The park area is rich in vast, open spaces with lots of lakes and forests interspersed with beautiful rivers, meadows, fields and swamps. The jaw drop and undying delight cause its unique postglacial landscape. The remains of the great ice are the deepest in Poland and lowland Europe - Lake Hańcza, 108.5 m deep, and the rivers Szeszupa and Czarna Hańcza.
What, apart from captivating nature, is worth seeing in the Landscape Park?
- The defensive settlement of the Jotvingians on Zamkowa Góra near Szurpiły.
- Molenna in Wodziki, a temple of the Old Believers from the end of the 19th century. Be sure to go there!
- Chałupa Klejmonta, the oldest residential building in the park from 1880, located in the village of Hańcza. Interesting wooden houses and stone farm buildings from the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century have been preserved here.
- The wooden chapel in Smolniki is a monument from the end of the 18th century, in the old cemetery in Smolniki.
- Stara Hańcza, where you will find the ruins of the manor house, of which today only cellars remain, was probably built in the 18th century. You will also find a manor park with two ponds there.
- The church in Jeleniewo is a beautiful, wooden church from the 19th century, located at the market square in Jeleniewo, with rococo furnishings that come from the no longer existing church in Magdalenów near Wigry.
It is also worth climbing the Castle Hill, which is considered to be one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the Suwałki Region.
What’s there for children?
Children have their errands here. They have to build a hut from branches, look for frogs in calamus, pour water from one bucket to another, build sand cakes and soak their feet in the lake. Sometimes they even jump on the back of an inflatable crocodile and float on the waves of the Crooked. The rain does not bother them at all and regardless of the weather conditions, they prowl on the playground, play pirates in a boat set on the beach, catch the wind in their sails and collect raindrops in their hands. After such an eventful day, they fall asleep in the blink of an eye, to experience their holiday adventure with redoubled strength the next day.
