How do you imagine a time machine? Any of those sheets, screws and cables? Well, we're happy to change that idea of yours. For a more beautiful one, full of beautiful vaults, but also human destinies written in the chronicles of the walls. And on top of that, we'll add the smell of freshly baked bread. Or gingerbread medicinal spice. Take a good, deep breath now. Can you smell that? This intoxicating fragrance tickles the nose and the tongue in a delicious and pleasant way. can you hear Baker Jakub is tapping the crust of the bread to see if it is well baked. And how the crumb crunches under your teeth... Can you already see yourself carrying a pleasantly warm loaf of bread under your arm?
We have such a time machine. In the royal city, in Znojmo. We encountered a femme fatale in the heart of the city. A beauty that will take you on such a trip into history that even the screenwriters of Back to the Future couldn't dream up better. But allow us to introduce her to you…
Our Old Bakery. He has been writing his story since the end of the 13th century, probably since 1290, when brave knights and wise kings still walked the Czech land. So, for example, Charles IV himself. he walked around our house... In 1550, not only the dominant vaults were added, but the captivating aroma of bread and exotic gingerbread spices began to intertwine with people's stories for almost 350 years. And although the then owners had to give up the bakery later due to the Second World War, fate intervened and in 2015 it came into our hands together with the town house. It was pure love - nothing more, nothing less.
We became determined owners of the time machine.
One where you just walk through the door, touch the cool walls full of memories with your fingers and suddenly you are there. You will see a huge bakery oven with your own eyes and you can listen to the extraordinarily engaging, but also the mundane stories of Klement and Kateřina, Johann, Mathias. To the fate of the Wessel family from Mikulovice.
And now to the stories of our own... And yours...
In 2015, we bought a town house in a dilapidated condition and started its renovation. During that time, archaeological research was also carried out here. With the help of skilled craftsmen and our own hands, we transform and improve this space all the time. And now we can invite you to the Old Bakery.
