On the green map of Kashubia, two red cottages stand. You pull off the road, pass pine trees, and first the signal disappears, then the asphalt. The loudest sound here is often a woodpecker.

For years, Natalia sent trucks across Poland until she stopped in the forest near Kościerzyna. She built two mobile homes that no longer go anywhere. She greets guests like old friends, and the firewood for the evening is already ready. The second cottage is so far away that you forget about the neighbors. You can bring your dog, and since the cottages are year-round, you can experience both a lazy summer and the quiet after the first snowfall.

Lake Sudomie is right at your fingertips; few people rush there. In the morning, the forest stands in the large window. In the afternoon, a hammock catches you between the pine trees, and in the evening, you heat up the hot tub and watch the darkness grow over the trees. Here, no one asks what you've been doing all day.

You sleep upstairs. The mezzanine has two double bedrooms, so it's comfortable for two or four. Under the sloping ceiling, near the window, you'll fall asleep faster than you can check if the signal has returned. Downstairs, there's a living room with a fold-out sofa and a bathroom with a shower. In the morning, you go downstairs for coffee, and the first thing you see through the large window are pine trees.

The cottage has a fully equipped kitchen, so you can make breakfast your own: induction hob, oven, dishwasher, refrigerator, and coffee maker are all at your fingertips. It's worth bringing bread, eggs, and other essentials with you, as you'll need to drive to the store. In the evening, the best food is what you make over a campfire.

If you don't feel like cooking, in Łubiana itself, you can eat at Lubiany Dom Celebrytów (Lubiany House of Celebrities), where they praise their Kashubian pork loin and allow dogs. In Kościerzyna, you can choose from home-cooked meals at Gospoda or pierogi, including Kashubian ones, at the local Pierogarnia.

By day, Lake Sudomie: swimming, fishing, and kayaking on the river. Hiking and biking trails surround the area, and in autumn, the forest bursts with mushrooms. When the urge to explore strikes, the open-air museum in Wdzydze is about a 15-minute drive away, and the observation tower on Wieżyca puts you on the highest peak in Kashubia. In Kościerzyna, there's a railway museum with real steam locomotives.

But let's face it, the bare minimum is often the best option: a hot tub, a campfire, a hammock, and the book you've been carrying with you for three trips.

It's quiet and intimate here, more like a relaxing getaway for two than a holiday with an activity guide, but the forest quickly makes up for the lack of a playground for children. There's plenty of room to run around, poles for hunting, and a bonfire for sausages at dusk. In summer, Lake Sudomie is a great place for swimming, and in autumn, mushroom picking is more engaging for kids than adults. Sometimes a local cat will wander onto the terrace, and then the rest of the attractions fade away.

For a longer trip, the open-air museum in Wdzydze, with its authentic Kashubian cottages, and the railway museum in Kościerzyna, where you can climb aboard old steam locomotives, are the most comfortable. The cottage is small, so it's best suited for a family with one or two children.

There's Wi-Fi and a dedicated work area, so you can work peacefully in your home office. Outside, the forest replaces other people's screens, and the silence allows you to focus naturally. Instead of lunch at your desk, you make coffee on the terrace, and after the last call, all that's left to do is light the hot tub.
