In a picturesque village situated between Aarhus and Aalborg, by one of the deepest lakes in Denmark, you will find HUS 42. Here in Glenstrup, there are sacred springs, Viking pilgrimage sites, one of the oldest churches in Denmark, and runestones. The village boasts a rich history and a friendly local community. The house itself also has an intriguing past. Built in 1931, it served as the residence of a farmer working for a large landowner whose estate is nearby. When I encountered it, the house had been empty for 10 years. It was neglected and in desperate need of attention. Its transformation took five years, during which I came to understand the stories embedded in its walls and envision their future. This was more than just a renovation.

HUS 42 is a blend of historical elements and contemporary design, filled with natural materials and colours. It is a space where it is easy to connect with the nature outside, slow down, and reflect. The surrounding countryside is magnificent. On a walk towards the lake, you may encounter cows, sheep, deer, hares, and pheasants. You will also meet friendly Danes. Nearby, there is a fjord and a beautiful sandy beach. I invite you to embrace relaxation, find peace, and escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Discover the perfect combination of comfort and style in our charming Glenstrup lakeside flat. The flat's layout has been carefully designed to ensure a peaceful stay, offering two bedrooms and three double beds:

Ground floor: Private bedroom with a comfortable double bed.
Mezzanine: A cosy bright space with two double beds.

In addition, a spacious communal living area is available, which includes a living room, dining table and open kitchen - the perfect place to socialise and relax. Outside, you will find a terrace where you can relax and soak up the beautiful natural surroundings.

For fresh Danish bread and famous local baked goods, head to the nearby town of Hobro, just a five-minute drive away. There you will find everything you could possibly need during your stay.

Our flat offers a fully equipped indoor kitchen and an outdoor kitchen - ideal for preparing meals outdoors without worrying about smells, for example when cooking fish from Glenstrup Lake.

When my dad Peter is on site - a passionate angler who knows all the secrets of the lake - you can count on a fishy feast. He will be happy to prepare for you fish soup cooked over an open fire or crispy fillets of perch, zander or pike.
It is also possible to take part in a fishing trip with Peter on the lake in his boat. This is an unforgettable experience that will allow you to discover the delights of fishing and enjoy fresh fish straight from the lake.

1. Glenstrup Church (140 m)
- dating back to the 12th century, is a remarkable example of Romanesque architecture and home to well-preserved medieval frescoes. This historic site, surrounded by sacred springs believed to have healing properties, offers a unique cultural experience in a serene countryside setting. Additionally, the church occasionally hosts cultural events, adding a vibrant touch to its rich historical ambiance.

2. Thore Kilde (350 m)
- named after Saint Thøger, who was a missionary in the area during the 11th century, this spring is considered holy. According to legend, Saint Thøger blessed the spring, and it has been a site of pilgrimage ever since. People visit the spring seeking its reputed healing powers.

3. Glenstrup Lake (Glenstrup Sø; 550 m)
- is one of the largest lakes in Jutland and offers beautiful natural scenery. It’s perfect for fishing, swimming, kayaking, or simply enjoying a peaceful walk around its shores. The lake is also home to a variety of bird species, making it an excellent spot for birdwatching. It also has a historical significance, with legends suggesting that the lake and its surroundings were sacred to the local population. The lake’s pure water was often used in rituals and believed to have healing properties.

4. St. Brøndum Church (8 km)
- this medieval church is known for its beautiful frescoes and historical significance. It’s a peaceful place to visit and admire the artistry and architecture of the period.

5. Exploring Genbrug (Second-Hand Shops; 11-24 km)
Visiting Genbrug shops is a wonderful way to engage with Danish culture while also supporting sustainability and local charitable organizations. These second-hand shops offer a treasure trove of unique finds, from vintage clothing to eclectic home decor.

6. Fyrkat Viking Fortress (14 km)
- located near Hobro, Fyrkat is an impressive Viking ring fortress dating back to around 980 AD. The site includes a reconstructed Viking longhouse and a museum that provides insights into the life and culture of the Vikings. It’s a fascinating destination for history enthusiasts.

7. Mariager Abbey (19 km)
- is a former Bridgettine monastery founded in 1446. The ruins and the abbey church are worth a visit, providing a glimpse into the religious and architectural history of the region. Visitors can explore the serene surroundings and appreciate the historical significance of the site.

8. Mariager Salt Centre (19 km)
An engaging museum dedicated to the history and production of salt. The center features interactive exhibits about the importance of salt throughout history, as well as a simulated salt mine and a saltwater pool for a unique floating experience.

9. Mariager Fjord (20 km)
- known as the most beautiful fjord in Denmark. You can enjoy boat trips, hiking, and cycling along its scenic shores. The town of Mariager itself is charming, with cobblestone streets, half-timbered houses, and the Mariager Salt Centre, where you can learn about the history and production of salt.

10. Hadsund Deer Park (23 km)
- a beautiful nature reserve where you can walk among deer and enjoy the tranquility of the forest. It’s a lovely place for a picnic or a leisurely stroll.

11. Rold Skov Forest (25 km)
- is one of the largest forests in Denmark and is perfect for outdoor activities like hiking, mountain biking, and horse riding. The forest is also home to several natural springs and the famous Rebild National Park, which celebrates Danish-American heritage.

12. Rebild Bakker National Park (27 km)
- a beautiful hilly area offering several trails with stunning views. It is part of Denmark's larger Rold Skov forest area and provides a range of hiking experiences through heathlands and forested hills.

13. Øster Hurup Beach (40 km)
- a beautiful sandy beach perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and beach activities. The beach offers shallow waters, making it ideal for families with children.

14. Skagen - Where the Seas Meet (130 km)
Skagen is the northernmost point of Denmark where the North Sea and the Baltic Sea meet. This unique natural phenomenon, where the waves from two seas collide, is a must-see. Skagen also offers charming streets, art galleries, and the Skagen Museum showcasing works by the famous Skagen Painters.

HUS 42 is a space with a unique layout that may challenge younger guests.

The flat features a mezzanine with glass railings, a steep staircase, lots of ceramics and sharp edges, such as an old cooker. For this reason, we have set the minimum safe age of guests at 8 years. Babies in this space require constant attention and supervision. Of course, we are open to any questions or concerns. However, the surroundings of the house are conducive to outdoor play and communing with nature. It is safe and quiet - only a few cars a day pass through the village. There is no shortage of attractions for children in the area, so the little ones can enjoy nature and spend time actively.
