There are places that leave an indelible imprint on souls. In my soul, the Tatras became the place that ignited passion and love. It is here, at an altitude exceeding 2000 meters, that I feel like a fish in water... or like a mountain chamois in its natural habitat. And so I fulfilled two dreams. One about an apartment in tiny Tatranská Polianka, a health resort under the smallest mountains in the world and with a bonus view of Gerlachovský štít. The other dream about the fact that one day I want to be a hostess and connect people with good energy and love for nature through my place.
And so, when we, as Popoluška, came across a nut in the form of an apartment in a national cultural monument - Villa Mariana, by the prominent architect Gedeon Majunke, the decision was made. We were lucky that the apartment kept its art nouveau secrets under the layers of an unfortunate previous renovation. And you can discover them, together with the Tatra ones, here. Come to relax and heal your soul from the busy world in the High Tatras. Here, it is peaceful, quiet, without crowds of tourists. You can walk, but you won't be far from hiking trails, cross-country trails, bike trails, or skiing. The Tatra railway stop is only 50 meters away from us. So if you are looking for a base for trips in the Tatras or a place to meditate in nature, we are waiting for you. Feel free to come in pairs, fours or sixes. We will be happy to welcome you.
VILLA MARIANA
You will sleep in an apartment located in the attic of a beautiful Art Nouveau building designed by architect Gedeon Majunke. He is often referred to as the architect of the High Tatras and created at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. And when you walk around the Spiš and Tatra villages, there is no way you won't come across one of his works. He adapted his architecture to the environment and used materials resistant to climatic influences for his buildings. And what else did he suggest? For example, the hunting lodge of Prince Hohenlohe, the wooden church of St. Anna, Téry's cottage and, among other things, Mariana's villa in Tatranská Polianka, where we will host you.
Attic apartment in a villa from 1896 has its own special atmosphere that we immediately fell in love with. Just like the Tatras... And who knows if the soul of the building, the view of the Gerlachovský štít, or the Tatranská dolina and Kráľova hola is to blame. Anyway, in addition to rough construction work up to the perimeter walls, we did the renovation of the apartment ourselves, with our own hands. We decided to give it a return to the period when this building was created - to the times of art nouveau and art deco... and we supplemented it with my original paintings of the Tatras.
The APARTMENT hides:
- southern bedroom (Art Nouveau) - furnished with regard to the time when Villa Mariana was created. With a view of the Tatra basin and Kráľova hola (double bed and sofa bed)
- northern bedroom - in Art Deco style with a view of the High Tatras and Gerlachovský štít (double bed and sofa bed with mattresses for 2 people)
- kitchen with sofa and dining table
- bathroom with bathtub
- toilet - you can plan further excursions thanks to the Tatras map during a moment of contemplation :)
- a small utility room with a washing machine and dryer
- a balcony (12 m2) with a separate entrance right next to the apartment, where you can sew, practice yoga, meditate, read or enjoy the view of the mountains
The apartment has a separate side entrance that leads to the attic.
We have neighbors, but who knows, maybe you'll run into them in the same way as a bear ;)
Free private parking is available.
The spacious kitchen can accommodate all guests, and those who like company while cooking will not be deprived of anything. We have left you with basic food supplies and you will also have a small minibar available where you can choose something to eat at a reasonable price.
As a big lover of tea, I have prepared a huge supply of tea for you - loose green, black, tea bags and supplemented them with herbal mixtures collected by me - everyone will find something for themselves here.
So I'm really leaving you a free field of action in this...
I'll just add that Tatranská Polianka is ideal if you like the mountain environment, but you don't need crowds of tourists...
And for those active, it can be an excellent starting point for mountain hikes or other activities.
I'll just add:
- we have a balcony with a view of the mountains
- in the summer, discover a path to a small stream
- 50 m from us is the Tatranská železnice stop, from where you can get wherever you need to go
- a small pond with benches near the former bathhouse
- hiking trails are located in close proximity to the villa
- cross-country tracks and cycle paths are located directly in front of the villa
- above Villa Mariana, you will again join the hiking trail and, in winter, the cross-country track
- you will also find a place to store skis and cross-country skis, which will definitely be added in winter :)
What’s there for children?
Here we joined forces with my daughter Julka and chose what will please the smallest guests. Paraphrasing Julka's words, she will be very happy when other children enjoy the toys :)
If you don't have enough, there is a children's playground nearby. In the vicinity you will also find the Poliankovo Gallery with a cafe.
About 20 min. the walk will take you to Hotel Hubert with the largest children's playground in the Tatras and a petting zoo.
