Through bikes to the heart - that's how I ended up in the Kłodzko Valley. One day I turned onto a side road that climbed higher and higher through the forest, until suddenly it emerged from behind the trees: Poręba. It has only 200 inhabitants, but almost 700 years of history. The issue of determining the age of the overgrown ruin by the road was much more difficult. However, in the end, the lack of a birth certificate did not stop me from taking down the "for sale" sign. After a (really) thorough renovation, Poręba 15 is now gaining another life as an enclave for adults to actively chill. Because in the Bystrzyckie Mountains you will find everything that athletes like the most: singletrack bike trails, scenic trails, cross-country skiing routes and sports equipment rentals. And a jacuzzi on the terrace by the house.
Come to Poręba, even if - or maybe especially? - you have never heard of it.
In a renovated house in the heart of the Bystrzyckie Mountains. The house has 3 bedrooms, including one on the mezzanine, and 2 bathrooms - one on each floor. We took care of a few pleasures - there is a living room with a fireplace and a projector for watching movies, as well as a terrace with a jacuzzi. A stream flows at the bottom of the plot, in autumn you can hear the rutting ground, and there is something to do here all year round.
We renovated the house largely ourselves, using the help of a local team at the end. We do not know when exactly the building was built, but we tried to preserve its Sudeten spirit as much as possible :)
We rent the house entirely and exclusively, which means that we leave the cooking to you. However, we will give you the tastiest addresses in the area (and there are quite a few):
For the best, fresh bread for breakfast, it is worth going to Bystrzyca to the Urbaniak bakery. Here you will also find a large selection of cakes, artisan ice cream and yeast buns for mountain trips. Nearby is the Owoce z Pasją organic farm, where you can order jams, syrups and fresh fruit (e.g. strawberries, blueberries, raspberries) by phone.
You can buy the best Sudeten honeys from Wojtek and Kasia in Jaśminowe Wzgórze (Wilkanów).
And where to go for dinner? If you like Asian atmosphere, a visit to Edzia i Mars is a must. They run two places: Zakręt w Kulturze in Bystrzyca Kłodzka and Zakręt street food & art in Nowa Bystrzyca. In the former, it is a good idea to book a table in advance on weekends.
A cult place on the map of the Bystrzyckie Mountains is the PTTK Jagodna shelter, famous for its huge portions, sweet pancakes with blueberries and a casual atmosphere. Just be aware that the shelter is located at the entrance to the most popular trails, so in the season, lunchtimes are quite dense and the waiting time (especially for the famous pancakes - long).
For delicious Czech cuisine, go to Neratov. There is Neratovska Hospoda, where you can eat, for example, delicious goulash with dumplings and drink Czech beer from a local brewery. You can pay by card. A few kilometers away in Orlické Záhorie, visit the Kyhanka confectionery for delicious desserts.
The Bystrzyckie Mountains may not be the most famous mountains in Poland, but that doesn't mean they don't have reasons to be amazed :) You will discover empty trails, wild Orlica, scenic meadows and a great community here. Here are some of our ideas for getting to know the Bystrzyckie Mountains (and beyond):
- go for a walk around Poniatów and Gniewoszów with the Jedlnik viewpoint; there are hiking trails, unmarked paths and the so-called Goering road here
- The Kłodzko Valley is full of singletracks - you can use your own bikes or rent electric bikes at the Jagodna shelter
- go to Czerniec, where there is an observation tower; preferably with a stop at Solna Jama and the ruins of Szczerba Castle (a truly Scottish atmosphere!)
- the most popular trail in the Bystrzyckie is the one that leads from the Jagodna PTTK Shelter to the Jagodna peak with an observation tower; the trail is wide and undemanding (although quite crowded on sunny weekends); after the hike, stop for pancakes with blueberries in the shelter or for street food in the open air “Na Zakręcie”
- it is worth crossing the border to taste Czech cuisine and admire traditional Czech-Sudeten architecture; for example, in Neratov, apart from a very good inn, you will find a church with a glass roof, and in Orlické Zahorie beautiful houses and a great confectionery Kyhanka
- if you feel like a full-day trip, go to the other side of the Basin to the area of Śnieżnik Massif; the most interesting places are Międzygórze with its “Tyrolean” architecture and the picturesquely lit Wilczki waterfall, the Bear Cave and the road to the scenic Śnieżnik
In winter, we often have snow here. There are several cross-country skiing trails around Jagodna (and the rental is at the Jagodna shelter), and for ski tourers we recommend the Śnieżnik Massif. For classic downhill skiing and snowboarding, go to Zieleniec, Czarna Góra or to the lifts in Orlické Hory.
At Jaśminowe Wzgórze in Wilkanów, Kasia runs western-style horse riding and yoga classes.
The days of yoga classes change depending on the season, you can catch the current schedule here: https://www.instagram.com/przez_chwile/
