Is this firewood? Am I going to sell it? Or will I build a new one in its place? No one gave this house any chance. The pile of rotten boards – leaning so far to the right that a neighbor was straightening it with a tractor – terrified both my family and the experts. "Tear it down, I advise you," was the only phrase I'd heard about the house in the old orchard in Kostomłoty. But I persisted. Saving this ruin, with no future but a past, took years. However, when I found the old carpenter and his apprentices – the only ones who didn't think it was impossible, I knew I would succeed.

This is probably the only house of its kind in Poland. A house on the border. At the crossroads of countries, cultures, and nationalities. A house between old and new, combining the simplicity of the Polish countryside and folk art with contemporary design. Mat Kubaj, an artist with a unique sensitivity, is responsible for its design. His insights allowed me to retell the story of Polish folklore and the value of craftsmanship. I won't stop at the house – a gallery promoting modern art will be established in the barn next door. The house in Kostomłoty, a witness to a history so ancient I couldn't even have dreamed of – the remains of a 3,000-year-old settlement were discovered in the nearby forest – boldly looks to the future. And finally, it invites you to its doors for a stay that will become an experience.

The house is located in the historic Eastern Borderlands, in the picturesque surroundings of an over 100-year-old orchard. The rustle of fragrant flower meadows and the sounds of bird concerts invite you to truly unwind. Our guests often postpone their departure until the last minute, and even longer.

We have preserved the building in a modern setting, whose restoration was designed by architect Paulina Ada Kalińska. The interior is full of tradition, craftsmanship, and folk art, combined with contemporary design. The project's identity is a tribute to memory; from the old millstones set as abstract sculptures, through striped textiles, unique jugs from Łysa Góra, and porcelain from Mirostowice, to the magical folk spider recreated by the House of Folk Art. Mat Kubaj is responsible for the interior design.

We owe our name to the extraordinary spectacle that takes our breath away every day. From the living room, which opens onto the orchard, and even from the herbal bath, you can admire the great red sun until dusk on the horizon.

The ground floor is the main living space – an open-plan living room with a stunning view. At the heart of the house is a large table for work, and especially for communal meals, and just beyond it lies the kitchen.
To the right, through an ancient door, we enter the bathroom (shower and bathtub with a view!). Stairs lead to the mezzanine, where two large double beds are located. The third sleeping space is a fold-out sofa downstairs – providing comfortable accommodation for two people.

Our guests can use the fully equipped kitchen, which includes all necessary utensils.

They can also enjoy coffee and herbal infusions from the local Cieleśnica factory. Upon request, our neighbor provides eggs from his own hens, as well as seasonal vegetables.

The house sits amidst a century-old orchard, with views stretching to the horizon.

Every moment of silence is filled with a blissful hum. It's the crickets in a blooming meadow, the sweet concerts of birds. We recommend listening to their diversity. Besides, have you ever danced to a natural concert? Well, it's time to try it.

– Mielnik – a town on a high escarpment above the Bug River with an observation tower, castle ruins, a chalk mine, and some of the most beautiful panoramas of Podlasie.

A brief moment is all it takes to spot wild animals from the terrace or even the living room couch. The somersaults of deer and a flock of storks are unforgettable sights for both our children and us adults.
