Our house is the highest inhabited house in Lanckorona and it gives us a great view. We think it's the best we've seen. It does not matter if there's sun or rain - when it is cloudless, you can see the farthest ranges of mountains, when the autumn fog comes, we have a "Lake Constance" below, and during a storm, the rumble of lightning carries over the valleys. Well, it's a Bajka (fairytale)...
Drop by when you have a moment. Guests are welcomed by a house with the wooden soul of a 92-year-old man who tells the best stories. We gave him a new life, and he more than paid us back for it. We gave him ascetic interiors and our paintings, and he made the music from black records sound beautifully in a wooden interior. We still live in the new-old harmony - it is a bit Scandinavian, straightforward, without excess, but with great respect for old wood.
Have a coffee on an unusual terrace. Listen to the sounds of good music, but also nature, talk to us about art - that's what we know, pet our dogs (Petunia and Mariana). This is our Bajka in a cosy "cultural centre with an overnight stay". Keep in mind that Willa Bajka is not friendly to people with a fear of heights and space. There is a good amount of both here.
Tucked away among the trees, with a beautiful garden, is the historic wooden villa "Bajka", built in 1926 by General Edward Schubert.
Due to the virus, until further notice, we are renting only 2 rooms with bathrooms and due to the fact that we are such an intimate facility, we prefer double stays because we do not have single rooms.
At your disposal are:
- two double rooms with attached bathrooms,
- one triple room also with a private bathroom,
- a well-equipped kitchenette but without a stove, a dining room with a record player and many albums about art (but not only, because there is also something for lovers of good literature) and an amazing view of Babia Góra. Each room has access to a balcony.
Minimalist rooms with paintings by us have a table and chairs, bedside tables and additional shelves for luggage. We are against TV sets, that's why you won't find them here. However, Wi-Fi works like crazy.
The "Solarium" double room is the former room of General Schubert. The name of the room is related to the title of the painting, which is an element of the decor. The room with a double bed has access to the terrace on the south side.
The double room "Art. Spożyczne" is the former general's room. Its current name is also related to the title of the work hanging in the interior. The room has two single beds and access to the terrace on the south side.
3-person room "Barrel", the name of which comes from the semi-circular shape of the ceiling, which was the result of a low roof constructed in the 1920s and 1930s. Currently, the room may no longer resemble the title "barrel", but it is the most spacious. The room has one double bed and one single bed. The exit to a separate balcony is from the south-east.
Please take into account that our dogs Petunia and Marian, although they are not allowed to enter the guest area, are equal members of the household and accompany us all the time. This may be a problem for people who do not love pets or would like to take their pets with them, because unfortunately ours do not tolerate competition in their area.
Please remember that due to the high location of the building, it is not suitable for people with disabilities and health problems.
We love celebrating meals and spending time at the table eating and talking. That's why we've created a kitchenette for our guests, where you can prepare your own breakfast or dinner if you're not taking advantage of our offer. Please note, however, that the kitchenette doesn't have a stove, but you can use one in our kitchen. There's also a dining room surrounded by windows offering a beautiful view of the mountains and picturesque rooftops of the town, which you can admire while dining.
Breakfast can be ordered and served with the best of our favorites—100% vegetarian. This is available for an additional 40 PLN per person.
If you'd like to prepare your own breakfast or dinner, we recommend the family-run Siwek bakery, where you can buy warm, fragrant bread and other specialties after 7:00 PM.
If you'd like to eat outside, we have a few suggestions for you in the area:
1. On Zamkowa Street, you'll find Arka Cafe, which is like something straight out of an Italian movie. Enjoy delicious coffee, amazing sweets, and delicious pierogi. Picturesque vines wind here, perfect for a cool lemonade, cheesecake, and raspberry cloud. In winter, we recommend the fireplace.
2. A little lower down, but still nearby, are the Verona restaurant with excellent pizza and the Modrzewiówka Hotel, with a restaurant for more discerning guests.
3. In the market square itself and nearby, there are two other atmospheric cafes: Cafe Pensjonat and Chillout na Targowa, where you can also grab a bite to eat in addition to coffee.
4. A short distance from the market square, our friends run Lancburger, which serves truly delicious burgers, salads, and homemade cakes. Furthermore, the town's shops are well-stocked and open late into the evening.
If boredom is sitting on the terrace with a glass of wine and admiring the beautiful view or playing games and talking all night long, then yes - it will be incredibly boring. You will spend a lot of time in the living room, where you eat meals with other guests, but also listen to music on the record player, read books and drink coffee.
- Evenings are the best time to relax on the terrace. There are only attractions here: fireflies in June, the starry sky, Billie Holiday, Alibabki and... Mozart.
- Recently, you can play pétanque in our garden. It's true that there is no gravel, only green grass, but it's still good. Tested, it's fun.
- In the vicinity of Lanckorona you can wander around the small streets, or go on trips to the mountains or to nearby towns or even Krakow, which is just a stone's throw away. Right above our villa you can see the ruins of the Lanckorona castle, freshly renovated, built during the times of Casimir the Great, and 10 km from Lanckorona there is a picturesque Świnna Poręba reservoir, where you can swim or go for a picnic.
- On the streets of Lanckorona you can often meet students of art schools who try their hand at outdoor activities, and the outdoor activities are truly extraordinary.
- It is also worth visiting the ceramics studio of Asia and Piotr Piaskowski and the Gallery of Ewa and Jacek Budzowski - the owners of Arka.
- Lanckorona is distinguished by its sloping market square, which is the heart of the city. Around it there are beautiful, old, wooden arcaded houses, sometimes whitewashed, sometimes painted in shades of blue. It's worth seeing, taking photos and sending to the world.
- Lanckorona, although it is only a small town, has a lot going on here: in June there is the Midsummer Fair, in July there is something for motoring fans - the Rally of Historic Vehicles and guitar and poetry workshops, in August the Lanckorona Romantic Summer Festival, and in winter, in December, the Festival of Angels.
- Lanckorona, although located on the top of a mountain, is also a mecca for cyclists. There is a place to ride both electric and analog cars. We are fans of the former ourselves and we are glad that a rental shop has just opened near us in Bugaj.
We know from experience that slightly older children feel best with us. Our wooden house does not isolate sounds like a concrete wall, and yet everyone wants to rest in silence. Other guests also praise their conscious neighbors, which is why we invite adults and kids from around 10 for a nice holiday.
Remember also that our dogs are equal residents, so kids with allergies and those completely not accepting dogs may not rest with us.
We have fast internet and a very private space, so it's quiet and peaceful to work. Our home is also a great and proven place for creative work.
