They say that the historic church in Bahmaty was set on fire by the devil himself. Today, by the reservoir on the Orlanka River, there stands an openwork, blue chapel designed by a local sculptor. Legends also show that our village was founded by the Krywicz tribe, who came here from northern Lithuania. A village was born from their camp, because natural circumstances prompted them to stay here longer. The southern reaches of the Białowieża Forest were always boiling. Podlasie is a cultural melting pot where the stories of Poles, Belarusians and Ukrainians living on the border intertwine. You can hear the Ukrainian language on the streets of Dubicze Cerkiewne, and you can taste Belarusian delicacies in Mr. Jan's pub, just a stone's throw away. It serves hryczuny, haluszki and biedruszka, as well as shchi, a sweet cabbage soup. Our lazy summer resort is located on the Bachmaty forest reservoir on the edge of the Białowieża Forest, so the borderland nature will surround you on all sides. To learn about the fascinating culture of the eastern borders, you can use books from our library and a guide prepared by us. We have Podlasie in our hearts and minds: my wife devoted her scientific work to the material culture of our region, and the wall hangings she wove decorate the interior of a house full of Podlasie accents.

Our house is located in a small summer estate on the Bachmaty reservoir, just outside the village of Dubicze Cerkiewne. We are located on the edge of the Białowieża Forest. It's a wild and quiet place. There are other houses in the summer resort, but it is absolutely quiet here.

The cottage is intimate. We have 5 beds, but it will be most comfortable for two or four people.

The house has:
– bedroom with a double bed,
– open living room with kitchenette and table (can be unfolded),
– bathroom with shower,
– 3 single beds on the mezzanine,
– terrace with garden furniture.

In our immediate vicinity there is a roadside pub called U Jana, which is highly appreciated by our guests. Mr. Jan serves dishes with peculiar names and Belarusian origins, such as vareniki, potato, wereszczak and opienik soup.

Come and get bored in Podlasie, because it's worth it. Life here is still like in the old days - there are small, non-industrialized villages around. There are no large farms, only wooden cottages surrounded by fences, where time has stopped. Dubicze Cerkiewne is one of the last Podlasie villages with such a multicultural character, where Belarusians and Ukrainians live alongside Poles. The southwestern reaches of the Białowieża Forest have always been an area where cultures and nationalities meet.

Our house is located in a summer estate near the Bachmaty reservoir:
– there is a swimming pool here (not always open, depending on the water level),
– water equipment rental,
- playground.
On the first Saturday after July 12, Kupala Night takes place at the reservoir. You can take part in a fair combined with a show of folk handicrafts (basket-making, pottery, weaving, blacksmithing, etc.) and listen to music by performers from Podlasie, Ukraine and Belarus.

On site, you will find a guide prepared by us to the attractions of the immediate area. If you are curious about the culture, traditions and nature of Podlasie, you will be enchanted by it. The following are waiting for you:
– Podlasie Orthodox Church Trail (you will see the first of the blue Orthodox churches in Dubicze)
– Dubicze Orthodox Church with the Chamber of Culture and Tradition, where
– Hajnówka with the Holy Trinity Cathedral (one of the most interesting examples of contemporary religious architecture),
– Topało – a settlement on a beautiful forest lake,
– Białowieża with its fabulous railway stations, the Białowieża Forest Museum and the bison show reserve,
– Holy Mountain Grabarka – the most important place for Orthodox believers in Poland.

There are fantastic cycling routes around. We are located right next to the Green Velo Podlasie trail. If you like pedaling, don't miss the opportunity to admire Podlasie on two wheels.

At the Bachmaty Reservoir you will find a nice playground for children. In summer you can use the swimming pool. The area is also perfect for trips on two wheels, so if you can, take bikes for the whole family
