When I was new here and building a house, I never knew if I had phone coverage. So I started every conversation with “This is Żur, how can you hear me? Reception." I will have to disappoint those who suspected me of French influence - however, when it comes to the Borowia-Kociewo traditions, it will be quite the opposite. TuŻur is located in my father's hometown, from where he emigrated to Lower Silesia. After years of being tired of working in a corporation, and with the inspiration I gathered during my travels, I decided to return to the Kociewie village and create a place where I would like to travel. Returning to my maiden name helped me settle in: in Lower Silesia, only my family had it, but here I was suddenly my own. My agricultural area, as one of the first guests called tuŻur, is located in the Tuchola Forests, ethnographically at the southern end of Kociewie. It can also boast of being located in a Natura 2000 area and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. What does this mean in practice? That you will go directly from the houses to the stream flowing below, the clean air will blow away all worries from your heads, and the only sounds that will break the silence will be birds chirping and the sounds of the rutting season in September. If you prefer to commune with culture instead of nature, I will invite you to an open-air cinema or to my large library with several hundred titles from various genres. And for dinner I will serve fresh trout caught in a nearby pond.
I invite you to the houses by the stream rustling below. They are identical, separated by a privacy fence and large windows facing the water. They are located approximately 100 m from the tuŻur villa, where I and my guests live every day.
Each cottage has:
– living room with fireplace,
– kitchenette with a 4-person table,
– 2 double bedrooms on the first floor (one on the open mezzanine),
– terrace with garden furniture and swings.
The cottages can accommodate 6 people (fold-out sofa in the living room), but it will be most comfortable for a group of 4 people.
My 4 cats and a dog live in the garden, so if you are going on holiday with a pet, it is important that it gets along with other dogs.
tuŻur is located in a quiet corner of the Tucholskie Forest, outside the compact development of the village of Żur. The area has an area of 1.34 ha, and the houses themselves are located in its secluded part, located behind the villa (you will see it first from the gravel road).
On the plot you will find many recreational points: a beach with deckchairs, hammocks, a barbecue, garden sheds, and a bonfire place.
For those craving silence and intimacy: there is plenty of it in my area, but it is a place where families with children can come (although in practice this rarely happens). Important information for you may be the fact that the beach where children like to play is located near the houses.
If you want, you can buy breakfast from me. On the table you will find products that I buy regionally, from friendly hosts. There are home-made eggs and butter, you can find cottage cheese, farm cheese, and cold meats from small, local butchers. If you are a vegetarian, no problem, I will offer you a meal tailored to your preferences.
When it comes to dinner, I follow this rule: before you arrive, I will ask you what you like and what you cannot eat. However, what I am going to tell you will be a surprise. My guests really like this solution.
On the plot there is my ecological vegetable garden, from which I will provide you with vegetables and herbs in season. I also invite you to harvest it yourself and add it to your dishes if you cook on your own.
I can serve the purchased meals to you in the villa's dining room or bring them to the cottages in a basket.
The houses also have simple kitchenettes (they have a 2-burner hob, a dishwasher and a microwave) where you can prepare your own meals.
If you would like to buy local delicacies, I will be happy to provide you with contact details of friendly producers and hosts.
tuŻur is a place where you can get bored with complete impunity (although you don't have to). It is located in the Tuchola Forest, in the nature and landscape complex of the Sobińska Struga Valley (a tributary of the Wda River), which belongs to the Wda Landscape Park. It is also located in the Natura 2000 area and in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Those eager for contact with nature will find here fresh air, still wild forests and meadows, crystal clear rivers and lakes. The silence is broken only by bird songs and the sounds of the rutting ground on site.
What you can do on site and in the area:
- enjoy the charms of the habitat: hammocks and deckchairs in green corners, garden shelters, barbecue, fireplace, volleyball and badminton court,
- reading and films: I love cinema and literature, so on site you will find a large library and record collection with several hundred titles from different genres; DVD players are available in rooms and cottages along with selected films,
- once a week in the season I organize a cinema under the stars,
- getting to know the region, even before you set off in the field: at your disposal will be tourist guides and maps, studies on the region, its history, culture, cuisine and language, as well as atlases of mushrooms and birds,
- bathing: each of the cottages has its own access to the stream that flows below, and the nearest, wild bathing area with a gentle access to the water is located 1500 m from tuŻury; There are more clean, pleasant bathing areas in the area – I will gladly give you some tips,
– kayaking: Wda and Zalew Żurski are great places to try kayaking for the first time, and even more advanced rowers will enjoy kayaking along their wild, sometimes empty trails even in the season,
in winter I will gladly organize a sleigh ride for you with the help of a friendly stud farm from nearby Gródek,
– hiking and cycling trips,
– fishing,
– winter swimming,
– minor gardening: if you feel like it, at tuŻur you can try your hand at being a gardener – I know that not everyone has had such an opportunity, and gardening can be very relaxing; I will gladly share my secrets on growing tasty vegetables and herbs.
I also invite you to use the SPA located among the greenery, with a sauna and a hot tub. In the season, hedonistic pleasures are included in the price of your stay, and outside of it they are additionally payable from Monday to Friday. The cost is PLN 150 for the first heating of the sauna and tub and PLN 75 for each additional hour.
What’s there for children?
The kids especially like the beach near the houses, which they sometimes treat as a large sandbox. When they get tired of building sandcastles, there will be a playground among the trees waiting for them. There are also badminton rackets and a beach volleyball court on site.
What’s there for employees?
Fast internet allows you to work on site. You can sit with your laptop at the dining room table or on the terrace, where the reception is also very good.
