The history of blacksmiths in my family dates back to the mid-19th century. All the local farmers, craftsmen and Bieszczady artists used my grandfather's services. It was his father, great-grandfather Daniel, who moved the family forge to the place to which I invite you. Needless to say, great-great-grandfather Józef was also a blacksmith? As a little boy, I often watched my grandfather Janek at work, and eventually I started helping him and acquiring skills. As an adult, I decided to continue the family tradition. Today, in my family's historic forge, you can see products and old blacksmith tools and learn the secrets of the trade. I date its creation to 1888 - this date is engraved on the bellows, which must have been present when it was opened, because without it there would be no fire necessary for the operation of the forge. It is open to everyone who is curious about disappearing crafts and wants to try blacksmithing themselves. Some time ago, a house was added to the forge and the Blacksmith's Village was created. Families with children love to visit us because it is impossible to get bored here. You can fish in our pond, go on a trip to the forest through the stream, and at any time visit my ancestors' workshop with me and learn blacksmithing. In the summer we organize a summer cinema, bubbles bubble in the tub all year round, and the telescope is waiting for observations of the night sky. Take both big and small ones and come for a holiday full of adventures. You haven't experienced anything like this before.
In Kowala Village there is a house for 10 people with the following layout:
ground floor
– living room with a sofa bed, TV and fireplace,
– the living room connects to the dining room and kitchenette,
– large bathroom with shower,
– open space with a grill and smokehouse (separate entrance, perfect for summer feasts),
– behind the smokehouse there is a laundry and toilet area,
floor
– 1 bedroom for 4 people (1 double bed and 2 single beds that can be joined),
– 2 identical bedrooms at an angle with double beds,
– bathroom with bathtub,
– terrace overlooking the forest.
There is also a historic forge on our premises. If you feel like it, I will invite you to visit it and tell stories about the blacksmith's profession. When the house is not rented, the forge is visited by school trips and tourists, but it will be closed to visitors during your stay (unless you decide otherwise).
The plot is separated from the forest by a stream (it's worth taking Wellington boots for the kids!), and there is also a small swimming pond, 1.6 m deep.
All pets are welcome, but please note that the plot is not fenced.
Cooking and grilling will be in your hands. The nearest larger stores are 6 km away, so it's best to stock up there. We also have a small shop in the village 500 m from the house, but it is only open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. In autumn, don't forget your mushroom baskets!
Our area will provide you with many attractions and entertainment, and there are many groups who spend their entire stay there. In the Blacksmith's Village:
– you can enjoy a large green area,
– I will invite you for a tour of the forge and tell you about the blacksmith's profession and the history of my family, and for those interested I will organize blacksmithing workshops (for an additional fee),
– a hot tub is waiting for you (cost for the entire stay: PLN 300, I will light it for you during the first session and show you how to do it yourself in the future),
– you can use the smokehouse open to the garden and the grill,
– there is a fishing rod, and you can fish in the pond (or splash, if you don't mind the company of fish),
– there is also a telescope for night observations of stars in the sky,
– we can organize a summer cinema:
∙ sometimes we organize them for the entire village - then admission is ticketed and you do not pay for participation, but you must agree to organize an event in the garden during your stay (version for people-loving people),
∙ we can prepare a summer cinema just for you (there is even popcorn!) - then the cost of such a project is PLN 800,
– we have bicycles for you included in the price of your stay (3 for adults and 2 for children).
Moreover, it is impossible to get bored in the Sanocko-Turczańskie Mountains (i.e. those just before the Bieszczady Mountains):
– you can put on wellies and go on a trip up the stream flowing right next to our plot – such a trip to the source takes about 2-3 hours,
– the Good Soldier Švejk Bicycle Trail runs nearby,
– you have 15 minutes. to Wańkowa Ski, where there is a ski slope and the longest cable railway in the Bieszczady Mountains, there is also a tubing track for sliding on pontoons and the longest zip line in Poland,
– there are famous serpentines in the Słonne Mountains (one of the local mountain ranges), which you can drive by car or climb to Przysłop along the red trail, e.g. from Rakowa.
The closest routes to us are right under our noses, i.e. those of the Słonne Mountains. The name of the range comes from the brine springs found here, from which salt has been obtained for centuries. Nowadays, no one does this anymore, but you can walk along the trails that cross the area, unmarked paths that stretch for kilometers, drink water from springs and avoid bear tracks. Apart from forest inhabitants such as wolves, lynxes and eagles, it is difficult to encounter other wanderers, which is becoming less and less common in Biesy.
What’s there for children?
The kids love visiting us. For them, Kowala's village is a land full of adventures! Not only will I invite them to a historic forge and tell them about the secrets of a blacksmith's work. The area itself also provides plenty of surprises. The truth is, however, that adventurous little guests like to spend their time splashing in the stream. Take wellies and plenty of clothes for them.
What’s there for employees?
There is no problem with remote work. We have fiber optic and the largest bedroom has a desk with a soothing view of the neighboring tree and hill.
