Bieszczady must be accepted with the benefit of livestock. The range is poor, and we have internet when the weather allows it. The snow lies for a long time, but in autumn you can stumble over mushrooms. It's worth looking at your feet. In order not to step on a salamander, it's time to notice the Aesculapian snake or spot a fresh bear track. And this is where respect comes into play. When you walk on our rarely frequented routes: to Tyskowa - a non-existent Boyko village, or to the spring in Zwierzyń, keep the Bieszczady safety rules. Whistle or clap once in a while. Seriously. If the wind is blowing your way, wolves, lynxes or bears have no chance to notice and sense you. Let them know about you, and there will be no unpleasant meeting for both parties.
This is what it's like to live in a forest clearing in the Bieszczady Mountains. Wild, quiet, beautiful. When it's not freezing, we sit by the fire and admire how the fireflies shine with a short circuit in the asshole, how the stars show off with their glow and every now and then a bat flashes in front of our eyes. The eagle owl is also loud. In the summer we also swim on SUPs in Solina, we walk with sticks on the wilderness. In winter, we take out cross-country skis, read the history of Boykos and Lemkos, eat proziaki with a cheeky amount of butter. You can too. We invite you to Hoży Ryś. We will reside downstairs, you - in two cozy apartments upstairs. Other than that, no human neighbors in sight.
PS To reach our clearing, the most ordinary car is enough. Our 10-year-old Clio is also doing well.
Welcome to a hectare glade surrounded by forest. Our house is divided into two parts: downstairs we - hosts, and upstairs you - guests. On the first floor there are two independent apartments with separate entrances on both sides of the house.
Apartment 4+ will be comfortable for four, but it can easily accommodate 5 people. It consists of two bedrooms:
- Bedroom Hare (two single beds)
- Bedroom Lis (one double bed).
In the lounge area there is a fully equipped kitchenette, a large dining table, a comfortable large sofa bed and a TV with access to the SkyShowTime platform. The apartment includes a large bathroom with a shower.
Apartment 2 is perfect for two. It consists of a separate comfortable sleeping area with a Queen Size bed, a TV with access to the SkyShowTime platform and a large chest of drawers. In the lounge area there is a fully equipped kitchenette with a dining table for two and two armchairs. The apartment includes a bathroom with a large shower.
We focus on a good night's sleep - all beds in the bedrooms have soft high headboards and are on high legs. On the other hand, the infrared heating used is friendly to allergy sufferers, and also improves the immune system and affects thermal comfort, and also has an antibacterial effect.
In the yard, deckchairs, hammocks hung between trees, a large table by the grill and bonfire hut are waiting for you. You will have complete freedom here and no neighbors.
We give our guests a free hand, but we are available if you need us. We will not always have the opportunity to greet guests in person, but we are always available by phone.
Each apartment has a fully equipped kitchen with a fridge and a dining area, and there are plenty of restaurants in the area with regional dishes that are worth trying. You can find the full list of restaurants in our recommendations below.
On foot with sticks, a bicycle or SUP on Lake Solina or maybe a sailboat? In the Bieszczady Mountains you can really spread your wings!
As an instructor of the correct Nordic Walking technique, I strongly encourage everyone to march with sticks. Our guests can rent NW poles free of charge on site. Nordic Walking is a great way to practice active tourism at any age. I am happy to give lessons and tips on how to walk properly with NW poles.
With or without these poles you can go on deserted trails.
Straight from the cottage, go towards the unknown history of the Bieszczady Mountains, to the non-existent village of Bereźnica Niżna (1376-1947), after which only a cemetery remains (2 hours away) or to the miraculous spring in Zwierzyń, where gushing crystal clear water - according to history - has healing power . You can go even further to the dam in Myczkowce, to the heart of the Bieszczady Mountains. From our side, these trails are practically not used at all, so you will be able to meditate during your walks. However, I recommend whistling or clapping your hands once in a while. When it's so quiet and the wind is blowing your way, bears and wolves have the right not to hear you and not sense you. Meeting wild animals of this kind is nothing pleasant. That's why it's worth making a noise or stomping louder from time to time. For the safety of you and the inhabitants of the forest.
Cycling tourism in the Bieszczady Mountains is developed, and the Bieszczady bicycle routes are well marked. Plates in three colors - green, blue and black indicate the level of advancement of the route. You can choose between asphalt and slope roads. If you are not determined to spend all your free time on two wheels, you do not have to go with your own bike to the Bieszczady Mountains. There are numerous equipment rentals on site. The loop around Lake Solina is over 76 kilometers long and is a bit demanding, but cyclists with average experience should be able to handle it without any problems. This route allows you to see Lake Solina from various perspectives, and the intricate serpentines make it extremely diverse.
Bicycle route: Berezka - Polańczyk - Wołkowyja - Górzanka - Bereżnica Wyżna - Wola Matiaszowa - Berezka
How about a SUP-er chillout on a paddle board, i.e. Stand Up Paddle after Solina? We have SUP boards that we rent to guests - we recommend (launching) in the vicinity of Wyspa Energetyka, and precisely near the ferry, which ensures constant communication between the land and the island. If you've ever SUP-ed, for example, in Masuria, you must try floating on a board on a lake among the mountains. It's truly an extraordinary experience.
And if you prefer the wind in your sails, then you will start with a sailboat or an electric boat without a license from EkoMarina in Polańczyk. Yacht charter in Solina is quick and hassle-free. There you can also rent a water bike or kayak.
We also wholeheartedly recommend a visit to the Boyko Culture Museum in Myczków. It is worth finding out about the history of Bieszczady and its former inhabitants. What these areas looked like before World War II and who inhabited them and why many villages disappeared from these areas forever. In Hoży Ryś you will find many books about Bieszczady highlanders, and on the walls of the apartments there are photos of Boykos and Lemkos.
In autumn, mushrooms grow like after rain. In the clearing in front of the Hoże Lynx Cottage you will find kites, mushrooms, butterflies and sitars - you don't have to go far and look for it, just go out in front of the house and bend down to pick up the harvest.
And in winter - cross-country skiing. From Chata Hoży Ryś you will go straight to the forest for a ski walk. Cross-country skiing is a friendly and effective sport - it does not burden the joints or the spine, and moves the largest number of muscle groups and forces the correct body posture. The most important thing is willingness - cross-country skiing is for everyone - you can slide through the forest where your eyes will take you or you can use professionally prepared routes. We highly recommend Biegówki in the Bieszczady Mountains and the "Pod Żukowom" route in Ustjanowa Góra and Biegówki-Muczne.
What’s there for children?
The Bieszczady Hoże Lynx Cottage was not created for small children but for adults looking for respite. We do not have any attractions for children on site, but we have railings on the terrace, stairs to the apartments - which are safe, but not for small children. The cottage is a wooden building and, as it happens with wood, it does not have perfect sound insulation, therefore, wanting to maintain the concept of a quiet house where you can calmly regenerate after a time full of work, we dedicate a stay with us to older children and adults.
What’s there for employees?
We are located in a forest clearing in the Bieszczady Mountains, so the internet and coverage are sometimes bad. In a snowstorm, it sometimes disconnects us from the world. Usually the network is, but not shocking speed. However, we cannot guarantee you a constant connection speed.
