Three hundred. So many sunny days per year on average in Kalkan, in the province of Antalya, on the Mediterranean Sea. That's the climate we have. We also have turquoise water, a beach in the top ten of the most beautiful in the world and stunning cliffs. Add to this trekking routes, an area that can be explored from the perspective of two wheels, traces of history inscribed on the UNESCO list of monuments and flavors that can please the most demanding palates. Kalkan itself was once a fishing village. Today, it can charm with whitewashed houses whose rows go down to the sea, juicy colors of bougainvillea flowers and green hills where sheep graze. On one of them you will find a shelter ideal for a romantic trip or a family holiday.
Don't be surprised by the bleating in the morning, because one of the sheep herds is grazing nearby. Also, be prepared for a visit from a representative of the local cat gang. He'll drop by to see who's here. In addition, the one-story house with a sea view will provide you with privacy, and its 110-meter air-conditioned interior will allow you to experience a comfortable rest in two bedrooms with bathrooms and a spacious living room with a kitchenette. We focused on natural materials here - wood combined with stone, colors that are pleasant to the senses and ornaments created by Eda herself. You can indulge in sweet idleness during barbecue feasts and sitting in the pool with a jacuzzi on the terrace overlooking the sea. You will bring this view with you along with a package of memories, freckles on your nose and the bliss that touches a man returning from a successful holiday. Visit Turkey to experience this state for yourself.
Villa Mauricio is located on a hill in the old fishing town of Kalkan, famous for its whitewashed houses with rows down to the sea and colorful bougainvilleas everywhere. We are located on the Turkish Mediterranean coast, where the average of sunny days per year is 300.
The villa is one-story, we created it for couples and small families. We filled it with wood, joyful colors and stone. It is decorated with handicrafts by Eda, a local artist.
In the 110-meter interior you will find:
– 2 bedrooms (one bedroom with a double bed, the other bedroom with two single beds)
– living room (there is a fireplace, but it is used only for decoration - smoking is not allowed in it because the house is made of wood and it may cause a fire hazard) connected to a well-equipped kitchenette,
– two bathrooms (Important! Please, do not throw paper into the toilet! Pipes in Turkey are narrow and tend to clog, and we want to avoid unpleasant surprises :-),
– a terrace with a sitting area, a stone grill and a swimming pool with a jacuzzi function. The pool is 5.8m long, 3m wide and 140cm deep. Three cats often bask on the terrace, and sheep graze in front of the house. This is real Türkiye on the go!
We use solar panels to heat the water. There is a mosquito net in every window and air conditioning in the rooms.
You can reach the center by car in 3 minutes. Although we have to admit that we recommend walking the most. The hill can be steep, but we like to keep fit. If you do not have your own car, you can get around by cheap taxis.
We have neighbors, but mostly seasonal. The space of the terrace gives a lot of privacy and an unobstructed view of the sea.
At home, a fully equipped kitchenette and a space for grilling and sitting on the terrace await you. I strongly encourage you to celebrate meals on the covered terrace. The view of the sea whet your appetite and turns even the simplest meal into a real feast.
Don't feel like cooking? Head for Kalkan and Kaş, where good restaurants and pubs are really hard to count. And it is known that when you go on vacation, you also try new flavors in the package. To find the flavors of homemade, traditional Turkish cuisine, look for the inscription: “EV YEMEĞI / YEMEK”. This is a sign that you will eat manti in a given place. These Turkish fried dumplings are usually stuffed with lamb or beef, and in the vegetarian version - potatoes or pumpkin. They are served with yoghurt-garlic or tomato sauce, seasoned with chilli, powdered sumac fruit or dried mint. Pay attention to their appearance. It has been assumed that the smaller they are, the better, but opinions on this subject are often divided.
It is also worth paying attention to other Turkish delicacies. I recommend you in particular: mussels, kumpir, dolmas wrapped in grape leaves, coffee with cezwa and sweets (sometimes with completely amazing shapes and surprising flavors - perfect to take them with you as a holiday souvenir and give them to your friends).
In the nearby towns, local markets are held once a week - usually on Thursdays in Kalkan and Sundays in Kaş. Then farmers from the mountains come to the towns and you can buy organic products from them, e.g. goat cheese, fresh olive oil, almonds, etc. It is also worth taking a trip to the village of Bezirgan, which is famous for its agriculture.
After a quiet family or romantic getaway, it's here. Villa Mauricio is surrounded by green areas and hills. The idyllic atmosphere is introduced by sheep, which can be observed in the morning from the terrace. Life in the villa revolves around the terrace with a swimming pool with jacuzzi function and a sitting area with a stone grill. You can laze around in the pool, but please check its dimensions, because it is not an Olympic pool.
The city center is really close, you can get there in 15 minutes. Taxi takes 3 minutes.
The coastal region of Kalkan, where the villa is located, is called the Turkish Monte Carlo. Here is a small guide with recommendations on what to do and what to see here.
1. Patara - go there to see the ruins of the ancient Lycian city. There you can see the Roman gate, the necropolis, the bath complex, the foundations of the basilica, the city walls and the theater. According to some sources, Saint Nicholas was born here. Combine visiting the ruins with rest on a charming beach divided by the Xanthos River and famous for its dunes, which are one of the most beautiful natural phenomena in the Kalkan area. You can go canoeing on the river, horse riding is also organized along the beach. Importantly, the beach is sandy and child-friendly.
2. Xanthos was once the capital and largest city of ancient Lycia, even mentioned in Homer's Iliad. Today, a place where you can see the acropolis, theater, agora, Byzantine basilica, remains of the monastery and numerous tombs. Together with nearby Letoon, Xanthos is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the aforementioned Leetoon, the most important religious site of ancient Lycia with a sanctuary and an oracle, today there is an archaeological site.
2. Kaputaş Beach is one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world. Steep stairs with 187 steps lead to it, which are worth climbing to see the turquoise water, white pebbles and cliffs.
3. The ancient ruins of Myra (Mira) located about 1.5 km north of the buildings of the modern city of Demre. There is also the church of St. Nicholas, the ruins of the acropolis, the temple and the largest theater in Pamphylia (Lycia), which was able to accommodate about 8,000 people. The city is dominated by an impressive necropolis with tombs carved in rock slopes.
4. The Lycian Way trekking route, or the Lycian Way, is one of the most beautiful trekking routes in Turkey, leading through the Taurus Mountains and connecting the cities of Fethiye and Antalya. The entire length is almost 500 km and leads through picturesque landscapes, such as mountains and seaside cliffs. You can go on a day hike or a longer trip to discover the beauty of the Kalkan area.
5. Bezirgan village. 11 km from Kalkan, there is a small village hidden in the mountains. Time stopped several decades ago. People live in harmony with nature, as their ancestors once did, and their only source of livelihood is agriculture. Old cedar wood warehouses, built by the methods of the ancient Lycians, can still be found here.
6. The towns of Kalkan and Kaş with atmospheric cobbled streets.
7. Kekova - a sunken island like Turkish Atlantis - it is worth booking tickets and going on a boat trip.
8. Faralya village on the cliffs in the Valley of the Butterflies. The valley, located at the foot of Mount Babadag, lies between the high walls of the gorge - it is only accessible from the sea, it can be reached by cruise ship or water taxi from Oludeniz. From June to September, you can see various species of butterflies. By the way, it is also worth visiting the beach and seeing the waterfall located at the end of the valley.
9. Beaches
Kalkan beach: 2.3 km - the nearest beach
Kaputaş Plaji Beach: 8 km - one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world
Tiny Seyrekcakil Plaji: 15 km
Patara Beach: 15 km
10. If you feel like it, you can also try kayaking on the Patara River, mountain bike trips, diving or paragliding.
What’s there for children?
Although we do not have typical children's attractions on site, we are a destination often chosen by families with children. The proximity of the beach, the possibility of communing with the local nature and a fairly shallow swimming pool on the terrace mean that in Villa Mauricio you can often hear the patter of small feet.
What’s there for employees?
The internet is running fast, so if you have to work in these circumstances, go ahead. But consider whether it's worth it.
