Enchanted. Like many, we fell in love with Italy. But common sense clearly decided against that vacation, because just two months later, under circumstances we don't quite remember now, we became owners of CasaSulMuro. Our family acquired a 500-year-old stone house in the somewhat sleepy, medieval borgo of Pescaglia. Since then, we've devoted every free moment to designing, visiting antique shops, and spending hours chatting with Italian craftsmen. We've also dedicated our time restoring fixtures and furniture, determined to preserve everything authentic about the house: the terracotta floors, the massive chestnut beams, the staircase carved out by centuries of age, the centuries-old, still-functioning forno, and even the antique terracotta "washing machine." We feel like we're just guests in this place's history. We don't want to force it—we want to write our own chapter.

Casa SulMuro is probably the oldest house in the village. It stands on the former defensive wall and partly within it. According to legend, it was the residence of the captain of the castle garrison. For a former defensive fortress, the house is a veritable labyrinth. However, instead of medieval cells, you'll find four comfortable bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a large living room with a fireplace. At the end, beyond the wall, a surprise awaits you. A completely private garden with a swimming pool, veranda, and panoramic views of the slopes of Monte Piglione. Words can't describe this view in person. So we'll be blunt: come. Not like you're visiting a luxury hotel, but like you're visiting good friends. Come to enjoy life, savor Italian architecture, and savor the delicacies of Tuscan cuisine. Come if you love art, history, mountains, and the sea. Dolce Far Niente has never been so inspiring.

The house has three levels.
The lowest level (ground floor) houses a separate apartment connected to the rest of the house by a winding staircase. This level houses a bedroom with a bathroom, a small living room with a fresco (former chapel) and a home theater, and an additional room for board games, work, etc.

Level 0 is the common area – with a large living room, dining room, kitchen, and a powder room. This level also features a glass-enclosed entrance area with access to the garden. Originally, this was a passageway – simply an external courtyard – between the residential building and the former stables for farm animals. Today, this space has been incorporated into the residential area.

The first floor houses two comfortable double bedrooms, a large bathroom with a bathtub and shower, and a separate apartment consisting of two bedrooms (one of which is a walk-through room) and a walk-in closet.

A small (250 m²) garden with a magnificent view of the valley and mountains is hidden behind a medieval wall, offering the luxury of complete privacy. The village is very quiet and peaceful, inhabited by native Italian families and many expats from around the world: the Netherlands, Austria, England, Australia, and Canada.

Pescaglia has just a few streets, one small shop, and a truly Italian bar with 1960s decor. There are no crowds or tourist bustle here. There's peace, sun, privacy, and the daily rhythm marked by the church bell. There are also steep stone steps and no access to the house itself, as the streets were built for mules. Parking is approximately 150 meters from the house.

NOTE: The village is situated on a slope – the access from the parking lots is quite steep, so we recommend avoiding CasaSulMuro for families with small children and those with mobility issues.

Guests have access to a comfortable, well-equipped kitchen, completely modernized in 2025. There's a small shop in the village where you can stock up on all your culinary essentials, including fresh, homemade Tuscan salt-free bread. For larger purchases, the well-stocked Esselunga supermarket is about a 20-minute drive away. You'll find many local pizzerias, trattorias, and restaurants in the area.

You will be there – because that's why you're going there, after all. ;) The sun loungers and pool are perfect for La Dolce Far Niente. And if you absolutely must do something, you can, for example, read (we have plenty of books about Tuscany at home – including some by our friends). But there are also quite a few books on other topics. 

Those eager for exercise and spectacular views stretching all the way to the Versilian Coast can hike one of the trails to Monte Matanna or Monte Piglione. 

For those who aren't convinced by Far Niente, there are countless opportunities to visit amazing places within a 0.5–1.5 hour drive:
– For architecture and art lovers: Florence, Lucca, Pisa, Pietrasanta, San Gimignano, Peccioli, Volterra, Barga. – For those who love the sea: Viareggio, Lido di Camaiore, our beloved Tellaro, Lerici – and, of course, the heavenly Cinque Terre.
– For snobs ;): Forde dei Marmi.
– For miners :): Carrara marble mines.
– For jazz lovers: Barga Jezz Festival.
– For the sentimental: Lucca Summer Festival or Teatro del Silenzio in Lajatico, organized by Andrea Bocelli.

In summer, every village, town, and city hosts sagras – rural festivals dedicated to zucchini, pizza, or octopus…
When bored and re-energized, you can return to CasaSulMuro and enjoy the sun loungers and pool again.

A 75-inch TV and home theater system are also available to guests.

Board games, a swimming pool (always under adult supervision!), animals from Monte Matanna – including wild horses, roe deer, geese, mouflons, donkeys, dogs, cats, chickens, and cows. And, of course, Pinocchio Park, located in his home village of Collodi.

You can't work here – it's forbidden. The internet is good, but it's only for entertainment. ;)
