Once there was a city here, today it is at most a settlement, and we still invite you to the countryside.
To a house in an old orchard on a former farm that once belonged to my grandparents. It's lucky that it's in Kryłów. There is not much in Kryłów, and yet everything you need to rest up to your toes, get a little tired - for example on a kayak or bike, and satisfy your curiosity about the fascinating culture of the borderland. Or maybe wake up?
Because did you know, for example, that there used to be a beautiful neo-gothic palace here? Today, only the gate remains, the only trace of the former court life. That the castle on the island in the oxbow lake of the Bug was tempted by Cossacks, Tatars and Swedes? You can take a bicycle trip to its ruins. Have you heard about the wooden churches of the borderland? They stretch, more or less forgotten, from Dłużniów to Hrebenne. They hide colorful polychromes, tower over the fields with their domes and encourage you to listen to their mysterious stories. Our small Bug River village is not for everyone. It is for those who are curious about the life that once lived here, for those with eyes and ears open to its history, and finally for those for whom going to the field sounds like the best vacation plan. The vicissitudes of fate much more rapid than the Bug have made this place a bit forgotten today, but thanks to this, you will also be able to forget in our Kryłów.
We renovated the grandparents' house in the former Roztocze farm and today we invite you here. On holidays like when you were a kid, like at your favorite grandma's, only grown-up, with doing what you like.
In the house there are:
– a bedroom with a modular bed (they can be combined into 1 double bed or 2 single beds),
- a living room with a sofa bed (for 2 adults or up to 3 children),
- bathroom,
- kitchen,
– and outside there is a terrace with garden furniture.
There is an old apple orchard around it (help yourself!), and there are also former outbuildings in the fenced area. They are not in use, you will be alone here and you can count on complete privacy. Go ahead and relax on the plot in a deckchair or hammock.
We'll just let you know that the house is not plastered yet. Soon it will gain a new face, but for now it is naked. We believe that this will not affect the quality of your rest.
We would go here just to be bored. Just like that, to the countryside, to the silence, to the fields and to the river. Take a break from the city, do nothing, it can get a bit tired in traffic. Here is what is the coolest in Kryłów on the Bug:
– reading books on the terrace or in the grass (if you forget to read, choose something from our library),
– evening bonfires in the orchard,
– kayaking on the Bug (there is a company in the area that can pick you up from home, take you to the place of the trip, and drive you back after the whole trip - contact us for details),
– bicycle trips – and you must know that the routes around are great and there are not many cars on them, but we will not recommend you well-known trails such as Green Velo – here it is best to just go into the unknown,
– exploring the area (maybe by bike? It's a perfect combination).
You can get to know the history of former Krylov through its monuments. Traces of old life have been preserved here and there, and the old town dates back to the 15th century.
– There are ruins of the Ostrorog Castle on the island, which was destroyed several times by Swedes and Cossacks,
– There is a neo-Gothic gate leading to the palace, which no longer exists, as well as a manor park from the beginning of the 19th century.
– There is a church from the 19th century with a surviving crucifix from the local burnt monastery/
– There are remains of the Jewish cemetery destroyed during the war.
The following trails run through Kryłów: the red Bug River tourist trail and the blue Gothic tourist trail.
The southern Lublin region is still undiscovered, hiding fascinating stories, forgotten Orthodox churches of the borderland, and even treasures from the Neolithic period. A few words about what is not worth missing here:
– The Trail and the Museum of Petrified Trees – did you know that Siedliska in Roztocze Wschodnie is one of the 4 places on earth where petrified trees are found in such large numbers? The weight of the heaviest of them is as much as 500 kg, and their geological age is ... 13-14 million years. Already in the 15th century, Jan Długosz wrote about petrified trees from the area.
- Enthusiasts of war history may be interested in the remains of the Molotov Line bunkers in the village of Mosty Małe.
– Do you remember the final scene from the movie "Cold War", taking place in the ruins of an Orthodox church? This is the church of St. Paraskew in Kniazie from the beginning of the 19th century. 19th century. A film crew cleaned it and put it in order. On the walls you can admire fragments of polychrome, and next to it there is a mysterious church cemetery.
– There are mysterious wooden Orthodox churches scattered around the borderland, which we would definitely visit if we were in your place. In the one in Hrebenne a beautiful colorful polychrome from the 17th/18th century has been preserved. The oldest wooden church in the Lublin region is the one in Korczmin. In the 1990s, it was dismantled piece by piece, restored and put back together. Other Orthodox churches on the trail are in Budynin, Chłopiatyn (this one has an unusual three-domed structure), Myców and Dłużniów.
– The Gotów Village in Masłomontaż is a fascinating place. Guests from Scandinavia came to the Hrubieszów Valley at the end of the 2nd century. In the late 1970s, archaeologists from Lublin began looking for their traces. Thousands of pieces of pottery, fragments of clothing items and a rather unusual cemetery were found in the settlement. The Goths dismembered their dead, and in one grave you could find, for example, 3 heads. Open-air museum The village of Goths repents the local exciting excavations. Until 2024, however, the village is closed to visitors, because the Center of Archaeological Heritage and Cultural Laboratory Historiae Gothorum is being built on the spot.
– In the former Hrubieszów, you will visit the presbytery where Bolesław Prus was born, or the Staszic Museum and you will see the Orthodox church, which is decorated with as many as 13 domes.
- Zamość with its beautiful Renaissance market square, the oldest pharmacy in Poland and the house of Marek Grechuta do not need to be introduced to you.
– In Chełm, look into the underground labyrinth of a medieval chalk mine,
Maybe you will come to us from Warsaw - then make a stop to visit the Poleski National Park and walk along the picturesque paths over the wetlands; in autumn you can admire its heaths, and in August you can watch cranes getting ready to fly.
What’s there for children?
Feel free to take the kids to us so that they can see how holidays in the countryside used to be spent. There's only one snag: you'll have to make time for them. For our part, we provide space to implement all holiday ideas, apples in the orchard and possibly an inflatable pool. You can take your children fishing on the Bug, kayaking, if they are not afraid of rowing, cycling or walking around the village. We also have a fireplace, so make evening bonfires a part of your plan.
What’s there for employees?
Work in the field takes on a new face with us. If you need to check your e-mails, join a call or enter a few numbers into excel, nothing will stand in your way, because the internet works flawlessly. However, we do not have any special workstation - you can spread out with a laptop on the sofa or at the kitchen table. So it's not a typical place for a work-location, but if it pinned you down, don't worry, because civilization has managed to reach us.
