, it conjured up flour from grains, now powered by human energy, it creates an extraordinary space for relaxation. When we came here, we immediately had a vision of sharing this place with others. Later, it took us a few good years to renovate the mill from 1880, until we were finally ready to open the doors, kitchen and terrace to visitors. The greatest joy gives us delight in the eyes of guests. Because it's hard not to be impressed here. We are still captivated. In the summer, which makes a forest appear in the garden: tomato, pea, lettuce. The fact that although the Internet signal is not so easy to catch, food is growing like crazy everywhere. We are moved by the view of the river, the island, the hipster hens that are around. The fact that we can serve you dinner on the terrace, and that it will be meatballs in dill sauce with green beans or zucchini and chanterelle lasagne. Or anything that will play in the soul of the cook-miller Andrzej.
We invite you to a place where life flows in a calm stream, inversely proportional to the pace of Kośna. Where guests not only play bridge, read in a hammock, compose limericks or go down the river. After forest bike trips, there is also time for bathing, napping, painting, and sauna. That's what we're all about. May you be happy and peaceful here.
We have 5 double rooms (including a large apartment), each with its own bathroom (all have towels and a dryer), all with a view of the river, all full of books. Four rooms have comfortable double beds, one has two single beds. An extra bed can be added to the apartment (with a double bed, the so-called queen size). Each room is different, so it is worth taking a look at the photos to choose the one you like the most. We like them all!
Meals are served either in the living room or, if the weather is nice, on the terrace by the river. You can also have a small snack in the gazebo open to the river (with a comfortable large table, electric kettle, drip coffee maker, coffee and tea).
And we warn you right away - we do not have TV. And the phones and the Internet work rarely and very slowly.
For our guests, we have a FINNISH SAUNA (PLN 100). Its additional advantage is that you can cool off by jumping straight into the river! We provide large towels, you just need to have shoes/flip-flops for the pool.
We do not accept guests for integration trips or stag parties 😔
Our mill cuisine is not just cooking. It is slow cuisine. Based on natural ingredients, avoiding preservatives, using traditional, local products. In our recipes, we use the flavors and smells of childhood, but we are also open to all new ideas. And when a dish gains our appreciation - we serve it to our guests. We use various herbs - some we take from our herbal garden, others we import from various corners of the world.
We constantly modify our recipes, adapt them to the seasons, using seasonal fruits and vegetables - many of them come from our orchard and garden. We use our own preserves prepared in advance, we often bake bread, cakes, make jams, juices, wine, liqueurs. When we use the word "we", we mean the miller Andrzej. Because he rules in our kitchen. He is passionate about inventing dishes and flavors, constant experimentation, which also infects our guests. He believes that you should not stick to rigid rules if cooking is to be a pleasure.
Although we have, like Milan Kundera, our own concept of diet - we rigorously avoid all dishes that we don't like, we understand that sometimes we are allergic to certain products. And minor restrictions are not a problem for us, but because we have to prepare for them appropriately, we need prior information. Vegetarians are of course welcome, but we do not undertake to cook for vegans.
Dinners (served around 6 p.m.) - PLN 80/person. Coffee and tea are available all day.
When asked what can be for dinner, there is only one answer - whatever the cook/miller likes. But for example, guests have already eaten with us: 🟢 sweet potato soup with pancake pasta; 🟢 cream of fennel with strips of smoked salmon; 🟢 cream of broccoli and zucchini, with eggs Benedict; 🟢 tomato-cream soup with carrot and celery with rice; 🟢 lasagna with salmon and spinach; 🟢 ravioloni stuffed with pumpkin mousse and egg yolk (the yolk remains liquid after cooking), topped with sage butter and sprinkled with parmesan; 🟢 entrecote on roasted pepper salsa with zucchini with za'atar; 🟢 baked eggplant with tomato sauce, feta cheese and rice with cranberries; 🟢 baked camembert with pumpkin seeds and chives, pan-fried zucchini with pumpkin seeds; 🟢 zucchini pancakes with green beans and bulgur; 🟢 meatballs in dill sauce with spelt with green beans and walnuts.
This is a place for occasional boredom. Because boredom has its advantages: it makes you feel less stressed, it has a beneficial effect on creativity, on reflection, it makes us want to act. You can get bored in many ways here - soak up nature on the terrace by the river, find your own place on the island and individually choose the views around you, in a hammock by the river, by the fireplace, in the sauna... In a word, everyone can enjoy the taste, smell and surroundings in the way that suits them best.
And if someone has had enough of this boredom, you can:
🟩Swim in our river (the current by the mill is so strong that you have to work hard not to flow with the water into Gdańsk :)) or a nearby lake;
🟩Wander through the forests. We are surrounded by meadows, fields, forests, and among them, the extraordinary Napiwodzko-Ramucka Forest, covered by the Natura 2000 Program. Within its area there are small rivers and streams, numerous lakes with no outlet, water holes and peat bogs. A characteristic feature of the refuge is the large number of lakes, of which about 100 have an area of over 1 ha. And our dogs will gladly show you not only where the roe deer live, but also the way back;
🟩Ride bikes (we have several for guests, including 2 electric ones). In Patryki there is the beginning of the blue bike trail with a length of 13.5 km (Patryki-Purda-Gilawy). The routes around the lakes Serwent (16 km), Kośno (22 km) and Kalwa (29 km) are beautiful. We cycled around the mill and will help you choose the right route;
🟩Rent a kayak and go down our river. The Kośna River flowing next to us starts in Lake Kośno, located in a nature reserve. Organized trips can last a few hours or all day, we will give you the contact details;
🟩Ride a horse at the nearby, friendly stud farm "Pajtuński Młyn" (2 km from us). And after intensive sports activities, relax in our sauna;
🟩Play boules, board games, bridge, do puzzles;
🟩Soak in the Warmian thermal baths;
🟩Take a peek at life in our henhouse on the island. And what happens there is that, hey! There are love affairs, fights for leadership, crowing competitions - who is louder, who is more beautiful. Leading the chicks...;
🟩And of course, read, read, read! We have plenty of books for you. You don't have to bring them with you.
What’s there for children?
To tell you the truth, nothing here is designed with children in mind. We serve our guests only two meals: breakfast and mill dinner (around 6 pm), there are stairs (not secured against small children), there is a fireplace (so-called closed, but the glass must not be touched), there are railings on the terrace which are safe, but not for such small children. Finally there is the river. Besides, the mill is a wooden building and does not have super sound insulation.
So we accept families with small children when we do not have other guests, and it is rather difficult to do so in high season. And because we want to give rest to adults who are sleep-deprived, stressed, drained of energy, come to us to do nothing and reset in an atmosphere of silence, blissful peace and relaxation, we try to "not mix" children with adults.
What’s there for employees?
Patryki's Mill is a wonderful place to relax in the spirit of slow - unhurried contemplation of nature, total silence, resetting, lazy walks, hours by the fireplace. For doing nothing!
But if someone absolutely needs to work, they will find a comfortable place to do so in every room. Also on the terrace or porch. It's worse with the Internet, because it works SLOW.
But in case of absolute necessity, we share the secret password for our WI-FI. However, we recommend that you put your mobile phones and laptops aside for the duration of your stay with us.
