The dictionary of urban slang says that “barn” means embarrassment or massacre. In our case, barn is the height of Roztocze luxury, a hermitage, a hole for a couple, a hideout. Barn was the most neglected element of our habitat, hence the perverse ambition to make it the most interesting and beautiful. Through the large windows, the green glow of nature penetrates the interior, above the large sofa hangs film posters, everywhere you look there are books. Inside, music flows from a gramophone, outside there are birds. Apart from that, silence and the smell of pears. We do not have a TV, the reception is capricious, but within walking distance we have a swimming pool, a salt graduation tower, a ski slope, many bike trails and the already cult restaurant MAMA Jacnia. Prepare yourself for a pierogi-compote diet.
I invite you to a private forest, outside the village. To the buffer zone of Roztocze National Park, to swing in a hammock. For coffee under a pear tree, film festivals, kayaking trips. Idyllic walks to roadside chapels with colorful ribbons, for timelessness.
45 m2 of bright space with a patterned floor awaits you. The apartment is one open space plus a bathroom with a shower.
There is a cozy seclusion for a couple:
- a double bed,
- a large sofa,
- a table with chairs,
- access to the garden,
- a bathroom with a shower.
There is no TV in the apartment, but there are books, magazines, a record player, a CD player and records. In the large garden there are hammocks, deckchairs, a fireplace, a grill, a private forest. The barn is located away from the village. In the yard there is a wooden summer house, which we or our guests sometimes annex.
The apartment has a kitchenette, although we recommend the following scenario: stay in Ulęgałki, breakfast of champions at Mama Jacnia. This is already a cult restaurant that serves heavenly meals. We can eat their pierogi with fruit for every meal of the day. Before visiting the restaurant, please check if it is open, because it is seasonal.
The Ulęgałka yard is a private forest, coffee under a pear tree, hammocks, deckchairs, silence, solitude. There is no signal and internet, no TV, but music flows from a gramophone, and birdsong from the garden.
Just a few steps from Ulęgałka, you can find yourself on the beach at the Jacynka Reservoir, on the ski slope in Jacnia, in the forest, or in a salt graduation tower. A village further away, in Hutki you can start a kayaking trip on the Wieprz River, and in Kaczórki you can taste Roztocze trout.
We recommend a walk through the forest to the Belfont Forest Lake, i.e. forest lakes, be sure to take something for mosquitoes, because they bite like wild ones. You can also drive nearby to the Debry Nature Reserve. Wonderful gorges, diverse vegetation, you can also meet animals such as deer. We recommend downloading a guide with a description of the path. It is available on the website of the Zwierzyniec Forest District. We recommend leaving your car at the car park at Zagroda Guciów (PLN 5 per hour) because there is no parking at the path.
In Zwierzyniec:
- A must-see in the summer are kayaking.
- The Church on the Water.
- The Plenipotent Palace.
- The Zwierzyniec Brewery - in May, June and September you can visit the brewery from Friday to Sunday. In July and August, you can visit it from Wednesday to Sunday.
- The Summer Film Academy. This is a cultural feast for film buffs and those who like good films.
In July, Gorajec hosts one of the most interesting folk festivals in Europe - Folkowisko. It is 52 km from Jacnia.
The Cieszanów Rock Festival is held in Cieszanów (about an hour's drive).
The Echo Ponds - a complex of four ponds located in the Roztocze National Park, is an ideal place for swimming.
- Bondyrz (8 km), or the village of 2 mills. In the inconspicuous village of Bondyrz on the Wieprz River, as many as 2 mills have been preserved, as if straight from Iwaszkiewicz's stories. One, together with the entire mill farmstead, has been restored and looks sensational, especially its undershot wheel, an absolute rarity today. It is a pity that right next to it, a stone building of a village bath from 1928 is decaying - perhaps an even greater rarity.
Hell on the Stone Hill - according to legend, the devil decided to bet one of the local peasants that he would build hell on the hill in one night. If he managed to do so, then the peasant would give him his soul. Hell was almost completed, but when the devil was carrying the last boulder, the rooster crowed, announcing the dawn. The rocks left on the hill are therefore the remains of the devil's building.
Within 22 km:
- The Polish Horse Refuge and its breeding in the stables of the Florianka farm.
Within 31 km:
- The Polish Language Capital Festival in Szczebrzeszyn - an event where both the author and the reader soak their feet in the same river. We highly recommend going to this literary festival.
What does Roztocze have in common with the Flintstones? Maybe it's that Fred Flintstone worked in a quarry, of which we have quite a lot in Roztocze. Although there are few outliers here, the numerous quarries are definitely worth visiting. Józefów, Krasnobród, Nowiny and Bruśno are leading here.
