Next to my family house there was a small "post-German" house made of red brick. As a child, I would steal apples from my neighbors orchard and earn extra money by picking mushrooms from them. I would sooner believe that there is Mormon gold in our lake (there is a local legend here) than that one day the house, orchard and old mushroom farm building will be mine. Well, with this gold, who knows... because I have been residing here for a short time. I left the first floor to myself, but the entire ground floor, terrace and both verandas are for you. For now, the house is patiently waiting for a general renovation, so for now it has undergone modernization, or rather old-fashionization. That is, the removal of suspended ceilings, the discovery of old breath on the floors. The old door said goodbye to its walnut color and got a new sage color. And in the kitchen, on the old uncovered tiles, we read "Eigener Herd ist Goldes wert". Which in free translation means that your own home is more valuable than gold. Equivalent to ours: Better tight but own. And this is the house to which I invite you.
IMPORTANT: The house and the surrounding area have a lot of advantages. Own beach, view of the lake, unlimited access to water equipment, large garden with an old orchard. He also has one BUT. It stands by a busy road connecting Mikołajki and Mrągowo. So it is not a place for people looking for remoteness and complete silence. Those who want to have intimacy and space, but like to be close to people and places where something is going on, will feel perfect here. They like to have a lake at their fingertips and delicious grapeshot within walking distance in their slippers. The place will also be appreciated by supporters of public transport, water sports enthusiasts (water equipment included in the price and on site), anglers and lovers of sweet laziness. You have everything right here.
In the Masurian village of Zełwęgi, on the road connecting Mikołajki and Mrągowo, there is a small, hundred-year-old brick house. Despite his age, he is doing great. The entire ground floor of the house is intended for you. The owner, Lechu, and his two cats: Rudy and Niunia, rule in the attic. Lechu tries to walk on his tiptoes, but cats are different.
The apartment, i.e. the ground floor of the house, has two rooms, a kitchen and a bathroom, plus a covered terrace. The rooms are interconnecting, in the first one there are two beds, in the second there is a double bed and a fold-out sofa. The entrance to the house is through the veranda, which also serves as a dining room. In front of it there is a small kitchen and behind it there is a bathroom with a bathtub.
Even though the house is located on the street, it has several advantages that more than compensate for it.
- Spectacular view of the lake and sunsets. We don't know if there is another one like this in Masuria.
- You have the entire place practically exclusively.
- A large, almost half-hectare yard with an old apple orchard and a garden. The yard is mostly fenced and protected from the road by greenery.
- Your own beach, on the other side of the road, with a sandy bottom, a pier and water equipment at your disposal. The beach is also available to guests of a small agritourism farm, owned by the host's parents who live nearby.
- Many will also appreciate that you can wear flip-flops to eat great kartacze and dumplings at the Zełwęgi Restaurant, because it is just around the corner. Or you can go by kayak or boat to the best fish restaurant in the area, Muranka, on the other side of the lake.
We do not prepare meals, but there are several places where you can eat great in the season. And if someone wants to go a bit further, there are many pubs operating all year round within a radius of several kilometers.
There is a kitchen in the house. It's not big but everything you need is there. The kitchen is very unusual, because it is transitive, behind the kitchen there is a bathroom. There is a small table in the kitchen, so on the veranda there is a place where you can comfortably eat a meal together. Unless someone prefers dinner in the orchard - why not, there you will also find a table and chairs.
If you come in summer, the entire fruit orchard is also at your disposal.
Number one is definitely its own beach, with a sandy shore and a pier. On the beach there are kayaks, a boat, a sailboat and a water bike. There is also a place for a bonfire. The beach is only 50m away, but you have to cross the road so we supervise the children.
Zełwęgi are located in the buffer zone of the Masurian Landscape Park - a stone's throw from the walking and cycling paths in the Piska Forest. If you have your own bicycles, there is enough space in the garage to store them safely.
Books, games, hammocks on site - if you want to rest stationary. You can also take a ferry to the Polish horse reserve in Popielno, visit the castle in Ryn, sail around Mikołajki on a solemaran, watch the battle for the Boyen Fortress in Giżycko or visit the Wolf's Lair.
What’s there for children?
For children there is half a hectare of grounds with lots of hiding places and an old orchard to play with. There is also, of course, its own beach across the road.
In Mikołajki there is a rope park and a large playground. And a bit further KUMAK, i.e. the Masurian Center for Biodiversity and Education, wild animal parks and other curiosities.
What’s there for employees?
For those who work, we have a good internet connection and a desk in the room. Unless someone prefers to work from a hammock or terrace?
