At a glance
Why hyżenka? It was once a Boyko cottage, or hyża, that housed the residents, farm animals, winter supplies, and a stove without a chimney. After our long and loving renovation, the wood still creaks, the window sometimes jams, and the open door lets in village flies, but the old cottage has been transformed into a modern habitat. It's taking on a whole new life: people come here to relax, enjoy the silence, and fall in love with the Bieszczady Mountains. Families feel at home here, for whom we've prepared plenty of entertainment for long summer afternoons and winter evenings. We're a favorite among those who prefer to maintain a safe distance from the crowded and noisy Solina. Bereżnica Wyżna lies picturesquely on a stream at the foot of Markowska Hill, but it's only a 10-minute drive to Solina Reservoir. You don't have to tick off every Bieszczady attraction; it's nice to simply sit in the garden and listen to the storks, who bring us good luck every spring. However, we've also prepared our own personal guide, which will lead you down paths you might not have heard of before. We hope that thanks to this, you'll experience the Bieszczady Mountains a little bit our way, but above all, your own.

We live in Warsaw permanently.
We've always been mountain hikers, and conquering the Crown of Polish Mountains was the impetus for visiting Tarnica – the highest peak in the Bieszczady Mountains. At first, we only came to the Bieszczady Mountains for weekends, then for holidays, and then we bought a homestead with a century-old Boyko cottage. The cottage was supposed to be demolished: the floor was rotten, the attic was straw... But we love challenges and decided to save this house. We read extensively in groups about traditional construction, learning the secrets of reconstructing foundations, using waxes, and letting wood breathe... We have no formal training in these fields. Over the past five years, transforming this house has become our passion.
